    How have Carlisle missed that?

It would have been the perfect start to the second half for the National League side.

  6. 'A very strong performance' - Sadlerpublished at 18:31 GMT 7 December 2025

    FT: Gateshead 0-2 Walsall

    Walsall

Walsall boss Mat Sadler told BBC Radio WM: "I think in this round, and the round previous, we've seen two very, very strong performances.

"We probably should have scored more as well but it was a very pleasing performance - we get to the third round which was the objective and we want to try and get a good tie in the next round.

"We could have scored a couple more before the goal and maybe just stepped off it after the goal but [I] have to be pleased by the performance and result.

"Hopefully, if this goes out to our supporters who are travelling home now, incredible support. I don't know how you do it - stood in that rain, for that time was incredible, so thank you from us and please get home safe."

  7. 'Just not good enough' - Newport boss Fuchspublished at 18:29 GMT 7 December 2025

FT: Boreham Wood 3-0 Newport County

Newport County boss Christian Fuchs on BBC Radio Wales: "The first 15 to 20 minutes, we had some very good moments and should go 1-0 or 2-0 up in my eyes.

"But we were too passive in the first half, we didn't push forwards and we knew Boreham Wood are a good team. We just got sucked in to their way of playing and they took advantage.

"We were just not good enough. Now we need to put the focus on the league. We need to get ready for Crewe.

"It's an opportunity now to push forward in the league and I want to definitely see a different face from my team."

Before we go any further, let's get a bit of reaction to two of today's earlier ties.

  9. Postpublished at 18:26 GMT 7 December 2025

    HT: Blackpool 3-0 Carlisle

Blackpool had 60 successful final-third passes in that first 45 minutes. Carlisle had 20.

That tells the story of the problems that the hosts have created. They have been so much sharper in attack.

Carlisle came into the match with a brilliant unbeaten record of 11 matches.

Their boss Mark Hughes will be disappointed with how easily they look to be giving up that record.

  10. 'They need to be tighter'published at 18:22 GMT 7 December 2025

    HT: Blackpool 3-0 Carlisle

    Paul Huntington
Former Carlisle captain on BBC Radio Cumbria

At half-time the theme must be from Mark Hughes to get tighter in and around the box. They need to get closer all around the pitch.

You cannot afford to give good players space. If I was an experienced player I'd be saying that Carlisle need to get on with it, there's no time for them to feel sorry for themselves.

But it starts with Carlisle being more solid defensively.

    Blackpool 3-0 Carlisle

    James Phillips

Blackpool have been ruthless and provided moments of real quality.

Carlisle haven't done that - they've looked a little bit flabby.

They will need some Mark Hughes magic at half-time.

Left-footed players like Scott Banks, when they're playing on the right, they are hard to mark and deal with. And that's what he can do when he cuts inside and curls into the net.

Blackpool have been clinical with their finishing. They have looked dangerous all game, going forward.

Carlisle's midfielders don't want to track Emil Hansson - and that's where he comes alive in the final third.

He ran about 30 yards with the ball then - and what a finish by Ashley Fletcher.

It's nothing more than Blackpool deserve.
