  1. Harrington rolls back the yearspublished at 20:47 BST 17 May

    Harrington -1 (69)

Now if there's a shots of the day highlight reel later Padraig Harrington's chip-in eagle on the 16th from out of the sand is sure to be on there.

It was simply glorious from the 54-year-old.

And the 2008 US PGA champion has just signed for a one-under 69 after rolling in a birdie putt on the 18th.

  2. Pars on sixpublished at 20:46 BST 17 May

    Rahm -5, Taylor -5 (6)

Two pars for this pair with similar length of birdie putts around 12-15 feet but via different routes as Jon Rahm spanked his drive into the middle of the fairway just 60 yards short of the flag while Nick Taylor got his drive all wrong and sprayed it into the left rough.

    Both make four though.

  3. Postpublished at 20:44 BST 17 May

    Aberg -5, Rai -4 (6)

Position A1 for Ludvig Aberg down the seventh hole in the middle of the fairway.

He goes into attack mode but that's an unforced error as he spoons it long and it clunks through to the far green fringe.

Aaron Rai is also back there. Will be surprised if I'm updating with any birdies from this group in a few minutes.

  4. Postpublished at 20:43 BST 17 May

    Smalley -6, Schmid -5 (5)

That's brilliant from Alex Smalley. One more revolution and he'd be celebrating a sensational birdie from down town.

As it is he's tapping in from inches for par on the fifth green. His playing partner Matti Schmid has much more to do but also escapes with a three after initially missing the dance floor.

    Smith -5 (11)

Another missed fairway for Cameron Smith, but this time he finds the middle of a bunker and is able to clip a lovely approach into the heart of the 11th green.

This putt doesn't drop, however, so he remains one back of Alex Smalley.

There is a ridiculous queue of players immediately behind Alex Smalley at six under par.

  7. Birdie for Schmidpublished at 20:37 BST 17 May

    Smalley -6, Schmid -5 (4)

Matti Schmid is not going away. The 28-year-old zips into six feet on the fourth and strokes in his putt for birdie.

That's his second in three holes and he's right in the mix and ready to strike.

Could he become only the third German ever to win a major? At this rate you cannot discount him.

  8. Another par for McIlroypublished at 20:35 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -3 (7)

An aggressive play off the tee from Rory McIlroy at the seventh as he bashes driver.

It's an enormous hit - 388 yards - but the fairway slopes severely from right to left and, with the pin back left, he has no shot from short left of the green.

He flops a wedge over the bunker and it rolls out to 26 feet, resulting in another two-putt par. His patience is being tested.

  9. Great birdie for Taylorpublished at 20:33 BST 17 May

    Rahm -5, Taylor -5 (5)

Nick Taylor, surprise, surprise, taps in his birdie putt from a foot and the Canadian is now five under and without a blemish on the card right now.

Jon Rahm was 30 feet away with his tee shot but plays a nice lag putt and then knocks in for par.

  10. Bogey for Raipublished at 20:32 BST 17 May

    Aberg -5, Rai -4 (6)

Oof that'll sting for Aaron Rai as his well-judged 12-foot par attempt down the hill just doesn't come back on line. He gives a shot back to Aronimink.

Ludvig Aberg was clumsy with his first putt and this is a niggly seven foot coming back to save par. Nailed. Composed from the Swede.

  11. Bogey for Rosepublished at 20:31 BST 17 May

    Rose -2 (8)

Justin Rose snaps his run of pars but in a far from ideal way as he takes a bogey on the eighth.

That's a big step back in his bid to become the first English winner of the US PGA Championship since Jim Barnes in 1919.

On the front nine, the pins are a little more accessible today but the sixth is incredibly tight. It's got people's attention.

On the back, they are quite tight again. It will be more about where you miss it rather than taking it on and people trying to avoid making mistakes.

  13. Postpublished at 20:28 BST 17 May

    Smalley -6, Schmid -4 (3)

That must feel like a birdie for Alex Smalley, who pours in a 26-footer for par on the third.

  14. Postpublished at 20:28 BST 17 May

    Aberg -5, Rai -5 (5)

Trouble at the sixth for both Aaron Rai and Ludvig Aberg. The former has punched his second shot right through the green and into the fringe, 85 feet away so will be scrambling for par.

The latter has left his in a tricky spot from 30 feet. Work to do for both.

  15. Great savepublished at 20:27 BST 17 May

    Smith -5 (10)

After a horrible slice off the tee on 10, Cameron Smith has tree trouble, but he misses the bark and advances the ball into a little valley between the green and eighth hole's putting surface.

It leaves him chipping back across the green. He shows lovely touch to get it down to five feet and hammers the putt into the back of the cup. Sign of a confident player right there.

  16. 'You never know'published at 20:26 BST 17 May

    Thomas -5 (65)

    Justin ThomasImage source, Getty Images

Justin Thomas speaking to Sky Sports after posting a career-low score at a majors final round: "I didn't have to play a perfect round of golf but I had to play a really solid one. I was able to drive it well, hit some nice irons to give myself some chances and I made some huge par saves when I needed to.

"It's all dependent on the weather. If the wind stays down, I'm not sure it'll be enough, but if it picks up, you never know.

"It's really hard to win a golf tournament. There's a lot of people out there but I like my chances a lot more at five under than at four under!

  17. Stunner!published at 20:23 BST 17 May

    Rahm -5, Taylor -4 (4)

Playing alongside Jon Rahm, Nick Taylor has been solid so far with four pars, but it'll be a birdie at the fifth as he's played a sparkling iron in on the par three that almost produces an ace!

It's about a foot at most from the hole so that'll be a two for the Canadian.

  18. Postpublished at 20:22 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -3 (5)

After a poor drive at the sixth, and with the pin tucked tight to the front right edge, Rory McIlroy takes his medicine and fires away from the flag. A sensible play not to compound the error off the tee.

It's another great nudge with the putter, too, so it's a tap-in par.

No mistakes but he has to start picking up a shot or two.

It's a sixth straight par for Xander Schauffele, who's also stuck in neutral.

  19. Par for Rahmpublished at 20:20 BST 17 May

    Rahm -5, Taylor -4 (4)

Jon Rahm makes no mistake getting down in two from 35 feet to make a safe par on the fourth and keep his challenge rolling in the right direction.

He'll just want to tighten up a bit off the tee though after a couple of wayward drives.

  20. Pars for Aberg & Raipublished at 20:18 BST 17 May

    Aberg -5, Rai -5 (5)

A pair of pars for Ludvig Aberg and Aaron Rai at the par-three fifth.

Both hit the green from the tee, but had plenty of distance for their putts so are probably quite satisfied to post three on their cards.
