FT: Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport County

    Vicki Sparks
    Commentator on BBC Two

Are Boreham Wood set for another magical FA Cup run?

This was their third 3-0 win in the competition this season and this was deserved for Luke Garrard and his players.

    It's all smiles for them.

  2. goal

GOAL: Gateshead 0-2 Walsallpublished at 16:38 GMT 7 December 2025

    Aden Flint (49 mins)

The perfect start to the second half for the visitors!

It's a lovely shape on the free-kick from the left by Evan Weir and central defender Aden Flint turns the ball home from close range.

That could be Walsall safely in the hat for the third round.

    Gateshead 0-1 Walsall

Early on in the second period, Jid Okeke is hobbling and holding his back - this one looks a bit of a concern for the visitors.

Christian Fuchs has got a massive job on his hands.

They could have gone one up, or even two up here but those were their best chances.

They didn't get any more because Boreham Wood didn't allow them to have any.

Newport have got a big task staying up this season.

  5. SECOND-HALFpublished at 16:35 GMT 7 December 2025

    Gateshead 0-1 Walsall

We are back underway at a wet and windy Gateshead!

  6. Postpublished at 16:32 GMT 7 December 2025

    FT: Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport

    Mark O'Brien
Former Newport County defender on BBC Radio Wales

It's not that Newport lost, it's the manner in which they lost today. Newport looked like they had no answers to Boreham Wood, and it really doesn't look good getting embarrassed by a team in a lower division.

  7. 'They play with purpose in possession'published at 16:30 GMT 7 December 2025

FT: Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport County

    Paul Robinson
Former Leeds and England keeper on BBC Two

There's more dreaming to be done for Luke Garrard and his team. They are set up very well.

They were very rarely under pressure. They were impressive, going forward. They have talented players up front.

And, more often than not, they play with purpose when they have possession.

  8. 'Most the chances came for Walsall'published at 16:26 GMT 7 December 2025

    HT: Gateshead 0-1 Walsall

    Tom Heslop
Member of Walsall media team on BBC WM

I think we deservedly lead, most the chances came for Walsall.

They've been patient and haven't tried to force too many things out there.

Daniel Kanu is in fine form and tucked the penalty away with calmness.

They'll be looking to capitalise on the wind in the second-half and will be wanting to get that second.

National League side Boreham Wood sail through to the third round of the FA Cup, and it could have been even more comfortable against League Two Newport County.

Two goals in three first-half minutes saw Jeff King and Regan Booty finish clinically from close range, before Matt Rush drilled the ball in after the break.

It's the latest strong FA Cup run for Luke Garrard and Boreham Wood, who reached the fifth round three years ago.

Late in the match, you could tell that one eye had started to turn to the league for the EFL's bottom side Newport. Crewe Alexandra away on Wednesday is their next task.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:18 GMT 7 December 2025

    Gateshead 0-1 Walsall

Half-time in the north east rain and Walsall lead by a goal to nil at the break.

Dan Kanu's 25th minute penalty separates the two sides who have to contest with difficult conditions at the Gateshead International Stadium.

Jamille Matt and Aden Flint were guilty of spurning huge opportunities to break the deadlock for Walsall before Kanu's well-taken spot-kick.

Since then, Walsall have backed off to their non-league opponents, who have come into the game without really testing keeper Myles Roberts in the visiting goal at any stage.

Stay with us for the second half of this one.

  11. ADDED TIMEpublished at 16:17 GMT 7 December 2025

    Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport County

We are into four minutes that have been added on.

Boreham Wood have now brought on Jack Payne for Zak Brunt in midfield.

  12. INJURY TIMEpublished at 16:17 GMT 7 December 2025

    Gateshead 0-1 Walsall

There will be one minute of injury time at the end of the first-half of this one.

In it, David Ferguson goes in the book for Gateshead for hauling down Ryan Finningan, who for my money has been the best player on the pitch so far today.

  13. Postpublished at 16:16 GMT 7 December 2025

    Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport County

Enrico Souza, the top assist maker in the National League, has been a key part of Boreham Wood's dangerous attacking play in the FA Cup today.

He's been named as the Player of the Match.

One further change for the hosts as Luke Norris is on for Matt Rush up front.

  14. Postpublished at 16:15 GMT 7 December 2025

    Gateshead 0-1 Walsall

Wing-back Connor Barrett gets forward for Walsall for the first time in ages but his shot from a tight angle is comfortably gathered by Tiernan Brooks.

  15. 'Positives? Not many'published at 16:15 GMT 7 December 2025

    Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport County

    Paul Robinson
Former Leeds and England keeper on BBC Two

It's been disappointing all-round for Newport County.

The main thing that the manager will take from this are the lessons that can be learned.

    Positives? Not many.

  16. Postpublished at 16:13 GMT 7 December 2025

    Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport County

A tame finish into goalkeeper Nik Tzanev's hands is all that Zak Brunt can muster in the latest chance for Boreham Wood.

He really has deserved a goal today.

At 3-0 up and less than five minutes to go, the home fans will be thinking about who they might draw in the third round.

Since the goal, the visitors have really struggled to keep the ball, and have looked second best to their non-league opponents in the last 10 minutes or so in truth.

  18. 'Gateshead have had a bit more control'published at 16:12 GMT 7 December 2025

    Gateshead 0-1 Walsall

    Colin White
    BBC Radio Newcastle commentator

Before the penalty Walsall very much on top.

Since then, Gateshead have had a bit more control.

  19. Boreham Wood 'a level above'published at 16:11 GMT 7 December 2025

    Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport County

    Mark O'Brien
Former Newport County defender on BBC Radio Wales

Boreham Wood have looked a level above, and it's tough for me to say that, but Boreham Wood have just had their number today.

  20. Postpublished at 16:10 GMT 7 December 2025

    Gateshead 0-1 Walsall

A super recovery challenge from Priestley Farquharson stops a Gateshead break in its tracks.

The resulting corner for the hosts comes to nothing.
