  1. Postpublished at 22:26 BST 16 May

    Rai -5 (17)

Aaron Rai would take a bogey five now, all day long. He doesn't catch his wedge full enough and his ball flips another 38 yards forward to leave him short of the front edge.

Had his lie been worse off the tee, he'd probably have popped a wedge on the fairway and had a putt for par.

  2. Solid par on 17published at 22:24 BST 16 May

    Aberg -4 (17)

Solid stuff from Ludvig Aberg as he gets the distance pretty much spot-on on the par-three 17th, but 30 feet to the left of the flag. Two putts are enough to get his par though.

One more to go for the Swede today.

  3. Lee battles onpublished at 22:24 BST 16 May

    Lee -1, Greyserman -3

A little bit inconsistent from Min Woo Lee who is struggling to make headway.

He bogeys the 12th, paying the price for finding the rough with his tee shot before failing to slide in a putt from eight feet.

However, the Aussie immediately bounces back with a birdie at the 13th rolling a 44-foot putt from the edge of the green then tapping in.

  4. Postpublished at 22:22 BST 16 May

    Rai -5 (17)

Aaron Rai goes left off the tee on the 18th and then tries to scoot his second up out of the rough and run it up towards the green.

The only problem is that he squirts that right and straight into the fairway bunker to leave a treacherous third shot. Out comes the wedge.

  5. Long slog for Scottiepublished at 22:22 BST 16 May

    Scheffler -2, Puig +1 (15)

The 15th is a long old par four in this wind, as Scottie Scheffler shows when hitting a drive 292 yards then still needing a three wood to smack it 251 onto the green. Four's a good score here.

  6. Bogey for Gotteruppublished at 22:18 BST 16 May

    Matsuyama -1, Gotterup -3 (11)

To the surprise of nobody Chris Gotterup couldn't save his par from 50 feet away, but it's a seriously good effort and takes the three putt out of the equation at least.

The second shot did the damage as you just can't got long over the back of the 11th - and it's now back-to-back bogeys for Gotterup.

  7. Postpublished at 22:17 BST 16 May

    Rai -5 (17)

Aaron Rai finds the heart of the 17th but now has a fast putt over the hump to contend with.

Like every other shot he seems to have played today, it is well measured and allows him to tap in with his second putt and head over to the 18th with his lead still intact.

  8. Birdie for Aberg - but he wanted an eaglepublished at 22:15 BST 16 May

    Aberg -4 (16)

A birdie for Ludvig Aberg on 16, but he wanted an eagle, and was a whisker away from getting one after two sublime strikes set him up with just 13 feet for a three.

Still, the birdie puts him back on four under.

  9. What a shot!published at 22:10 BST 16 May

    Matsuyama -1, Gotterup -4 (10)

Talk about not getting your rewards! Chris Gotterup has played a worldie of a flop shot, out of the rough, on a big down slope, to a short-sided flag on the 11th.

The difficulty tariff on this one is off the charts but he plays it as good as anyone possibly could, sending the ball skywards and landing softly on the green before just rolling beyond the flag.

Only, this is the 11th green with a massive slope and the ball rolls on, and on, and on, and, you get the picture. He ends up 50 feet away! No real justice in golf is there?

  10. Smalley back in the huntpublished at 22:08 BST 16 May

    Smalley -3, McNealy -3 (10)

Maverick McNealy has now had two birdie chances in two holes and neither putt has quite had enough juice.

His look on the 10th green is one of pure frustration, especially as his playing partner Alex Smalley is running hot with his putter, dunking in back-to-back birdies.

  11. Par for Schefflerpublished at 22:06 BST 16 May

    Scheffler -2, Puig -1 (14)

A decent tee shot on the 14th, a par three, by Scottie Scheffler leaves 25 feet for birdie but the way he's been putting nobody really expected him to make it.

    He didn't.

  12. Postpublished at 22:04 BST 16 May

    Rai -5 (16)

Aaron Rai is lining up a birdie putt up the slope on the 16th green.

The Englishman's methodical and meticulous course management is often likened to six-time major winner and former world number one Nick Faldo.

This putt doesn't drop though, sliding just past and he stays at five under, with two holes to negotiate.

  13. Postpublished at 22:03 BST 16 May

    Rahm -4 (67)

    Oliver Wilson
Former Ryder Cup player on BBC Sounds

I think he'd have taken that at the start of the day but its really hard when you finish like that, it's a real gut blow and he's going to have to pick himself up for tomorrow.

  14. Bogey finish for Rahm!published at 22:01 BST 16 May

    Rahm -4 (F)

    Jon RahmImage source, Getty Images

Oh no! Jon Rahm gives his 30-foot birdie try a really good roll and it looks in all the way, until it dives off to the left just at the death.

His just has three feet to tidy up but, wait, he bangs it at the left edge with far too much pace and it lips out at 90 degrees!

That's just a second bogey of the day and comes with a three putt, Rahm will be furious as it also drops him out of the current lead.

  15. Lee comes up short with birdie chancespublished at 22:00 BST 16 May

    Lee -1, Greyserman -3 (11)

Min Woo LeeImage source, Getty Images

Min Woo Lee is still trying to scrape his way back into his round following a double bogey on the ninth.

The 27-year-old Aussie goes close with birdie putts from around 10 feet on both the 10th and 11th holes. Very close in fact.

    Close but no cigar.

Max Greyserman remains at three under as he begins the back nine with a couple of pars.

  16. Bogey for Gotteruppublished at 21:56 BST 16 May

    Matsuyama -1, Gotterup -4 (10)

Chris Gotterup is out of position on the 10th but he scrambles back nicely and manages to leave himself eight feet for par, which usually you'd expect him to make but this time his putter lets him down.

That's a bogey that drops him out of the lead.

  17. Postpublished at 21:51 BST 16 May

    Young +1, Thomas E (12)

Justin Thomas arrests a run of four successive bogeys on the 11th and now has a birdie putt on the 12th.

He could really do with this dropping after a crisp second to 10 feet but it shuffles right and he stays at level par.

Still it could be worse. Cameron Young can't even save his par and has pretty much made a bogey every other hole today.

  18. Scheffler can't believe itpublished at 21:50 BST 16 May

    Scheffler -2, Puig -1 (13)

Scottie Scheffler has six feet for birdie on the 13th but his putt doesn't even touch the sides as he lets yet another shot go on the greens.

And just one look at Scheffler's face tells you that he's in all kinds of bother mentally with what's happening with his putting today.

    James Gregg
    BBC Radio commentator

A total of 16 golfers have either led, or held a share of the lead to this point today. That has to be some kind of record.

  20. Postpublished at 21:46 BST 16 May

    Rai -5 (15)

Aaron Rai take a bow. The Englishman looks in a spot of bother when he hits a wayward tee shot, which means the green is well out of the equation with his second.

But he is right on the money after leaving himself a wedge, spiraling a shot in towards the 15th flag that spins back a foot or two to leave a tap in for par.

If he were to triumph this weekend, he could be the most famous bloke in Wolverhampton since Steve Bull was at his peak.
