    Aberg -3, Rai -5 (1)

A diamond from Aaron Rai at the 11th.

He's dinked his approach to within three feet and he'll have that for a birdie to tie the lead.

  2. Birdie for Smalleypublished at 21:49 BST 17 May

    Smalley -4, Schmid -6 (9)

Matti Schmid finds the putting surface in three on the par-five ninth.

He's putting from over 40 feet mind and has to be satisfied with watching his ball snake down towards the cup to allow him an easy tap in for par. He reaches the turn in 33.

Alex Smalley, almost drains a 30 footer for eagle - his ball just putting the brakes on a couple of inches shy of the hole.

It's a very handy birdie though given he'd dropped three shots in three holes prior to that.

  3. Postpublished at 21:49 BST 17 May

    Smith -5 (15)

Cameron Smith's drive at the par-five 16th runs out of fairway and he plays the percentage shot for the second, bailing into the bunker short left.

He'll have a massive portion of the green to work with.

A birdie here will really make things interesting.

  4. Schauffele slips backpublished at 21:47 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -3 (11)

Xander Schauffele negotiates a slippery putt from the back edge with aplomb and tidies up for bogey. Not a bad five considering his troubles back down the fairway.

Rory McIlroy's approach putt from the middle of the green is weak. Can't afford to miss the six-footer - and he doesn't!

Keeps his card clean and remains two back.

    Loitering.

  5. Par for Rai, bogey for Abergpublished at 21:45 BST 17 May

    Aberg -3, Rai -5 (10)

Stone cold from Aaron Rai from 10 feet as he buries a vital par putt at the 10th.

Ugly mistake from Ludvig Aberg though as he pushes it wide from three feet and he drops a shot at the wrong time.

  6. Golfer given 1% chance of survival wins maiden titlepublished at 21:44 BST 17 May

Away from this enthralling major, there has been a brilliant story coming out of the Ladies European Tour event today.

Leonie Harm was given less than a 1% chance of survival when she was hit by a car in 2013.

Thirteen years later and the German has won her maiden Ladies European Tour title with a one-shot victory at the German Masters.

It caps a remarkable back story for the 28-year-old.

  7. Schauffele smacks the lippublished at 21:41 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -4 (10)

Thinned it! Xander Schauffele skulls his bunker shot on 11. It ricochets off the lip and nestles in the rough just beyond the sand.

His third is long and barely holds the back of the green. He'll do well to make bogey now.

Rory McIlroy missed the fairway left - again - but plays an educated second into the heart of the green. It feeds down the slope a bit but it's 40 feet away. Been the story of his day.

  8. Birdie for Rahmpublished at 21:35 BST 17 May

    Rahm -5, Taylor -5 (9)

Jon Rahm plays a nice lag putt down the slope on the ninth, not enough pace to stand a chance of landing the eagle but also safe enough not to bomb it beyond the flag.

It leaves a nice easy birdie putt for Rahm to get back to five under and hit the turn in one under for his first nine holes.

  9. Cameron keeps his coolpublished at 21:34 BST 17 May

    Smith -5 (15)

Cameron Smith from the bunker. He's deadly out of sand and he's played a beauty there.

It runs seven feet past the hole. A crucial par putt. Makes it! Huge.

    Smalley -3 (8)

Not the situation Alex Smalley wanted.

The voices in the head will be swirling now.

  11. Bogey for Smalleypublished at 21:33 BST 17 May

    Smalley -3, Schmid -6 (8)

Matti Schmid walks off the eighth green looking very satisfied with himself after getting up and down for his par.

Would he take a Nick Faldo-esque (1987 Muirfield) round from here?

Meanwhile, Alex Smalley takes a bogey four after his chip scoots eight feet past. The American's round is starting to unravel.

  12. Still no change for Rorypublished at 21:30 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -4 (10)

Rory McIlroy misses the fairway left at 10 but he does well to thump one out of the rough and into the middle of the green, where he's seemingly putted from most of the day.

Maybe he can get one of these long putts to drop, but not this time it's an eighth par on the spin.

Xander Schauffele does well to make par, too, after short-siding himself right of the green.

  13. Rahm on in twopublished at 21:29 BST 17 May

    Rahm -4, Taylor -5 (8)

Jon Rahm is on the back of the ninth green in two but has a country mile for an eagle, while Nick Taylor had to dig his ball out of the rough but then hit a nice third to about 20 feet.

  14. Postpublished at 21:27 BST 17 May

    Smith -5 (14)

Cameron Smith is pushing his luck. After a horrible duck hook off the 15th tee, he hacks his way into the bunker that guards the right side of the green.

He'll do well to make par at the beastly par-four.

  15. Rose scramblingpublished at 21:27 BST 17 May

    Rose -3 (12)

Justin Rose's driver is not playing nicely at the minute. For the third straight hole he strays from the fairway and from there on in finds himself fighting for par.

The Englishman lands short of the putting surface with his second but his third presents a makeable five-footer to save his par and he duly obliges.

  16. What will get this done?published at 21:26 BST 17 May

Nobody able to get past that -6 score we started the day at.

We're almost halfway through these leaders' final round.

  17. 'Massive' from Raipublished at 21:25 BST 17 May

    Rai -5 (9)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live

That will feel massive for Aaron Rai heading into the back nine.

It hasn’t been as good from him today so far today, a little bit erratic.

    But that certainly helps!

  18. Monster eagle for Raipublished at 21:24 BST 17 May

    Aberg -4, Rai -5 (9)

A raise of the club from Aaron Rai at the ninth! What a putt!

He's just swirled in a 40-foot eagle putt to erase those bogeys and get himself right back into contention. A stunner.

Ludvig Aberg gets a birdie too, cashing in on the easiest hole on the course.

Just when I was worrying this group didn't want to be commentated on anymore.

  19. Postpublished at 21:22 BST 17 May

    Smalley -4, Schmid -6 (7)

Matti Schmid flies the green on the par-three eighth and Alex Smalley tumbles off the left side onto a slight apron. Both have work to do from there.

  20. Postpublished at 21:21 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4 (9)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

We've not had a major winner ever that has started with a round that has put them outside the top 100.

Rory McIlroy was 104th after day one. If he was to do this, it would be an extraordinary achievement.
