    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (17)

McIlroy wears an anxious look as he arrives at his ball.

And with good reason. He's blocked by a tree and is starting to direct the gallery away from his line.

  2. Postpublished at 23:40 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (17)

Right Rory, two more solid full swings needed.

Ohhh he's lost his drive at 18 to the right. And it's hit a tree.

It's never simple with McIlroy, is it?

Scottie Scheffler ain't going anywhere just yet.

  3. 'How many more years for Rose?'published at 23:39 BST 12 April

    Rose -10 (70)

    Kat Downes
Golf commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Justin Rose must be wondering how many more years will it take?

Thirteen years since he was crowned US Open champion in 2013, and so close once again to having his Masters dreams come true.

  4. Rose concludes with parpublished at 23:38 BST 12 April

    Rose -10 (70)

There's no final chip-in birdie for Justin Rose. But he does get a huge hand as he runs up close and then taps in for par.

After finishing second 12 months ago, the Englishman has just fallen short again and currently sits in a tie for third.

  5. McIlroy takes two-shot lead to 18published at 23:38 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (17)

The leader taps in for par at 17.

McIlroy takes a two-shot lead to the 72nd hole. Last year, he had a one-stroke advantage over Rose at this stage but bogeyed 18 to fall into the play-off.

  6. Postpublished at 23:35 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (16)

McIlroy is relying on his short game again.

Ohhh but he plays a nerveless chip from off the right at 17. It skids past the hole on the right. It had a look in on the way past. A couple of feet for par.

  7. Postpublished at 23:33 BST 12 April

    Rose -10 (17)

Justin Rose smashes his drive left down the 18th. His body language has completely changed over the previous eight holes but then three bogeys will do that.

He's playing his second from way back but can't muscle that on the front of the green and finds himself in almost an identical position to where Scottie Scheffler found himself earlier.

  8. Postpublished at 23:33 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (16)

Rory McIlroy has 151 yards in after that brilliant drive.

Uh oh. The hand comes off the club and he misses right.

    That was a straight-up block.

  9. Postpublished at 23:27 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (16)

Rory McIlroy's out with the big stick at 17.

A bullet! A low, chasing fairway finder.

Smart play from a seasoned major championship campaigner.

  10. Scheffler just falls short?published at 23:25 BST 12 April

    Scheffler -11 (68)

You never know, but the par on the last means Scottie Scheffler looks likely to fall short with Rory McIlroy going well down the stretch.

This is Augusta National though, and it is Rory McIlroy we're talking about, who loves a bit of the theatrical, so I wouldn't be packing up my clubs just yet if I were Scheffler, would you?

Justin Rose needs a bit of magic here. He hits a great chip but it's just outside the line of the flag meaning par is the best he can do.

This is a tiddler from inside two feet but he pushes at it tentatively and it misses right. Goodnight Vienna.

  12. Young lips out at 16published at 23:24 BST 12 April

Cameron Young needs to make birdie at 16.

Oh no! It lips out on the left and he needs a minor miracle over the next 20 minutes.

  13. Brilliant save from McIlroy at 16published at 23:23 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13 (16)

Rory McIlroy isn't a million miles away from where Tiger Woods was for that miraculous chip-in in 2005.

There is so much break in this. He's putting.

Away it goes. It looks good as it sneaks over the ridge.

It's a fantastic effort. He leaves it a foot away, puffs the cheeks and taps in for a critical par.

Two up with two to play.

  14. Burns lands a bombpublished at 23:19 BST 12 April

    Burns -10 (16)

Sam Burns drains a huge putt on 16, and we're talking serious yardage here as it must be 60 feet if it's an inch, covering almost the full length of the putting surface.

That's just a ridiculous putt to make and it means the American is now on 10 under and finishing strongly.

  15. Postpublished at 23:17 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (15)

    Rory McIlroy at the 16th.

He twirls the club as he sends it on its way but the adrenaline has clearly kicked in! He flies the green and that's an unbelievably difficult pitch from there.

    This is so, so tense.

Cameron Young leans to the left but his ball comes back down off the ridge and he faces a must-make birdie putt.

  16. Postpublished at 23:17 BST 12 April

    Rose -11 (16)

"Go, stay in the air" come the shouts as Justin Rose launches his approach towards the 17th flag.

He's 180 yards away but this is coming up well short and after initally grabbing the front edge of the green it trickles back down the slope.

  17. No birdies at 15published at 23:15 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (15)

Rory McIlroy took a long look at the leaderboard to the right of the 15th green, so he knows exactly how it's stacking up at the moment.

After a bit of a scare with the third, he lags his birdie putt up to kick-in distance and takes his five.

Cameron Young putts from off the back of the green. Well judged...but he pushes his birdie putt to the right! Oh dear.

  18. Rose gets lucky break on 17thpublished at 23:14 BST 12 April

    Rose -11 (16)

Justin Rose wants to, but refrains from pummelling his driver into an Augusta National tee box on the 17th.

Maybe he's heard all about Sergio Garcia's antics earlier.

This is flying well right and the Englishman looks in agony, but his ball cannons a tree and flies back on to the fairway. What a break for Rose.

  19. McIlroy avoids the drinkpublished at 23:10 BST 12 April

    McIlroy -13, Young -10 (14)

Rory McIlroy chips out from the trees at 15.

Ohhh, but his third from around 100 yards barely covers the water! He didn't catch that one at all.

Heart in mouth moment. It's dry, but it's only an outside shout for a birdie.

Cameron Young is long in two.

  20. Par for Rosepublished at 23:10 BST 12 April

    Rose -11 (16)

Justin Rose attacks the 16th pin but has his adrenaline caught hold of this? It skips on past the flag to at least 20 feet.

Such a difficult birdie putt coming back that way but he doesn't half go close, rolling down to four or five inches.

The Englishman is not done yet but will likely need something remarkable over the next two holes.
