  3. Postpublished at 11:54 BST 18 July

Isack Hadjar, Lando Norris, Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto are the only drivers on the medium tyres. Everyone else has the red softs bolted on.

Max Verstappen has completed a lap and goes second fastest behind Lewis Hamilton.

Of the current drivers on the grid, only two have won multiple times at the Belgian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton has won at Spa five times in 2010, 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2024 - equalling Ayrton Senna's record.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen won three consecutive races, between 2021-2023.

Charles Leclerc won his maiden race at the Belgian Grand Prix in 2019.

Oscar Piastri won last year's edition in the McLaren.

The only rookie this season, Arvid Lindbald, has just pipped Lewis Hamilton for the fastest lap time.

It does not last for very long, Lewis Hamilton completes his lap and tops the leaderboard again.

Max Verstappen has just left the pit to join the track.

  6. 'Russell will think he can turn this around'published at 11:49 BST 18 July

Mentally, Kimi Antonelli's form will be quite taxing on George Russell, but he's still within touching distance.

OK, right now, he's trailing his team-mate who is a lot younger and a lot less experienced but is mighty, mighty fast. But he's there. That's all George will be thinking about: I'm still within striking distance, I can still turn this around.

It is just the two Mercedes drivers and Max Verstappen who are yet to join the circuit in final practice.

Charles Leclerc is on an out lap at the moment, while his Ferrari team-mate has just set the fastest time in the first sector.

I think Isack Hadjar was in the way of Lewis Hamilton a little bit and I don't think Lewis will be too happy. He's gone fastest, but I think there is time to be found there for Lewis.

  9. Hamilton fastestpublished at 11:45 BST 18 July

There is a flurry of lap times on the board now.

Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari tops the timesheet now, with a lap time of 1:47.436.

Of all the current drivers, Hamilton has the most wins in Spa and the most pole positions.

It is all very chill in the Mercedes garage, Kimi Antonelli and George Russell are in no rush to get into their cars.

Oscar Piastri did not seem to have a good Friday practice but has his luck changed?

The Australian is second on the leaderboard now.

  11. Will there be yo-yo racing at Spa?published at 11:42 BST 18 July

    Andrew Benson
    BBC F1 correspondent at Spa-Francorchamps

I'm not sure about the yo-yo racing this weekend. It's defintely true that energy is an issue. Lando Norris commented yesterday: 'There is just a lack of deployment everywhere, every single straight. 'the worst one is through Blanchimont, we we go from almost 320km/h to almost 270km/h because we just have no battery left. Every single straight we're clipping.'

Clipping is the Formula 1 jargon for when the engine goes into recovery mode and starts charging the battery, rather than the battery deploying energy, so you lose half your power, basically.

But, that doesn't necessarily mean there is going to be yo-yo racing, because that sort of depends on the circuit characteristics.

Pirelli have opted for the middle selection of the tyre options for Spa-Francorchamps.

These are the C2 hard compounds, C3 medium and C4 soft tyres.

The green intermediate tyres and blue full-wets are also available, if they are needed.

  18. 'F1 drivers adore Spa-Francorchamps'published at 11:33 BST 18 July

    Sam Bird
Formula E driver on Sports Extra 2

What a track this is; it is one of my favourites and one of the favourites for all Formula 1 drivers - they absolutely adore this place.

It's a track that undulates, it's the longest track on the Formula 1 calendar, plenty of overtaking opportunities and it's just a real driver's circuit.

  19. Go! Go! Go!published at 11:31 BST 18 July

    All quiet on track.

The drivers are taking their time to get in their cars and put down some laps.
