    Northampton 2-1 AFC Wimbledon

Northampton have proved to be bit of a bogey side for Wimbledon and it's playing out that way again at the moment.

The Dons have only won two of their 18 EFL games against the Cobblers (D8 L8).

  2. 'An extra chance of a break away attack'published at 20:59 GMT 19 December 2025

    Crewe 1-1 Bristol Rovers

    Nathan Ellington
Ex-Bristol Rovers striker on BBC Radio Bristol

I would like to see Bristol Rovers keep two men up when defending corners, as it gives an extra chance of a break away attack for Rovers with Crewe down to 10 men.

If Bristol leave two men up Crewe will have to leave three as well - less threat in the box.

  3. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Northampton 2-1 AFC Wimbledon

Northampton are looking lively and searching for a third. Tom Eaves flashes a cross in from the left but it misses everyone.

Cameron McGeehan then has a pop from about 25 yards out but slices his effort high and wide of the target.

    Crewe 1-1 Bristol Rovers

A game that’s there to win now for Rovers but need to keep their heads and not get involved to give the referee a decision to make.

    Cameron McGeehan

The early pressure in this second half pays off!

A free-kick loops into the area, it's flicked on and somehow comes all the way through to Cameron McGeehan who does well to compose himself and fire home on the turn.

Wimbledon are furious and are convinced it should be disallowed for offside, claiming it flicked off Cobblers striker Ethan Wheatley before coming to McGeehan.

This is just the start to the second half the Cobblers wanted, they are taking the game to Wimbledon now.

Steve Evans remonstrates with fourth officialImage source, Shutterstock

He may be a changed man physically, as we heard earlier he's lost well over eight stones this year, but good to see Steve Evans has not changed completely.

Here he is in, er, conversation with the fourth official at Crewe...

In comes Terry Taylor's free-kick for Northampton but it's cleared. The Cobblers recycle and Ethan Wheatley's shot is deflected behind for a corner. Nathan Bishop is then out of his goal well to punch away for Wimbledon.

Home side well on top in these first few minutes of the second half.

An early attack for Northampton as Tom Eaves gets in down the left and tries to pick out Kamarai Swyer, but sees his cross blocked.

Moments later, Nesta Guinness-Walker is hacked down from behind by Nathan Asiimwe and the Wimbledon wing-back goes into the book.

  13. Northampton not meeting expectations...published at 20:44 GMT 19 December 2025

    HT: Northampton 1-1 AFC Wimbledon

    Tim Oglethorpe
    BBC Radio Northampton commentator

Northampton came into this game as favourites, and they haven't lived up to it so far in the first half.

They have been a bit lacklustre and have had a few silly little slip ups, one of which led to the equaliser from Wimbledon.

However, towards the end of the half it has looked upwards for the Cobblers going into half-time.

Emre Tezgel goes close for Crewe against Bristol RoversImage source, Shutterstock
    • Emre Tezgel had given Crewe the lead against Bristol Rovers after nine minutes but Rovers found a leveller three minutes later through Callum Morton. The Railwaymen end the half with 10-men as Adrien Thibaut was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident.
    • Cheltenham are a goal to the good at Barrow thanks to Hakeeb Adelakun's neat close-range finish at the far post from Jordan Thomas' cross. That's his first goal for the club.
    • James Gibbons' goal on the stroke of half-time has Cambridge ahead against Accrington. The U's can move up to fifth if they win this evening and Crewe do not...
  16. Can Dons end winless run?published at 20:38 GMT 19 December 2025

    HT: Northampton 1-1 AFC Wimbledon

Wimbledon are on their longest run without a league win (six games) since the 2022-23 campaign when they avoided relegation from League Two by five points.

The Dons endured an 11-game and seven-game winless streak that season.

Johnnie Jackson's side still need at least another goal to end that run tonight.

All square at the break and reasons for encouragement for both sides.

Conor McCarthy glanced home his first goal for Northampton to put the Cobblers ahead after 10 minutes.

But the lead only lasted six minutes as Marcus Browne levelled for Wimbledon at the second time of asking after Alistair Smith's shot was well saved by Ross Fitzsimons.

It's all to play for in the second 45 at Sixfields.

Northampton are just pushing towards the end of the half. A couple of crosses come in... a couple of crosses cleared by Wimbledon.

It's then floated forwards again to Ethan Wheatley, but he's in an offside position for the Cobblers.
