  1. So close!published at 23:08 BST 12 April

    Scheffler -11 (17)

Scottie Scheffler trickles a birdie try down the hill on 17, it looks like he's not given it enough but gravity keeps it tumbling on and on and on and...short!

Not by much, but it stays up and he stays on 11 under. One more to go.

  2. Get Involved: Who wins the Masters?published at 23:06 BST 12 April

    The Masters

This is the good stuff isn't it? Rory McIlroy seems to have weathered the storm and is back in control of his game, and his emotions, but Scottie Scheffler is finishing like a train.

Justin Rose is clinging on in there and could Cam Young make a late push? Vote for your winner.

  3. Henley signs off with parpublished at 23:05 BST 12 April

    Henley -10 (68)

Russell Henley signs off with a par on his birthday.

The American has played the last 10 holes in even par and this will be his fifth top-10 finish in his last nine appearances at major championships.

  4. Hatton wants a beer but can't have one... yetpublished at 23:02 BST 12 April

    Hatton -10 (66)

England's Tyrrell Hatton speaking to Sky Sports, after setting the clubhouse lead: "I'm just really happy with the back nine that I ended up putting together. A really good up and down on 11 and 17 and 18. I am proud to shoot another round in the 60s and that was definitely my goal today.

"If you'd asked me before I'd teed off my plan would have been to go find a cold beer and watch the end of the golf and then fly back to Orlando but now I guess I am going to have to sit on front of a TV without a cold beer and see what happens."

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (14)

Rory McIlroy gives it the full treatment at 15, but he's lost it right. In the trees.

Cameron Young stripes one down the middle. A beauty.

  6. Burns back in businesspublished at 23:01 BST 12 April

    Burns -8, Lowry -3 (14)

Sam Burns picked up birdies on 13 and 14 to get back to eight under and you just never know what might be possible if he's at the start of one of those runs - even though he seems too far back right now.

It's been a really tough day for Shane Lowry who has had two double bogeys and is six over for his round - not exactly how he wanted the day to go after starting the round right in the thick of it.

  7. Birdie for Rosepublished at 22:59 BST 12 April

    Rose -11 (15)

Justin Rose has his putter in hand from just off the 15th green. He must be a good 45 feet from the pin but he judges his eagle effort superbly and nips it down to a foot.

That brings a very valuable birdie - his first on the back nine and he moves into a tie for second on what has been a revolving leaderboard.

  8. Par for Rory at 14published at 22:58 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (14)

Rory McIlroy undercooks his approach into 14. It's one of those gathering pins but he's nowhere near it.

He takes two putts and that's another hole out of the way, but with Scottie Scheffler and Justin Rose breathing down his neck, he'd love a birdie at 15.

Cameron Young misses a 15-footer for birdie but rattles the return putt into the back of the cup. He needs something to happen quick.

  9. Streaking Scheffler still in thispublished at 22:55 BST 12 April

    Scheffler -11 (16)

In true Kevin Keegan style Scottie Scheffler is still in there fighting for this title, as he rolls in a birdie on 16 following the classic tee shot on this hole, landing it wide right high up on the bank and letting it roll into the bowl down to the pin.

Scheffler gets to 11 under - and to continue the analogy Rory McIlroy's got to go to 15 and 16 and get something - and Scottie would love it if he beats him. Love it.

  10. 'McIlroy looks totally different'published at 22:53 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13 (13)

    Trish Johnson
Former Europe Solheim Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live

McIlroy has obviously worked something out, there’s no question about it.

He’s missed two fairways all days and the thing is with Rory, when he hits his driver well, he’s so far down there, and his irons have been great.

    He looks totally different.

  11. Morikawa can't match Hattonpublished at 22:52 BST 12 April

    Morikawa -9 (68)

Collin Morikawa can't match Tyrrell Hatton's total of 278 as his birdie putt slides past on the 18th.

He finishes at nine under after a closing 68 and he'll have to settle for a top-10.

Now he can go and get that back injury sorted out.

  12. Postpublished at 22:49 BST 12 April

    Rose -10 (14)

It'd be fair to say that is not what Justin Rose was looking for as he attacks the 15th green but pushes it right.

The Englishman is wobbling and looks like someone who is acutely aware that this is slipping further away.

  13. 'The most unlikely birdie - game still on for Scheffler'published at 22:48 BST 12 April

    Scheffler -10 (15)

    Andrew Magee
PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

The most unlikely birdie from Scottie Scheffler – the game is still on and we’ve got three holes to play.

Can he get to 13? I don’t know.

  14. Hear the roar!published at 22:46 BST 12 April

    Scheffler -10 (15)

Stop that Scottie Scheffler! He knows he's running out of time and he picks this point to roll in a whopper of a putt on the 15th to take advantage of that wonderful shot from the pine straw for a much-needed birdie.

And just about everyone at Augusta National knows about it as the patrons in one of the few grandstands on the course go wild.

  15. 'McIlroy just played the safe shot'published at 22:46 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13 (13)

    Trish Johnson
Former Europe Solheim Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think we just realised why McIlroy putted. He just played the very safe shot.

He knew he was going to leave it underneath the hole, but he knew if the ball was going away from the creek there was no way it was going to go in it.

  16. Postpublished at 22:46 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (13)

What a fightback from Rory McIlroy after frittering three shots away on the two front-nine par-threes.

Since then, he's had four birdies and three pars and has taken control with five holes left.

Remember, he took seven at 13 on his way to winning last year. He's exorcised that particular ghost right there.

  17. McIlroy takes three-shot leadpublished at 22:43 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (13)

McIlroy's out with the putter from off the green because his ball stopped on a little downslope.

His starting line is about 30 feet left of the cup and he judges the speed well.

Ten feet for birdie left. Huge putt. Makes it! Three-shot lead.

Young has a flat lie and can take the wedge. He looks interested as it takes off on its long journey but it's carrying a lot of pace and runs out to 12 feet. Misses. He stays 10-under.

  18. Brilliant save from Rosepublished at 22:42 BST 12 April

    Rose -10 (14)

An exceptional chip from Justin Rose gets him out of bother on the 14th and leaves him with a gimme-range putt to save his par.

Can he regain his earlier momentum over the final stretch?

  19. Scottie scramblingpublished at 22:42 BST 12 April

    Scheffler -9 (14)

Scottie Scheffler is having an adventure on the 15th - not quite Rory McIlroy standard but not too far off.

The world number one spanked his drive into the trees, and then hit the trees again just trying to bunt it out back onto the fairway, so he's left with a nightmare third still in the pine straw, under a branch and then over the pond to the green.

And of course he finds the green. Stupidly good.

  20. Postpublished at 22:39 BST 12 April

    Henley -10 (17)

You'd think it's very much now or never territory for Russell Henley, who couldn't drain a long birdie attempt on the 16th green.

However, this is looking better as he nails his second into the 17th to set up yet another chance to snaffle a much-needed birdie.

He's missed again. He needs something special going up 18.
