Some interesting comments from David Warner on TMS just now reacting to the news that his lifetime leadership ban could be overturned by Cricket Australia:

"I've just got to accept whatever decision is handed down. There is talk that I can have a chat with the integrity unit. If I do have the chance I'll sit down and chew the fat a little bit and see where we are at.

"If it is overturned then we will go from there. But I am a leader in this team no matter what. Whether you have a C or a VC next to your name you have to put your best foot forward and lead by example."

On whether he wants the captaincy: "If it ever presented itself it would be a privilege. But for me it is about focusing on the next game and what I have to do for the team."

Ben: It’s all about momentum when it comes to these T20 World Cups rather than strength in team line-ups - I think all the teams have the quality to win it if they get on a roll. Teams like West Indies and Pakistan thrive on tournament momentum regardless of rankings.

Australian journalist Mel Farrell is at the Manuka Oval and says the rain is as heavy as it has been all day.

"There is El Nina weather affect in Australia at the moment," she told BT Sport. "I have a fear the player of the World Cup may be DLS as there is every chance there will be a lot of wet weather on the east coast.

"There is flooding all over New South Wales and Victoria. We have been lucky in Canberra that is has stayed quite dry.

"On the west coast in Perth and Adelaide we will probably be all right all the way through but I think there will be a lot of radar checking over the next month. We are getting a little bit of in Canberra but it is a lot worse in all the areas surrounding Canberra at the moment."

As the rain continues to fall here is some other news for you: Cricket Australia has paved the way for David Warner's lifetime leadership ban being lifted after requesting an amendment to their integrity code.

Warner was banned from elite cricket for 12 months and from leadership positions for life by the governing body in 2018 for his part in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.

But after Aaron Finch stepped down as Australia's one-day international captain, there have been calls for Warner to fill the vacancy.

The opening batter previously deputised as ODI captain in 2016 and 2017 and was vice-captain of the Test team when he was banned.

It's absolutely hammering down. Noah might be around the corner building an ark.

There's still plenty of umbrellas up at the Manuka Oval. The radar suggests it is only a passing shower BUT it could get quite heavy. Fingers crossed it moves on soon and we can resume without losing any overs.

James Roche: Robin Johnson, it's catches that win matches I think you'll find and England are exceptional in the field! We're going all the way!

  9. rain stops play

Unfortunately the rain is heavy enough for the umpires to stop play. The groundstaff speed onto field to cover up the square as the players walk off and the crowd take cover.

It doesn't look too heavy though so fingers crossed we will be back out soon enough.

It looks like it's falling heavier because the floodlights illuminate every droplet.

    It's raining.

After that four at the start of the over England then switch to patient accumulation, with three singles and a two completing a very productive powerplay for the tourists.

With the exception of a half-volley struck by Dawid Malan, I don't think there's a ball that has come out of the middle of the bat.

    Shot!

It's not perfectly timed from Jos Buttler but has more than enough on it to fizz back over the bowler's head and take a couple of bounces before going over the boundary rope.

  15. Eng 38-1published at 5 overs

    In the air...but safe!

Dawid Malan doesn't quite time a pull shot but it flies over mid-on and lands safely, allowing England to run two.

Starc/Cummins/Hazelwood is a fearsome trio to face in a T20 powerplay, but these two England batters are playing them nicely (so far).

That was a bad ball, a half-tracker that was put away quite easily.

  17. Eng 34-1published at 4.2 overs

Mitchell Starc is back for the fifth over and Jos Buttler cuts a wide one past point. He doesn't quite time it but the ball still has just enough on this quick outfield to reach the boundary rope.

Another brilliant shot from Dawid Malan as he clubs a short Josh Hazlewood delivery over mid-wicket for another four.

The early loss of Alex Hales has not stalled England's momentum at all.

  19. Eng 22-1published at 3.1 overs

Jos Buttler joins the party! He leans into a full Josh Hazlewood delivery and lofts the ball over the covers and away for four.
