  1. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:22 BST 8 May

    Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 110-4 - Yorkshire trail by 37 runs

After about half-an-hour off the field because of bad light the officials decide to call it a day in Birmingham.

We saw 14 wickets fall and there probably would have been a few more if we hadn't lost that time to bad light.

Yorkshire put the hosts in to bat and it proved the right call as Bears batters fell at regular intervals, with only Sam Hain (57) and Ethan Bamber (28) making anything more than 10.

The reply continued in the same vein with Yorkshire 38-3 before a 63-run partnership between Harry Brook and James Wharton gave the visitors a boost.

The Bears managed to remove Wharton before the close but Brook will resume in the morning on 29 not out alongside Jonny Bairstow.

  2. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:21 BST 8 May

    Notts 317-7 v Surrey

Confirmation that there won't be any further cricket tonight after a see-saw first day.

Early wickets for Surrey's Dan Worrall, then two sizeable partnerships for Nottinghamshire... followed by more wickets for Worrall and the current stand between Joe Clarke and Fergus O'Neill that has lifted the home side above 300.

Clarke remains 129 not out, while Worrall has figures of 5-61.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:17 BST 8 May

    Gregory c Tribe b ul Hassan 37 (Somerset 335-8 v Glamorgan)

The hosts are finishing the day strong!

Zain ul Hassan has another and we're well into the tailenders to close the day.

Not for the first time today, a Somerset batsman edges one to Asa Tribe and is off back to the pavilion, this time it's Lewis Gregory.

A handful of balls left, and Jack Leach joins the action.

  4. Bad light stops play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:17 BST 8 May

    Notts 317-7 v Surrey

It's almost as if a switch had been pressed and that was the cue for runs to begin flowing once more.

Fergus O'Neill crashed a boundary to bring up the 50 partnership and Joe Clarke has just hit successive fours off Sean Abbott as Nottinghamshire finish the day on a high.

The gloomy conditions mean play has been suspended, though - and it's likely that will be it for tonight. Clarke is 129 not out, with O'Neill on 31.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:16 BST 8 May

    Elgar c Yusuf b Fuller 18 (Essex 42-2 v Hants 235)

Hampshire nip out another and Dean Elgar can’t see it through to the close as miscues a pull and is caught at long leg.

  6. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 18:11 BST 8 May

    Lancs 201 v Middlesex 38-2

To nobody's great surprise, the light is deemed unlikely to improve tonight - so we'll try again in the morning with the match intriguingly poised.

Middlesex seemed to be on top after bowling the home side out for 200, but those two late wickets for Jimmy Anderson have put the contest very much in the balance.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:08 BST 8 May

    Abell c Cooke b ul Hassan 86 (Somerset 328-7 v Glamorgan)

That's a big wicket before the end of the day!

Zain ul Hassan has thrown everything at the Somerset batting line today and finally gets something to show for it.

Tom Abell takes a tired-looking swing and clips the ball through to Chris Cooke's gloves.

A fine innings nevertheless, that leaves Somerset in a strong position whatever happens between now and the close.

  8. Second batting point for Nottspublished at 18:07 BST 8 May

    Notts 300-7 v Surrey

Joe Clarke squirts Gus Atkinson for a single behind gully and that secures another bonus point for Nottinghamshire. Surrey, of course, already have two in the bag after taking the sixth wicket.

It's needed a reset for the batting side, who would probably have been targeting 400 plus when they came out after tea but that cluster of wickets means sights may need to be set a little lower.

  9. Postpublished at 17:59 BST 8 May

    Notts 298-7 v Surrey

It's developed into something of a stalemate, with Nottinghamshire hovering on the brink of a second batting bonus point but content to defy the Surrey seamers for now.

We've just had a light meter check, but play continues for now with nine overs still scheduled.

  10. 50 runs

50 partnership for Abell and Gregorypublished at 17:57 BST 8 May

    Somerset 314-6 v Glamorgan

A third 50 partnership of the day for Somerset, as Tom Abell and Lewis Gregory keep Glamorgan at bay as the hosts chase wicket number seven.

They join Abell and Craig Overton (71) and Josh Thomas and Tom Lammonby (133) as half-century partnerships in this match.

  11. Bad light stops play at Old Traffordpublished at 17:53 BST 8 May

    Lancs 201 v Middlesex 38-2

    James AndersonImage source, Shutterstock

There's been an enticing duel between the two captains, with Leus du Plooy advancing out of his crease to drive Jimmy Anderson for two off-side fours in an over.

It's a positive approach from the Middlesex skipper - but we won't see any more of it for now because the light has deteriorated sufficiently for the umpires to take the players off.

Still 17 overs left tonight, in theory.

  12. 300 runs

for Leicestershirepublished at 17:51 BST 8 May

    Sussex v Leics 303-9

Four leg byes as Ollie Robinson loses his line a fraction and Leicestershire have their second point.

Sent in and having slumped to 202-7, they’ll be fairly pleased.

    13 overs to go.

  13. Bad light stops playpublished at 17:50 BST 8 May

    Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 110-4

It's been gloomy for the majority of the day but Edgbaston has until now managed to escape the clutches of the gathering darkness.

But a check of the light reader results in the sides heading off for a break in play.

  14. 'Celebration was quite in your face'published at 17:46 BST 8 May

    Warwickshire 147 v Yorkshire 110-4

    Richard Wilford
    BBC Radio WM commentator

A good low catch and a wicket for Jordan Thompson against his former county to break up a stand of 63 that was really threatening to carry the day away from the Bears.

Thompson found the right line and length. The celebration was quite in your face but in a way like it is between two guys that know each other extremely well. It wasn’t unpleasant but it was certainly meant.

  15. Postpublished at 17:44 BST 8 May

    Notts 295-7 v Surrey

Fergus O'Neill is on the counter-attack here for Nottinghamshire.

The batters could barely get a run against Dan Worrall earlier in the day, but O'Neill has just clobbered the Surrey seamer for back to back boundaries to lift his side closer to that 300 mark.

He and Joe Clarke have added 39 so far and O'Neill has 22 of them.

  16. Postpublished at 17:44 BST 8 May

    Worcs 153-6 v Durham

    Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport cricket correspondent at New Road

Who writes his scripts, etc, etc? Ben Stokes strikes again with the first ball after the resumption. It looked too quick for Adam Hose - straight through the defence and into the top of the stumps.

  17. Postpublished at 17:44 BST 8 May

    Somerset 305-6 v Glamorgan

The visitors get to three centuries and pick up their second bonus point of the day. Tom Abell now leading the way as highest scorer for Somerset with 82 from 140 balls.

It matches the Glamorgan bonus tally, with the hosts having already taken six wickets.

  18. Division Two updatepublished at 17:44 BST 8 May

Away from Worcester, Gloucestershire continue to tick along against Kent, now 267-4 after 75 overs, Ben Charlesworth contributing 85 before being bowled by Joey Evison.

Derbyshire are 326-3 against Northants, Caleb Jewell is currently 81 not out, and being supported by Wayne Madsen on 51 not out, with that partnership approaching 100.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:42 BST 8 May

    Scriven b Robinson 50 (Sussex v Leics 298-9)

50 and out for Tom Scriven.

He brings up a half-century in 71 balls, his first of the season, but then falls to Ollie Robinson with the second new ball.

A good length nip-backer rips into middle and off.

Leicestershire could miss out on an extra point here.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:40 BST 8 May

    Holden b Anderson 5 (Lancs 201 v Middlesex 24-2)

How many times have we watched James Anderson taking wickets in these conditions?

He's got two now, fizzing the ball back between Max Holden's bat and pads to hit the stumps and Lancashire spirits are well and truly lifted.

Middlesex captain Leus du Plooy is next in, to face his opposite number.
