  1. 'Salah has Zlatan mentality'published at 19:43 GMT 9 December 2025

Inter Milan v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

    BBC Newsbeat

Mo Salah wasn't on the plane to Milan for the match tonight, but BBC Newsbeat took a trip to the area by John Lennon airport to speak to a few fans about what they make of what's going on between the forward and boss Arne Slot.

Emlyn, 20, who was named after Liverpool and England player Emlyn Hughes, says he thinks Salah is "one of the best players of the modern era".

He reckons if a player's not performing, he should be on the bench, but the whole team need to take accountability for the performances.

Emlyn's on Salah's side, as he says people "can't ignore what (he's) done for us over the last few seasons - it's unreal.” However, he can "sympathise" with Slot.

Fellow Liverpool supporter Rhys, 19, said he thinks Salah has got “Zlatan [Ibrahimovic's] mentality," in reference to the former Sweden and Manchester United player who often said he was the best, and even turned down an Arsenal trial saying he "doesn't do auditions".

"(Salah) needs to realise there are other people in that team that want that spot," Rhys says.

"I'd happily have Salah still. I can see in a few games his performance hasn't been there but obviously when he wants to be there, he can play".

  2. Will two wins secure Chelsea's last 16 place?published at 19:42 GMT 9 December 2025

Will two more wins be enough to seal Chelsea's automatic passage into the last 16?

The Blues have pocketed 10 points from five games, including three last time out against Barcelona.

Last season 16 points from eight games were enough to secure a top eight finish in the league phase.

Chelsea's last two matches after tonight are at home to Pafos, whose players include ex-Blues defender David Luiz, on 21 January and a return trip to Italy to face Napoli.

Enzo Maresca could do with his side having secured their place in the knockout phase before they face the champions of Italy on 28 January.

Inter Milan v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Things seemed to be on the up for Liverpool in the Champions League. They put five past Eintracht Frankfurt before a brilliant win over Real Madrid.

Then came PSV. They stunned Anfield and beat the Reds 4-1 on their own turf.

Another defeat tonight and qualification could be in jeopardy.

On paper, it should be a straightforward evening for Tottenham.

Slavia Prague sit 31st in the Champions League table and have not scored a goal in their last four matches in Europe.

They are winless in 12 matches in European competition (D5, L7).

  5. Have nerves settled at Spurs?published at 19:39 GMT 9 December 2025

Tottenham Hotspur's win against Brentford here on Saturday certainly lifted the mood after the toxicity of recent home games, especially the home defeat to Fulham.

Thomas Frank's side actually played well for an hour before losing 5-3 away to Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in their last European game.

Spurs currently lie 16th in the Champions League table so victory is essential tonight, which would also further relieve scrutiny on Frank.

Not really surprised at the Salah outburst as I thought his outbursts regarding wanting a new contract were over the top. I said to my football mates at the time maybe the club should get rid of him. They would have got a great price for him then.

  9. Spurs turning a corner at home?published at 19:32 GMT 9 December 2025

Tottenham v Slavia Prague (20:00 GMT)

Tottenham's home form of late has been patchy to say the least.

In 2025, they have played 17 Premier League matches, winning just four and losing 10.

Victory over Brentford at the weekend was their first league win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since victory over Burnley on the opening day of the season.

In the Champions League, things have been slightly better with a couple of home wins, two away draws and a brilliant effort last time out which ended in a 5-3 defeat by defending champions PSG.

The 18-year-old has three Champions League goals this season - more than any other Chelsea player.

Eight different Chelsea players have scored in the competition this season.

The Blues' second leading scorer in the Champions League this season with two? That was be Mr own goals.

Pep Guardiola on playing at the Bernabeu: "You can go to Nou Camp, Anfield, Old Trafford - they all have this mysticism. Real Madrid have won the competition a number of times."

He adds: "I have not talked to Florentino Perez and he has not told me it could be the last game for Xabi Alonso if they don't win. Xabi knows perfectly well what he has to do it and I know what rivalry we have."

Liverpool's problems go beyond Salah, but his lack of form is a part of the problem and he has no right to be selected automatically. His outburst is very self-indulgent and a time the focus should really be on playing system and team unity.

  16. Alonso knows 'it's difficult' at Realpublished at 19:12 GMT 9 December 2025

Real Madrid v Man City (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Shamoon Hafez
    Football news reporter in Madrid

Pep Guardiola on Xabi Alonso's situation at Real Madrid: "I have sympathy because we were together for two years and it was an incredible experience being with him.

"Barcelona and Madrid are the toughest clubs to be a manager, the pressure and environment. If I would have done last season here, I would have been sacked. It’s difficult but he knows it, he has been here.

"They have a lot of absences. I know what happens when you wanna build something. Of course he is capable to do it, what is required in that position."

  17. 'Liverpool is carnage because of Salah'published at 19:09 GMT 9 December 2025

Inter Milan v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on The Monday Night Club

Liverpool is carnage because of Mo Salah. He's been honest and open, but he's made it all about him and not the team. He's been extremely selfish - that's what he's done because now there's a bit of a civil war at Liverpool, and it didn't need to be like this.

What good could come out of what he did? What sickens me a bit about it is when Liverpool have been doing well, and players come out and speak, 'it's the team spirit, we all get on so great and everything's marvellous'.

And now we're seeing Mo Salah for what he really is. It's all about him. It's him being selfish. I hate that sort of stuff. I think he's really let himself down here.

It's all about who will go - will it be Slot or will it be Salah? And how is that beneficial for someone who loves the club so much?

  18. Michael Edwards in Milanpublished at 19:06 GMT 9 December 2025

    Aadam Patel
    BBC Sport in Milan

Well after the events of yesterday where we saw Mohamed Salah left out of the travelling squad before we spoke to Arne Slot and Alisson Becker at the press conference, it's been a relatively quiet day here in Milan.

I was at the Uefa Youth League game earlier where Inter Milan beat Liverpool 5-0 and bumped into Michael Edwards, the CEO of Football for Fenway Sports Group (FSG).

The fact he's made the trip over to Milan is interesting to say the least, given the noise surrounding the Salah situation and the future of Slot.

  20. Why Mathys Tel can be added to Spurs' Champions League squadpublished at 19:02 GMT 9 December 2025

Tottenham v Slavia Prague (20:00 GMT)

    Ask Me Anything

Tottenham have added forward Mathys Tel to their Champions League squad in place of injured striker Dominic Solanke - meaning he is available to face Slavia Prague.

The Frenchman was left out of Thomas Frank's initial European squad, as Spurs were restricted to a 22 players for having just five players classified as homegrown.

Clubs are able to make one change to their squad before matchday six of the league phase if an outfield player is ruled out for an extended period of time.
