Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard reacts to the 3-2 defeat at Birmingham City

Coventry City boss Frank Lampard told BBC Radio CWR:

"The game, we should deal with. I always credit opposition and when Ipswich came to our place, they were at it, we were off it and they won the game.

"But this was on us because the game was there for us. The run of results they’ve had, I think you could see that it was there for us to take control.

“We had a lot of the ball, but we had a lack of urgency in how we moved it, so we have to take that one. The goals we conceded were poor goals.”

On Bobby Thomas’ red card: “I haven’t seen it, but if he’s done something and gets a red card, then we miss him for three games. And if he did do something, he shouldn’t have done it.”

All change again in the Championship this afternoon.

Middlesbrough's thumping of Southampton sees them move second and cut Coventry's lead at the top to six points after the Sky Blues lost 3-2 in a thrilling derby at Birmingham earlier today.

Wins for Preston and Millwall help them strengthen their grip on a play-off place, while Stoke and Wrexham move within a point of the top six.

Blackburn and Charlton both move a point further clear of Norwich in the drop zone with their draw at Ewood Park as the Canaries were beaten at home by the Potters.

Two good results on the road for Stoke this week with no recognised full-backs available. The kind of grit the Potters fans demand is being shown.

It was a good team performance, they were clinical, they took those opportunities and stuck those goals away.

Southampton have been truly dreadful. Not an ounce of passion in any of our players. We need some serious changes at the club and quick.

Middlesbrough had gone four-and-a-half games without a goal but this afternoon, knowing they needed to win to move back up to second, they scored four in just 22 minutes.

All the goals coming in the second half. Morgan Whittaker with two. Sam Silvera added a third and Alan Browne the fourth.

Southampton handed their biggest defeat of the season. Middlesbrough go second.

Caleb Taylor's late header wins it for Millwall.

The home side were denied time after time by the outstanding Swansea goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux before Mihailo Ivanovic finally beat him seven minutes before the break.

Having been second best for so long it was a surprise when Ben Cabango opened the second half by levelling for the visitors.

Vigouroux brilliantly kept out Jake Copper and prevented a Jay Fulton own goal before Taylor headed home in the 90th minute.

Millwall are back in the top six.

All over and all square at Ewood Park.

A brace apiece, too. Charlton's Charlie Kelman struck twice in the first half including from the penalty spot but Moussa Baradji's double for Blackburn rescued a point for the hosts.

A ninth home defeat for Norwich who miss the chance to move out of the Championship's relegation zone but it's back-to-back wins for Stoke who move up to eighth place.

Second-half goals from Sam Gallagher and Sorba Thomas get the job done for the Potters who may be back on track after losing five of their previous eight.

There is still a lot for Philippe Clement to put right at Norwich.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 16:55 GMT 4 January

    Norwich 0-2 Stoke

Jack Stacey and Mathias Kvistgaarden are on for Norwich in place of Josh Sargent and Kellen Fisher.

Stoke replace Ben Pearson with Steven Nzonzi.

We are almost done in Norfolk.

    Middlesbrough 4-0 Southampton

A very convincing return to winning ways for Middlesbrough after four games without victory.

Boro ended their seven-and-a-half hour wait for a goal by scoring four in the space of 22 minutes to dismantle Southampton in the second half and move into second, cutting Coventry's lead at the top to six points.

Boos from the away end as Saints' winless run extends to six games.

  15. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:54 GMT 4 January

    Bristol City 0-2 Preston

It's full-time at Ashton Gate and Preston have sealed a well-earned win at Bristol City.

Last season Preston came here not knowing their Championship status was under threat heading into the final day of the season.

But fast foward to today and goals from Lewis Dobbin and Alfie Devine lifts them to fourth and a point off second-placed Ipswich.

    Derby 1-2 Wrexham

A first win at Derby in almost 50 years for Wrexham, who hold on for victory at Pride Park.

Sam Smith and Matty James did the damage for the visitors with Ben Brereton Diaz's goal for the hosts not enough in the end.

Micah Hamilton almost scores just moments after coming onto the pitch and he really should have done. He meets it at the back post but misses the target.

A couple of late subs for the hosts. Micah Hamilton and Manchester City loanee Sverre Nypan are on for Hayden Hackney and Morgan Whittaker. An excellent day at the office for two of Boro's key players.

Four minutes added on at the Riverside. Four minutes too long for Southampton. They can very much start the team bus.
