Manchester United boss Marc Skinner has called on his side to "be more aggressive" in possession against Arsenal in their League Cup final four tie.

"The reality was [the last league game between us] became increasingly more difficult when we went down to 10 players, but up until that point we needed to be more aggressive with the ball, so that's what I expect in this game," said Skinner in his pre-match press conference.

The Red Devils will have to defy the form book if they are to secure a maiden League Cup final appearance, having not beaten Arsenal in their last six meetings in all competitions.

Skinner added: "I want us to show our qualities with the ball. We have unbelievable footballers, but that doesn't just come from the front.

"It comes from the back, from that confidence to build and be aggressive."

With three of the last four meetings between Arsenal and Manchester United ending goalless, Gunners boss Renee Slegers has urged her side to "take the next step" in Wednesday's League Cup semi-final meeting.

"I think at the Emirates last time we do create much more but we don't have that finishing edge or create a clear-cut chance that gives us the goal," said Slegers.

"We definitely want to take the next step at home at Borehamwood with the fans around us. "

She added: "It's going to be two good teams going against each other but there's definitely things we've been looking at that we want to apply in the League Cup."
