Ruben Amorim came out with a startling comment about defender Patrick Dorgu when he spoke to the media ahead of Manchester United's trip to Crystal Palace.

He noted the Denmark wing-back's superb finish against Scotland earlier this month which briefly threatened to take his country to the World Cup at the expense of Steve Clarke's men.

Amorim couldn't help but compare it to the rushed finished against Everton on Monday that contributed to United's 1-0 home defeat against a side reduced to 10 men inside the first 15 minutes.

"What I feel, when I see them (Dorgu and Diogo Dalot) in training, they are doing so much better than in games," he said.

"Patrick, when I see him playing for the national team, he scored a great goal against Scotland. The decision he made under pressure was completely different to the decision he is making in our team.

"He needs to be calmer playing the game. You can feel the anxiety every time Patrick touches the ball. I can feel the anxiety.”

On facing a Man Utd team playing the same system: "It's a funny story. It's the third game within one week and always facing 3-4-3. It's an interesting challenge. We always know what we want to do, regardless of the opposition system. It's all about where we can find the spaces, how quick we can come away from tight areas. If we find the overloads and we are efficient, it will be crucial and we have a good chance to win the game."

There is a lot of speculation around Manchester United's January transfer plans.

United say they are not likely to do any business.

However, while sources have said nothing is likely to happen before Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui return from the Africa Cup on Nations, some kind of movement cannot be ruled out.

Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo are both wanting to play more often to press their World Cup aims with the Netherlands and England respectively, whilst some younger players, including Sam Mather and James Scanlon have been attracting interest.

If Zirkzee or Mainoo left, United head coach would want to replace them.

He is giving nothing away just now.

"I don't know what is going to happen in January," were his most recent comments on Friday.

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim on if his players have shown they can bounce back: "We improved the way we trained this week. We dropped the intensity in the last game and we tried to regain that. Palace play in the same system, it's going to be a man v man game. Intensity is important and we need to step up in that regard."

On his two changes from Monday: "It's the way you train. They trained really well, the others too. Then the tactical aspect. Mason Mount is really smart, gives us more possession. He is intense, he can score goals so is one more player to be near the box."

On the chance to move into the top six with victory today: "It's so important to win, but the most important thing is to be competitive in every single minute. The table now doesn't matter, we are too far from the end."

Daichi, Kamada, Adam Wharton and Chris Richards all come in, with Jaydee Canvot, Will Hughes and Jefferson Lerma dropping out.

After six defeats in seven Premier League games, last season's champions start today 13th in the table - 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.

So, a ridiculously early start for Manchester United fans to get to Selhurst Park in time for kick-off.

But why is this game starting so early?

Well, Palace-United was originally selected for live television coverage at 12:30 GMT on Saturday. However, Palace were playing in the Conference League away at Strasbourg on Thursday.

With the Premier League attempting to ensure teams have at least 60 hours gap between matches, the game was put back to 12:00 today.

Three games that were down to start at 14:00 - Aston Villa-Wolves, Nottingham Forest-Brighton and West Ham-Liverpool - have been pushed back to 14:05 to avoid any potential overlap.

I am not entirely sure how Crystal Palace have ended up playing in a Premier League game at 12 noon on a Sunday when they have played a Thursday away match in Europe.

The Premier League rule that prevents clubs playing away in the Champions League on a Wednesday and then at 1230 on a Saturday seemingly doesn't apply in the lesser competitions.

It is certainly not a great kick-off time for United fans heading down from Manchester.

Nevertheless, it is a beautiful morning in south London. Perfect for a great game.
