  1. Challenge fadingpublished at 19:00 GMT 15 March

    Harman -7, Hovland -8 (6)

Back-to-back bogeys for Viktor Hovland on the fourth and fifth followed by a bogey for Brian Harman on the sixth sees this pair just slide away out of contention.

Still time to get back itno things but they're trending in the wrong direction right now.

  2. Not to be for Abergpublished at 18:57 GMT 15 March

    Aberg -13, Thorbjornsen -6 (5)

That's one of 'those' putt from Ludvig Aberg on five that looks like it wants to break towards the hole but it just keeps wobbling down the hill and stays wide of the target.

It's a birdie putt though so no damage done but he'd have liked that one to drop with Matt Fitzpatrick now breathing down his neck.

Michael Thorbjornsen is having a nightmare as he makes another bogey so that's five shots gone for him in two holes - head spinning stuff.

  3. Thomas in troublepublished at 18:56 GMT 15 March

    Thomas -8, Conners -4 (7)

Justin Thomas has made three consecutive pars since his birdie on the fourth but his shout of 'fore left' immediately signals that his tee shot on the eighth is well off the mark.

He has one or two specatators scrmabling for cover as his ball drops out of the sky to the right of the cart path.

Unlike Corey Conners who is at four over for the day, the American will still be hoping a late charge could stick him into contention.

  4. Birdie for MacIntyrepublished at 18:52 GMT 15 March

    Schauffele -7, MacIntyre -9 (8)

Robert MacIntrye comes up trumps at the par-three eighth hole as an aggressive looking putt from 30 feet rattles the back of the cup as it drops.

That looked like it might well have travelled another 6 feet had it missed.

  5. Postpublished at 18:49 GMT 15 March

    Rose -5 (9)

Justin Rose reaches the turn at one over for the day.

He'd need some run to even threaten the top of the leaderboard from this position.

  6. Fitzpatrick scrambles to save parpublished at 18:46 GMT 15 March

    Young -10, Fitzpatrick -11 (5)

Matt Fitzpatrick is right in this. The left greenside bunker that is (as well as the hunt for the Players Championship title) on the fifth.

Without any hesitation though he has a little waggle and splashes out to six feet on his way to a scrambling par.

Cam Young is a whisker away from a birdie from 27 feet but it's another one that hasn't dropped for the American. He's had a fair few of those over the last 24 hours.

  7. The dreaded snowman!published at 18:43 GMT 15 March

    Aberg -13, Thorbjornsen -7 (4)

A shot went for Ludvig Aberg but it was much, much worse for playing partner Michael Thorbjornsen as he has to sign for an eight on the par-four fourth - the dreaded snowman!

And he stood on the fairway just 100 yards away with his third shot, but he hit the water, had a drop, then his wedge on left a stinker of a putt down a slippery slope - which was quite apt as his ball whizzed down their quicker than his name down the leaderboard.

The young American has gone from chasing the leader to T11 back at seven under in the blink of an eye. Sawgrass can hit you when you least expect it.

  8. Shot goes for Abergpublished at 18:40 GMT 15 March

    Aberg -13, Thorbjornsen -11 (4)

Ludvig Aberg plays a poor chip out from the rough around the fourth green and he can't save his par with the putter so that's a shot gone and his lead cut to just two shots.

Matthew Fitzpatrick is now the leading chaser...

  9. Bogey for Bobpublished at 18:34 GMT 15 March

    Schauffele -8, MacIntyre -8 (6)

What a putt that is. Xander Schauffele strokes in a putt from downtown to save his par on the sixth.

Robert MacIntrye, who is putting from 11 feet can't repeat the trick and slides three feet past.

  10. Splash!published at 18:33 GMT 15 March

    Aberg -14, Thorbjornsen -11 (3)

Huge error from Michael Thorbjornsen on the fourth, who has to hack out of the rough then has about 100 yards to wedge it close.

He takes a far too aggressive line though and overshoots it and his ball takes one bounce and then hops into the water. Bad mistake that one.

  11. Fitzpatrick on firepublished at 18:28 GMT 15 March

    Young -10, Fitzpatrick -11 (4)

Matt Fitzpatrick is well and truly on fire at the moment. A brilliant approach sets up a third birdie in four holes.

The Englishman moves into a tie for second on the leaderboard.

  12. Top 10 run to end?published at 18:24 GMT 15 March

    Players Championship

The cream rises to the top at The Players Championship with the last six winners all being in the top 10 of the world rankings when claiming the PGA Tour's flagship event.

Xander Schauffele is the top 10 man closest to the top in T4 overnight, with Robert MacIntyre, Sepp Straka and maybe even Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood the only ones that could possible keep that run going.

  13. Par for Abergpublished at 18:24 GMT 15 March

    Aberg -14, Thorbjornsen -11 (3)

Ludvig Aberg has a good run at a birdie putt at the third but it just curls away to the right infront of the hole - terrific speed though and leaves just a tap-in for par.

  14. Postpublished at 18:23 GMT 15 March

    Young -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (3)

Matt Fitzpatrick and Cam Young are both going to have a look at a birdie on the fourth.

The American is slightly fortunate after undercooking his approach with the slope off the bail out area to the right of the pin getting him out of any trouble.

  15. Bogey for Hovlandpublished at 18:19 GMT 15 March

    Harman -8, Hovland -9 (4)

We praised Viktor Hovland for his chipping earlier but he's gone back to the old Viktor Hovland here with a bit of a duffer. It's an odd choice of shot and executed poorly as he chips from the rough at the fourth and flops it right into the bunker!

    That costs him a shot.

  16. Postpublished at 18:19 GMT 15 March

    Schauffele -8, MacIntyre -9 (5)

Xander Schauffele coughs up a bogey on the fifth and then booms his tee shot on the six miles right and way over the cart path in between the pines.

If he gets his binoculars out he might just see Bob MacIntyre first set of trees.

  17. Birdie for Fleetwoodpublished at 18:15 GMT 15 March

    Fleetwood -6 (13)

It's too little too late in all likelihood but Tommy Fleetwood continues to climb up the leaderboard with a birdie on the 13th, his second in three holes.

  18. Birdie for leader Abergpublished at 18:15 GMT 15 March

    Aberg -14, Thorbjornsen -11 (2)

Brilliant from Ludvig Aberg who has destroyed the par fives at Sawgrass this week - and he almost cans it from 50 yards away for what would be a fourth eagle of the week.

He's left just a tap-in for birdie though to to move to 14 under, but his lead remains at three as Michael Thorbjornsen also makes his four here at the second.

  19. Postpublished at 18:14 GMT 15 March

    Young -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (3)

Matt Fitzpatrick's putter is running hot. The Englishman perfectly judges a 38-foot putt for pace an is an inch or two from seeing it disappear for a third straigh birdie.

Good early signs from the 2022 US Open champion.

  20. Dream start for Fitzypublished at 18:07 GMT 15 March

    Young -10, Fitzpatrick -10 (2)

Matt Fitzpatrick birdied all four par-five holes on Saturday and he continues in the same vein today.

Birdie, birdie, is very much a dream start for the Englishman.
