  1. What next for Kieran Trippier?published at 13:06 BST 10 May

Nottm Forest v Newcastle (14:00 BST)

The first weekend in May appeared to offer a glimpse into Kieran Trippier's future.

Former England international Trippier still believes he has plenty to give as a player, but he has his sights set on becoming a coach when he eventually retires.

It is easy to see why.

Although he did not feature in Newcastle United's 3-1 win against Brighton, the unused substitute certainly played his part at St James' Park.

It was Trippier who repeatedly barked words of encouragement and passed on instructions to team-mates while prowling the touchline.

Channelling his inner Jason Tindall, he even attempted to get in the ear of Pascal Gross at one point before the Brighton midfielder took a corner kick.

The 35-year-old Trippier did not look like a player who has an eye elsewhere as he enters the final weeks of his Newcastle career.

Trippier is understood to have an open mind about his next move, whether that is staying in England or playing abroad, and his three children will be a major consideration in his plans.

However, the defender has been focused on seeing the season out before sitting down to assess his options.

Fourth game in 10 days for Forest, nine players out injured. European semi final lost. An amazing run to drag us out of the relegation mess - but still need three points to be safe. I’m not sure we can collectively rouse ourselves today…

Despite the disappointment of a late defeat by West Ham, Everton's disciplined and organised approach away from home has stood them in good stead this season. They are firmly in the mix for European qualification – adding further edge to their run-in.

David Moyes' side have built one of the stronger away records in the league this season. They stay in games, manage key moments well and carry a threat on the counter-attack.

Some of the club gear is giving a serious retro vibe today.

Tough to know which kit to pick.

There are few moments as a football fan, or perhaps just as a Crystal Palace fan, when you can truly celebrate before the final whistle.

A year ago, as Ismaila Sarr swept home the third goal in the FA Cup semi-final, the crowd was already in party mode. On Thursday, Sarr gave the team a three-goal cushion once again in a semi-final, this time on aggregate. With 40 minutes to go, the fans were already celebrating on the road to Leipzig.

Many had their travel pre-booked and pre-planned after the 3-1 first leg. An optimistic gamble, from a fanbase usually grounded by pragmatism.

The fans have been blessed with many incredible nights at Selhurst Park over the past decade, and the Shakhtar game certainly must rank among the events to remember. A crowd in unison, fully invested in this squad.

Our first experience of a European campaign has been eye-opening. It was never likely to be all sunshine and rainbows, but it has been a grind. Ultimately, given the weight of fixtures, travel, and challenges, the aim is simply to make sure you reach the final 16 by any means, then the final eight, and so on.

There are no style points on offer, and the manner of victory isn't important - and in that sense, Palace have unquestionably succeeded.

A lot of credit for how the team has managed the knockout games goes to Oliver Glasner, who already has a Europa League medal to his name. That experience has shown in the knockout matches. Not every match has been the cleanest, but they have managed the ties well over the two legs and were never out of control.

Rayo Vallecano and Leipzig await. Thousands of Palace fans will be descending on East Germany, and it will be a spectacle to behold, with it all to play for.

I know Newcastle won 3-1 against Brighton last week, but it was a flatteting result and we still looked very shaky & nervous. I think Forest will be motivated by their cup loss & want to reinforce safety. I expect them to go for the win.

  7. Pereira and Forest the perfect matchpublished at 12:55 BST 10 May

Nottm Forest v Newcastle (14:00 BST)

Seldom has a manager settled as quickly at a club as Vitor Pereira has at Nottingham Forest. And a club facing relegation at that.

Pereira was hired in February as Forest's fourth manager of the season with the club battling relegation while also trying to compete in the Europe League.

Their European dream may be over, following semi-final defeat by Aston Villa, but their league form has been superb and it looks like they may have done enough to escape relegation.

Portuguese manager Pereira said last week that this is one of the best groups of players he has worked with and that is clear to see on the pitch while his name is already chanted from the terraces with gusto by the fans.

They have won their last three league matches by an aggregate score of 12-2 having struggled to find the goals all campaign before Pereira's arrival.

Victory today will see them safe.

Hall comes back in after Lewis Miley broke his leg in training earlier this week. It remains to be seen if Newcastle are lining up with a back five or if Hall has been tasked with playing out of position at right-back.
