Lewis Hamilton crashed his Ferrari right at the end of final practice at the Belgian Grand Prix.

The seven-time champion lost control on the exit of the Fagnes left-right midway around the lap, in a very similar way to how Alpine’s Pierre Gasly crashed on Friday.

Hamilton’s right-rear wheel smashed into the barrier, leaving the Ferrari mechanics a lot of work to do to repair his car for qualifying at 15:00 BST.

Ferrari say they will be able to complete the necessary work in time.

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli set the pace, continuing his impressive form from Friday, with a lap time 0.139 seconds quicker than McLaren’s Lando Norris.

The Italian’s time was set much earlier than the world champion’s. Norris is one of several drivers facing a 10-place grid penalty this weekend for using too many engine parts.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was third fastest, 0.148secs back, followed by Antonelli’s team-mate George Russell, who was 0.367secs off the pace.

Hamilton was fifth fastest ahead of team-mate Charles Leclerc.

Antonelli leads Russell by 25 points in the championship heading into the 10th race of the season.

  2. See you at 14:30 BSTpublished at 12:51 BST

Time to take a break, enjoy the sunshine and get some lunch.

We will be back at 14:30 BST to build-up to qualifying.

Kimi Antonelli was the fastest driver in final practice and will want to continue his form into qualifying and get pole position for Sunday's race.

Or will Max Verstappen pip him for pole position?

Elsewhere, Ferrari will be hard at work to get Lewis Hamilton's car back into the garage and fixed in time for qualifying.

Lights go green for Q1 at 15:00 BST and Lorraine will be back in the live text seat to take you though the session.

    See you then!

There was a little drama at the end of the practice session.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen had slowed down at the double yellow flags being waved but almost got into contact with the Williams of Carlos Sainz behind him.

That is a race against time to get that car ready for qualifying! Huge damage on the rear right for Lewis. He's had a bit of a twitch, oversteer, through the corner.

Ferrari are going to have to skip lunch today to get Lewis Hamilton's car ready for qualifying.

Hamilton lets his engineer know he is OK but the car is not in good shape.

Big damage for Lewis Hamilton! Rear wing is exactly the same as Pierre Gasly's yesterday!

Big shunt for Hamilton right at the close of third practice.

  14. yellow flag

    Yellow flagpublished at 12:32 BST

Oh no! In the closing seconds of final practice, Lewis Hamilton has a massive crash. He runs wide onto the gravel and clips his rear wing. The same as Pierre Gasly on Friday.

That is not ideal before qualifying!

McLaren would be a good fit for Max as his driving style suits the car.

    Paul, Epsom

You have to think the only worthwhile step for Verstappen would be a move to Mercedes?

    Peter, Thornhill

I'd rather see McLaren continue backing the drivers who helped return the team to championship contention. Oscar has earned the opportunity to fight for titles in papaya, and I don't think McLaren needs to disrupt that by signing Max.

I think Kimi Antonelli will be sat there quite happy. OK, he wasn't able to improve his time but he knows there are probably two, three, even four tenths in his pocket with that mistake.

Everybody seems to be struggle at Jacky Ickx, Turn Nine, at the moment, the left-hander. I wonder if the wind has changed direction and is forcing people to have a little bit of a lack of front end in that section of the track.
