  1. Norris closing in on titlepublished at 14:18 GMT 7 December 2025

    Lap 50/58

We've reached lap 50 and Lando Norris is holding firm in that third place. Charles Leclerc's attack threat has diminished, so the McLaren driver just needs to stay calm in these final laps and his maiden F1 title will be in the bank.

It's a little baffling with all their criticism and trouble that Charles Leclerc is banging in the same lap times as Oscar Piastri in the McLaren.

Verstappen: "Is Charles catching him or not?"

Engineer: "It is fairly equal pace Max."

    Lap 48/58

Lewis Hamilton has climbed from the back of the grid all the way up to eighth place after his couple of pit stops. He'll keep that sixth in the standings if he stays there, as Kimi Antonelli, two points behind him, is in 13th spot and out of the points.

I'm not seeing the super fast laps from Oscar Piastri that we would like to see.

I'm not getting ahead of myself, I've seen this before and there's only 11 laps to go, things happen.

Max Verstappen needs a bit of information from his pit wall: is Charles Leclerc gaining on Lando Norris? The pair are on equal pace, comes the reply, so the four-time world champion knows what that means. He may be leading this race but another victory in 2025 won't be good enough for Verstappen if Norris finishes third.

    Lap 46/58

The gap between race leader Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri in second if the Dutchman pits will be just 1.26 seconds. Lando Norris is 25 seconds behind the Red Bull but he only needs a podium place to be crowned champion tonight in Abu Dhabi.

Matt in Northampton: It's been a fantastic season, but I'd settle for an uneventful procession for the rest of this race. Bring it home, Lando!

Richard in Plymouth: Leclerc is the one to spoil Lando's day.

Engineer: "So Verstappen is on your pit stop window. He is doing 27.9"

Lando Norris is finding a bit of speed now, so Charles Leclerc will have to push a bit harder to catch the McLaren. Max Verstappen holds a 22-second lead over Oscar Piastri and now the Australian is asking his pit wall how can he win this race.

Engineer: "He's going to need to be 1.5 seconds quicker than you on every lap."

Another lap is complete and Lando Norris is clear of Charles Leclerc - just. Can the Ferrari man throw a spanner in the Briton's title ambitions? Or will the Briton keep hold of that all-important podium spot?

Nick from Wirral: Wait, Ferrari strategy might actually work? Surely not? Of all the times to do so. Medium v hard tyres and Leclerc's pace

Charles Leclerc is catching Lando Norris with every lap that ticks by on his medium tyres. Lando Norris needs to keep hold of this third place because if Max Verstappen wins and Leclerc passes Norris and drops to fourth, Verstappen will be crowned champion.

Oscar Piastri is in a podium place, though, so if that scenario above plays out, we could see some tense talks on the McLaren pit wall.

Max Verstappen is back in front of this race, as Oscar Piastri finally ditches his starting hard compound and opts for the medium tyre. The Australian comes out in second place, ahead of his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris. Charles Leclerc over at Ferrari is clocking fastest laps in fourth...

I assumed it was going to be Oscar Piastri that McLaren were calling in, but no he's still out there trying to hold up Max Verstappen.
