    Arsenal 0-0 Brighton

Things have settled a bit since that early flurry, but it's still Brighton dictating the tempo.

After a prolonged period of Seagulls possession Manuela Vanegas gets to the byline on the left before driving a cross into Madison Haley.

She does well to bring it down in the box but she's surrounded by red shirts and the chance soon peters out.

Of course as I say that they register their first shot on target.

It came from a nice move down the left that was eventually worked inside to Mariona Caldentey on the edge of the box.

With few options the Spaniard went for goal herself and forced a decent save out of Chiamaka Nnadozie down to her left.

Arsenal haven't hit their stride yet at all.

Eight or so minutes in and they've hardly had the ball in the Brighton half.

Arsenal are causing their own problems here by playing silly football when trying to get out of their defensive third.

They are getting turned over by Brighton's high press. They are winning those balls and causing Arsenal problems at the minute.

It's been a very, very promising start from the visitors, the only thing missing really has been a finishing touch.

Full-back Manuela Vanegas is the next player to take aim but she scuffs her shot slightly and it's a routine gather for Daphne van Domselaar.

The FA Cup is my favourite competition because the beauty of it is the underdog can always win.

Brighton have claimed results against Arsenal previously, so it's all about what happens on the day.

It will have to be a fast start for Brighton because they cannot let Arsenal gain control or momentum early on.

  7. CLOSE!published at 13:05 BST 5 April

    Arsenal 0-0 Brighton

Another chance for Brighton as the resulting corner drops to the feet of Charlie Rule just shy of the penalty spot.

She has two goes at the target but they're both blocked off the line and Arsenal eventually scramble it away.

  8. SAVE!published at 13:04 BST 5 April

    Arsenal 0-0 Brighton

Jelena Cankovic drives forward into the Arsenal half and sees the space open up in front of her.

She duly answers the invitation to shoot with a well hit drive but Daphne van Domselaar is equal to it.

    Arsenal 0-0 Brighton

Nervous moments early on for the Brighton defence as Stina Blackstenius tries to get on the end of a cutting Frida Maanum through ball.

Moeka Minami prevents her getting the shot away as they both fall to ground, but the offside flag is up shortly after anyway.

The message from Brighton boss Dario Vidosic ahead of this afternoon's FA Cup quarter-final against Arsenal was simple: "Let's create history."

The Seagulls have twice reached the semi-final stage of this competition in 2021 and 2023, but fell short on both occasions, and Vidosic says that his side are fuelled by the goal of reaching a first major final.

"If we can get a positive result it takes us one step closer to what’s the funnest day: a cup final at Wembley," said Vidosic.

"The girls should be excited by this challenge. They are facing one of the best four clubs in Europe. That alone should give us energy. "

He added: "We always talk about trying to be the first team to make that history for the club and bring the first piece of silverware. We know in every single competition that it’s very tough, but we will prepare well and we can go there confident."

It's been a busy few weeks for Arsenal as they continue fighting on three fronts heading into the business end of the campaign.

They're one step closer to defending their Champions League title after advancing to the semi-finals in midweek, they have games in hand on their WSL rivals in the race to qualify for Europe next term, and now attentions turn to the FA Cup.

Head Coach Renee Slegers says that today's quarter-final against Brighton is "the big challenge so far" as her players look to claim this trophy for the first time in a decade.

"I think I said it post-match after the Chelsea game that this was probably the biggest challenge so far in the season from a scenario perspective.

"It’s ten years for us [since Arsenal won the FA Cup], so we’re well aware.

"It’s going to be a very important game for us. We have to finish the job and keep on going and never stop."

This will be the third Women’s FA Cup meeting between Arsenal and Brighton, with the Gunners emerging victorious from the previous two.

Most recently they beat the Seagulls 3-0 in the 2021 semi-finals, with Beth Mead, Kim Little and Leah Williamson all on the scoresheet.

    Charlton v Liverpool (14:30 BST)

After their dismal start to the season, things have finally come good for Liverpool.

Gareth Taylor's side are unbeaten in their last four games and they've moved a significant eight points clear of the relegation zone.

They will be hoping to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup for a second successive year after beating Arsenal in the last-eight a season ago.

  17. 'I'd have bitten your hand off'published at 12:45 BST 5 April

    Charlton v Liverpool (14:30 BST)

Hardly anyone was talking about Charlton Athletic being title contenders before the WSL 2 season began.

So it is no surprise manager Karen Hills feels it would be "one of the greatest achievements of her career" if they were to gain promotion.

With two games remaining, her side sit in second place, level on points with leaders Birmingham City and separated by goal difference.

And they're into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, too.

"If you'd have told me in pre-season this is where we would be at this point, I'd have bitten your hand off," Hills told BBC Sport.
