I think that it will be a Merc v McLaren fight this weekend. Kimi has been on a phenomenal run of form but at the same time McLaren has had great form at this circuit. With Russell on the hunt for a win it could be very tense. Can't wait.

I think it'll be close but I'm going for a McLaren pole

    Matthew, Portsmouth

Pole? I'd love it to be Hamilton. But I expect it'll be Russell or Antonelli

The other thing worth bearing in mind, we've been talking about the heat this weekend and the last race that was this hot, but not on a conventional circuit like this one, was in Miami in May. McLaren were really strong there. In fact, Lando Norris should've won that grand prix, if they hadn't slightly got their strategy calls wrong. And that's one of the reasons why McLaren have looked stronger this weekend.

So, I'm really interested to see how they've upgraded their car since then.

Carlos Sainz has the red soft tyres bolted on his Williams and goes the quickest out on track at the moment.

It is a lap time of 1:18.107 for the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, the Mercedes have decided to join the circuit.

Valtteri Bottas' Cadillac is among the first lot of cars out on the circuit.

The team have worked hard to get the car ready in time after he crashed out of FP3.

Joining him are his team-mate Sergio Perez, Williams' Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, Haas' Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman, the Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll.

He is definitely the man to beat, George Russell. He's put it all together so far in practice - he's not had too many things go wrong for him.

Kimi Antonelli, he's sort of faced the other side of the coin, with lots of traffic and disruptive running.

So let's see if he can find his feet and get his rhythm back.

  7. Go! Go! Go!published at 15:00 BST 13 June

    Ready for qualifying? Let's go.

The 18 minutes clock for Q1 has begun its countdown.

Lots of umbrellas are out around the circuit. Nope, the rain is not coming, it's just very sunny.

Track temperature is a very toasty 51C.

In the constructors' championship, Mercedes hold a 79-point advantage over second-placed Ferrari, while McLaren and Red Bull stay put in third and fourth respectively.

Alpine's reinstated third place has moved the French team 15 points free of Racing Bulls in sixth, and Cadillac's first point in F1 now belongs to Aston Martin following Sergio Perez's 10-second time penalty.

  13. Antonelli extends title leadpublished at 14:42 BST 13 June

Now that Pierre Gasly has regained his third place podium in the Monaco Grand Prix, the top 10 of the drivers' championship looks a little bit different this week.

Kimi Antonelli is 66 points clear at the top of the pile following his fifth consecutive victory of the season in Monte Carlo, however, the teenager isn't one step ahead of Mercedes team-mate George Russell any more, he's now got Lewis Hamilton in second place behind him.

The seven-time world champion has jumped above his Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc and Russell after his back-to-back podiums in Canada and Monaco.

McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are back to being level on 58 points with Gasly's P3, while the Alpine driver goes above Red Bull's Isack Hadjar, who was originally on the podium, by nine points.

  16. Barcelona: Qualifyingpublished at 14:30 BST 13 June

    Hola! Welcome back.

It is a lovely sunny day in Barcelona.

Mercedes' George Russell topped the timesheet in third practice earlier today.

He will want to continue his form to cinch pole position in qualifying.

Valtteri Bottas crashed out of FP3 and the Cadillac team have been hard at work to get the car fixed in time.

Lights out for Q1 is at 15:00 BST.

  17. Report: Russell heads Piastri in final practicepublished at 12:44 BST 13 June

Mercedes' George Russell in final practice for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand PrixImage source, Getty Images

George Russell headed final practice at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix from McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.

Russell led the Australian by 0.214 seconds, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc third fastest ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris.

The first four cars were covered by 0.246secs, while Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari in fifth was 0.702secs back, and the seven-time champion was asking his engineer why he was “so far off”.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli was seventh fastest after not managing to complete a representative lap because of traffic.

The Italian was held up by gaggles of cars on two separate push laps towards the end of the session - once at Turn One and the second time at Turn 10.

McLaren appear to be in better shape than for the past two races on this track where tyre degradation is always an important factor.

But Red Bull, as they feared, are struggling in the long-duration medium and high-seed corners around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Mercedes are the pace-setters as usual, but the question before qualifying and race is whether McLaren or Ferrari can challenge them, and whether Antonelli can make up what appears to be a deficit to Russell at this track so far.

  18. Back for qualifying build-up from 14:30 BSTpublished at 12:44 BST 13 June

George Russell will feel confident going into qualifying this afternoon after topping third practice, but we've also seen his younger team-mate Kimi Antonelli pull a pole lap out at the last minute this season, so it could be a tight battle between the two Mercedes cars, plus the McLarens and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

But the hot temperatures and worries about tyre degradation will be front and centre in the pit lane later on.

Let's park the bus here for now, and then come together at 14:30 BST for build-up to qualifying.

    Q1 goes green at 15:00.

    See you shortly!
