It looks like work needs to be done for Aston Martin and Cadillac.

Arvid Lindblad is also out in Q1, he didn't participate in the sprint earlier today because of a technical fault.

I was talking to Fernando Alonso this morning and he really does not like these new cars.

My question was, fundamentally, can you do a great qualifying lap any more, and he said no, because of the nature of the cars, and the battery charging.

I think Oscar Piastri can count himself as a very lucky boy there, because that was a bit too close for comfort.

Oscar Piastri, in 16th, gets himself into Q2. Phew.

Gabriel Bortoleto managed to get himself out on track for the final few minutes but did not set a lap time and is out of Q1.

There's smoke coming from his car, his left rear brake has caught fire. Not a good day for Audi.

Interestingly, according to the timing screens, both George Russell and Oscar Piastri went out on used tyres for these runs, which I don't understand, because you've got a lot of other drivers out on new tyres, including Antonelli, Russell's team-mate.

Unless the timing screens are wrong, which sometimes they are, that's a strange decision in my mind.

George Russell crosses the line and gets himself into the seventh spot for Mercedes. He's not very fond of this track.

His team-mate and current championship leader, Kimi Antonelli pops himself top.

Stephen: Aston Martin should be in F2. There used to be a set time limit. Aston Martin would get more competition in F2.

Things are definitely hotting up. The track will have had a lot of usage in between the race this morning and them going out now, with the support races, but the track itself has come in.

Audi have managed to get Gabriel Bortoleto out on track. He's got to give it his all to set a lap time and get himself into Q2.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen remains the fastest car.

Andy: Hamilton should retire at the end of this season. I understand that he still has 40-50 million reasons to continue every year, but he is completely destroying his legacy. Millions of his fans will be pleased if he retires before destroying his name completely.

  15. Postpublished at 21:12 BST 2 May

The TV cameras have shown Gabriel Bortoleto getting into his car. Will he join the pack for the rest of Q1? There's just over five minutes to go.

Just to explain what the gaps are like between team-mates: If you're two tenths of a second slower than another driver, he's better than you, but it's not the end of the world. But if they're three tenths of a second faster than you, then it's starting to get worrying.

Half a second, that's a big worry and nine tenths... you're toast!

Speaking of Nico Hulkenberg, he's the only driver out on track with a set of mediums bolted on. Everyone else has the soft tyres for qualifying.

10 minutes to go for Q1 as Kimi Antonelli puts his car in second spot now.

Alex Albon locks up going into Turn 11 but gets his car going again.

Nice Hulkenberg is out on track but when we last saw his car it was in bits in the garage - it totally caught fire on the parade lap to the sprint. Audi lost loads of time trying to recover the car and repair it from the fire damage.
