Sometimes it's not possible to do all the best sectors, especially on a track like this where the tyres get hot throughout the lap.

But it was interesting in Monaco last week, Kimi Antonelli didn't have any of the fastest sectors on his pole lap either, but he still managed to get pole. And that was the first time anybody had done that since Lewis Hamilton back in 2021.

  5. Go! Go! Go!published at 15:48 BST 13 June

The 13-minute countdown for Q3 has started. Cars have lined up in the pit lane.

The TV camera panned to a fan sign which read "eat more pasta, so you drive more faster".

That is a top tier sign. Who will take pole?

Really impressed by Nico Hulkenberg getting into Q3. Really good job by him in the Audi.

I don't imagine he'll be battling for much higher than 10th, but I'm still excited to see where he can get to.

This is an exciting line-up heading into Q3.

There is a little over two minutes left of Q2. Time to put in some fast laps and make it to the final part of qualifying.

Lando Norris puts his McLaren into P4, a tenth behind George Russell.

    Oscar Piastri manages P7.

So, the story of qualifying so far is Ferrari, isn't it? How competitive they have looked. I mean, there's Charles Leclerc in second place and he's only five hundredths of a second behind George Russell, and Kimi Antonelli is very, very close behind Leclerc.

And Lewis Hamilton is only two tenths away from the fastest time, so really encouraging from Ferrari so far.

The top three are George Russell. Charles Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli.

It has not been a good session for the McLaren duo but they have bolted on a fresh set of soft tyres.

Just three cars out on track at the moment, the two McLarens and Carlos Sainz who will be hoping to get his Williams into Q3 for the first time in 2026.

Verstappen's reign at the top does not last long in Q2.

Charles Leclerc jumped to the top but again not for long.

George Russell is now the fastest driver out on the circuit, 1:15.228 for the Brit.

There should be a bit more action in this session because the top teams have all got four sets of tyres left, so they should be able to do, if they feel the need to, two flying laps in each of the next two sessions.

  20. Verstappen fastestpublished at 15:32 BST 13 June

Here comes Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

He has gone purple in all three sectors and sets a fast lap time of 1:15.484.
