Eberechi Eze talked about the mentality, belief and confidence all being there, but have we really seen it in the last few games?

Where Arsenal have really lacked is in the final third. City in recent times have looked slick and Arsenal have been anything but slick.

Eze coming back into the team tonight. It is a big night for him. If he fires, and he is in form, then Arsenal will be onto something.

  10. '40-year-old Neuer one of the best in the world'published at 19:56 BST 15 April

Bayern Munich v Real Madrid (20:00 BST, 2-1 agg)

    Raphael Honigstein
German football journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live at Allianz Arena

Manuel Neuer has not always been at this level in the last couple of years. It took him a long time to come back from the broken leg which he suffered in 2023.

Even before the first leg second half, against Real Madrid, he had moments where he was sloppy. Yes, he saved Bayern, but I think there is a difference to prime Neuer 10 years ago and this version of Neuer.

Even a 40-year-old Neuer is still one of the best keepers in the world and certainly the best keeper in Germany.

How can it be that this Manuel Neuer is not going to the World Cup with Germany? He is good, but he is not quite at his best any more unfortunately, which is natural.

The fans feel ready and there is such a special atmosphere. It takes something different for the fans to get excited, but when Real Madrid come to town after that first leg performance, then the fans are up for it. The fact that Bayern managed to win at the Bernabeu it gave them such a boost.

If you're an Arsenal player, what you want to hear and see from your manager is control. To some extent, Mikel Arteta's press conference was controlled.

Mikel Arteta was pumped up in many ways. I don't mind what he said, maybe I'm wrong, but the stuff he was saying was tongue in cheek.

At this stage of the season, all the players need is someone to reinforce that confidence. The way they have been spoken about in the last two weeks, people are potentially writing them off.

They have to remember what they have achieved this season. I wouldn't write this Arsenal team off.

Arsenal are a great side and I hope they go through to keep the flag flying, but staying in Europe will continue to hand Manchester City the advantage.

    Arsenal v Sporting (20:00 BST, 1-0 agg)

    Julien Laurens
ESPN journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think it is massive for Arsenal. I won't lie. When you go to the Etihad on Sunday, which will probably be the final of the season.

You need to get your confidence back a bit. If you lose 1-0 and qualify on penalties, that won't add to the feeling.

Whoever plays and whoever comes off the bench needs to have an impact. Then you can take that to the Etihad.

If it is a narrow qualification, if it is tricky, and you're under pressure, then I think that will have an impact on the game at the Etihad.

City will have watched you on the sofa after having a good week of training and resting.

  15. Will Gyokeres score against his former club?published at 19:52 BST 15 April

Viktor Gyokeres scored an incredible incredible 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting before joining Arsenal in a £64m deal last summer.

Since then the Sweden striker has found the net 18 times in all competitions for the Gunners.

Will Arsenal fans be doing the Gyokeres celebration tonight?

Mikel Arteta has stuck with the front three of Viktor Gyokeres, Gabriel Martinelli and Noni Madueke.

Whenever he has used them together it hasn't quite clicked. They started the loss to Bournemouth at the weekend as the Gunners struggled to create clear openings.

All three of the players like to run behind the defence which can lead to them making the same movement and can see them run into difficulties when teams defend deep.

Maybe tonight will be the night it clicks for them?

Will that picture of the Manchester City fan drinking 'tears' from a plastic water bottle with Arsenal's badge on it, external become the enduring image of the Gunners season?

TV cameras zoomed in on the fan during City's 3-0 win at Chelsea last Sunday which came a day after Arsenal's surprise home defeat to Bournemouth.

The Gunners lead the Premier League by six points but have played one more game than nearest rivals City, who they meet at Etihad Stadium on Sunday (16:30 BST).

"I don't think Arsenal have bottled it and if they do end up losing [the league] it is because Manchester City are a good side with quality," former Premier League striker Chris Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"But the Arsenal fans will view it differently and if he doesn't have the support of the fans then a decision will need to be made, so I do think it is make or break for him.

"They have to win the Premier League or Champions League or he will be a gonner."

  19. 'Sporting a different team with Hjulmand'published at 19:48 BST 15 April

    Arsenal v Sporting (20:00 BST, 1-0 agg)

    Julien Laurens
ESPN journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sporting missed Morten Hjulmand massively in that first leg when he was suspended.

It is a very different team with him, in terms of Hjulmand and Hidemasa Morita in midfield with the double pivot.

They have so much energy, and they compliment each other so well. Sporting will be better for it. How much better against Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice is hard to tell.
