  1. Rai 'looks good'published at 22:13 BST 17 May

    Rai -6 (12)

There's a bit of separation happening at the leaderboard.

Aaron Rai has played the last couple of holes, the toughest on the course, fantastically well as he heads to that easier 13th.

He looks good. There are only a couple of holes really left for the rest of the field to make birdie.

  2. Reed still in therepublished at 22:12 BST 17 May

    Reed -3 (14)

Patrick Reed isn't quite done yet, after playing a sparkling tee shot on the long par-four 14th he rolls in a four-footer for a birdie to get back to three under, where he started the day, and still well in touch.

A flying finish would make things interesting.

  3. Important par save for Raipublished at 22:11 BST 17 May

    Aberg -3, Rai -6 (12)

It's a bump-and-run for Aaron Rai from behind the 12th green and he gets it to about five feet for par.

No knee-knocking here though for the Englishman as he pops it in and strides off. All business.

Well played Ludvig Aberg too as he finds the middle of cup from 11 feet. Par.

  4. Par for Rahmpublished at 22:10 BST 17 May

    Rahm -5, Taylor -4 (11)

Jon Rahm is just a bit heavy-handed with a lob wedge and leaves a tricky old putt down the hill on 11 for a birdie.

He judges it about as well as anyone but it just trickles to the side of the hole and it's a par for the Spaniard.

  5. McIlroy in troublepublished at 22:09 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4 (12)

Rory McIlroy is punished for that wayward three-wood. The rough catches his club at impact and he fails to reach the green.

He duffs his third, too, and the ball trickles back down the slope to around 60 feet from the hole.

His hopes could be extinguished at this hole.

    Smith -4 (17)

    Oliver Wilson

It's been an absolute grind for Cam Smith, having made only three fairways today. He'll need a rest!

But he can feel really proud of how he has played this tournament.

  7. Smith makes bogeypublished at 22:07 BST 17 May

    Smith -4 (17)

Cameron Smith is a mile away from the flag at the par-three 17th.

From 80 feet, his ball just about makes it over the ridge but it quickly runs out of steam and he'll have a must-make 11-footer for par.

He's missed another one! Not even close this time. He drops back to four under and needs a three at the last to match Justin Thomas' target.

Have we ever seen such an international leaderboard? I make 7 of the top 8 are from different countries

Remember that the past 10 winners of this tournament have been American as well.

    Aberg -3, Rai -6 (11)

We join our outright leader Aaron Rai in the middle of the 12th fairway.

He's sizing up 172 yards to the pin and takes dead aim.

It's a touch overdone and runs through the back of the green, but there's no rough there so he should be fine.

  10. Bogey for Schmidpublished at 22:02 BST 17 May

    Smalley -4, Schmid -5 (10)

Joint leader Matti Schmid finds the rough on the 10th and can't take the green on.

It's just a lay up from the German who then chips to 15 feet. Big putt coming up for par and he's pushed it past.

Wonder what Justin Thomas is up to at the moment?

Aberg is a fantastic golfer but when do we start to question if he’s a winner? Another poor showing on a Sunday when in the mix for a win.

    Rahm -5, Taylor -4 (10)

It's another huge hit from Jon Rahm off the 11th tee - 333 yards this time and down the left of the fairway, which is ideal given there's a right flag today.

    McIlroy -4 (12)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live

That's a really bad shot from Rory McIlroy. And it's a terrible leave.

He would have known he needed to take advantage of [the 13th] and he's absolutely not done that.

He's going to have to do some magic.

    McIlroy -4 (12)

At the driveable par-four 13th, Rory McIlroy produces his worst swing of the day with a three-wood.

He loses it way right and it looks to be stymied behind a tree. Horrible.

  15. Postpublished at 21:57 BST 17 May

    McIlroy -4, Schauffele -3 (12)

Rory McIlroy can't hit a fairway at the moment. He's left again and whacks out of the rough to 44 feet.

We know how it goes from here. A good lag from distance and another par.

Starting to run out of holes. Needs to find a surge of inspiration.

In it goes for Aaron Rai!

We have an Englishman in a tie for the lead.

  17. Smith makes fivepublished at 21:53 BST 17 May

    Smith -5 (16)

Hmmm, not Cam's best effort from the sand.

Lacks a bit of oomph and he'll have 15 feet for a potentially momentous birdie.

Here it comes...it misses right! He can't buy a putt and that's a huge chance missed for the Australian.

Just two holes left to edge ahead of Justin Thomas.

  18. Rahm wastes great drivepublished at 21:52 BST 17 May

    Rahm -5, Taylor -4 (10)

Jon Rahm launches an absolute howitzer off the 10th tee, firing it 352 yards down the fairway, but his second shot is pretty lame in comparison when he lands his approach shot almost 40 feet from the flag.

So in the end he has to work hard just to make his par - but that's better than Nick Taylor as he makes a bogey here to drop back a shot.

What’s the largest number of players to be tied after the final hole and go to a playoff ? I have a feeling there could be multiple players tied at the end of this.

    Rob, Enfield

We make it that the most in a major playoff is four at the Open when Ernie Els won at Muirfield.

The most in the US PGA is three (1978 & 2004)

    Rose -3 (14)

Justin Rose is still hanging tough but the problem is that all his make-or-break putts at the minute seem to be for par.

In goes another one from 10 feet on the 14th green.
