With David Warner having such a poor Ashes series last year, and despite him being Australia's top scorer in last year's World Cup, the failures this summer add to the notion in Australia that he might not be suited to playing in England on future tours. That's why this innings was so important for him.

That is an absolute jaffa! It was quicker and gripped in the surface. Warner played the wrong shot for the wrong delivery.

    Joe Root's golden arm!

Eoin Morgan and England were just trying to steal an over or two so they had a bit more flexibility from their five main bowlers but wow, that is an absolutely beauty from Joe Root!

It pitches on middle stump and a sharp bit of spin sees it cannon into off-stump. A beauty.

Warner's tour ends with just 94 runs in five games.

I like that England have gone for Joe Root. Why not?

With the powerplay over, Joe Root is coming into the attack.

Eoin Morgan and England are going to try and steal an over or two here.

Chris Painter: Can I pick lots of little moments that add up to one BIG statement of the summer? It has to be Stuart Broad. Dropped, recalled, relentless.

  7. Aus 47-2published at 10 overs

Mark Wood is going to have to be clever on this pitch, I think. If he just bowls at his natural 90+mph he's probably going to go the distance.

He certainly does there, as David Warner clips him beautifully off his hip for four.

That's a beauty in response as Wood angles one across a tentative prod from Warner.

Here's how Marcus Stoinis was dismissed by Chris Woakes.

Think of your own adjectives for it but I'm sure of all of you will have woeful pretty high up the list.

Mark Wood, who took 3-54 on Friday in the first ODI before being rested for the second game, replaces Jofra Archer.

Jof will want a change of ends I imagine.

  10. Aus 40-2published at 9 overs

    Target 303

The required run-rate at the start of the innings was 6.06, it's already creeped up to 6.41.

It's certainly nothing to alarm Australia, especially with the modern-day player, but Tom Curran's 10 overs only cost 28 on Sunday. If he bowls anywhere near as tightly as that, the rate will rise and quickly.

This is where Australia would want Steve Smith to slowly knock it around and build the run-rate. They have got a mountain to climb now.

    Warner 17, Labuschagne 1

In the build-up to today's game Marnus Labuschagne said he's probably spending too much time with Steve Smith.

Based on that over, he definitely is. There's extravagant blocks, fidgeting outside off stump, lightsaber leaves.

Getting Steve Smith out is difficult enough without someone basically morphing into a clone.

In case you're just joining us, England posted 302-7 off their 50 overs.

That's after being 0-2 two balls into their innings.

That was largely in part due to Jonny Bairstow's 112 which you can watch highlights of below.

  15. Aus 35-2published at 7 overs

    Target 303

Marnus Labuschagne is a character, isn't he? As he made his way to the middle he was jigging all over the place and had words with Tom Curran. Not sure that's necessary to be honest.

He lets out a big booming no as he pats back Chris Woakes first delivery.

This partnership with Warner could very well be the match-defining one.

    In England? Yes.

In ODIs anywhere in the world? Yes.

In Test matches overseas? Work to do. He averages 51.68 with the ball overseas.

You can almost see it in David Warner's eyes he's up for this and is much more positive today - when players get a few low scores, sometimes they come out and try to be ultra positive. Warner is into double figiures without breaking sweat.

  19. Aus 33-2published at 6 overs

David Warner is up for the battle today.

He gets a huge stroke of fortune though, as he misjudges the length of an Archer delivery, and an inside edge just misses the stumps and goes down to fine leg for a couple.

Archer is up around 92mph but Warner is coping with it pretty well so far. Here's his boundary from the first ball of the innings.

Jofra's back out and bowling to David Warner.

There's plenty of chirp from the England fielders. Even the quiet Jos Buttler has just said something.
