Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz on why Liverpool seem to play better in the Champions League: "I think we had good games in the league, but that shows maybe that the Premier League is a tough league, anyone can beat anyone.

"Champions League nights are always a bit different, you meet different clubs from different countries with different play style. Until now we have enjoyed it, now we are looking forward to facing PSG tomorrow."

Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz: "We have shown this season we are good in big games. Especially in Champions League games. The last round against Galatasaray was not easy, they are a good team. We believe in ourselves.

"We have a good group with good characters and great players and a good manager. He tries to prepare us well for the game. We believe in ourselves, we have the second game at home which is maybe an advantage. We try to do our best, believe in ourselves and get a good result for Anfield."

Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz on Virgil van Dijk saying that Liverpool gave up against Manchester City: "I didn't know that Virgil said this. I would not agree directly because we still tried to create chances and turn the game around.

"Of course when the game gets longer and it is in the 80th minute and you are 3-0 down, it is mentally difficult to go and go and go.

"We tried to give our best in the game - also when it was 3-0 and 4-0. I think we also had a few chances then. This is not our standard, to lose 4-0 to City, we wanted to go through the round. Next year we want to go better."

Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz on the season: "Of course we wanted to have a better season. We had some goals this season, of course the team won the Premier League last season.

"That was the aim for this season as well, but we are still in the Champions league, there is still something to play for. Qualification for the Champions League next season. We still have some goals we want to achieve. We wanted it to be better, but there is still something to play for."

  12. Will Isak feature for Reds?published at 18:34 BST 7 April

PSG v Liverpool (Weds, 20:00 BST)

    .

Alexander Isak has not played since 20 December after surgery on a damaged ankle but has travelled with the Liverpool squad to Paris and could feature at some point.

Isak scored for Newcastle against PSG at the Parc des Princes two seasons ago but is unlikely to start on Wednesday after such a long spell out.

However, the presence of the £125m club record signing on the bench will be a boost for Slot, who could also recall Jeremie Frimpong and Alexis Mac Allister to the midfield.

Slot has to decide whether to stick with out-of-sorts Mohamed Salah, who missed a penalty at the weekend, while Hugo Ekitike, 23, will be desperate to impress against his former club.

The France forward spent two seasons at PSG but was limited to just 12 league starts before joining Eintracht Frankfurt in 2024.

After Saturday's hammering at the hands of Manchester City, the last thing Liverpool need is a trip to face the reigning European champions.

Paris St-Germain thumped Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate in the previous round and also knocked Arne Slot's side out of the Champions League last season.

That came on penalties after 1-0 away wins in both legs. Given Liverpool's recent form, not too many people are expecting it to be so close this time around - it's up to the Premier League champions to prove otherwise.

What does Slot make of the position the Reds find themselves in and how important is this tie in terms of his future at the club? We should find out shortly as he speaks to the media in Paris...

After romping to the Premier League title with a month to spare last season, this year has been a real struggle for Liverpool.

That FA Cup quarter-final loss at Manchester City was their 15th of the season, you have to go back to 2015-16 under Brendan Rodgers for the last time they lost more games in a single campaign (18).

Since the start of March, Arne Slot's side have played seven matches and lost four of them. Paris St-Germain have only lost four Ligue 1 games all season.

  15. Feeling the heatpublished at 18:22 BST 7 April

PSG v Liverpool (Weds, 20:00 BST)

    .

It's been a red hot spring day in Paris and Arne Slot is certainly feeling the heat after Saturday's capitulation in the FA Cup which has left Liverpool facing a trophyless season unless they win the Champions League.

The message from inside Liverpool has always been consistent. Slot retains the support of the owners and there is no indication that the club is planning to get rid of the Dutchman at this moment in time.

However, Slot is under pressure to deliver a response on Wednesday.

Slot accused his players of lacking "fighting spirit" against Manchester City, while captain Virgil van Dijk said the team "gave up".

The team simply has to respond against the European champions.

Will it get worse before it gets better for Liverpool and Arne Slot?

Some of Liverpool's best performances this season have come in Europe.

In November, they beat Real Madrid after losing six of the previous eight games.

The following month they tasted victory in Italy against Inter Milan having won just one of their previous six games.

And in January, on their last visit to France, they came away with a 3-0 victory against Marseille after failing to win in four of the previous five games.

As mentioned in that opening entry Arsenal are at Sporting while Real Madrid host Bayern Munich in a tasty-looking tie.

Arsenal are still very much in the hunt for an impressive double as they sit top of the Premier League and are in the Champions League quarter-finals, but they have had a bit of a wobble lately.

Defeat to Manchester City in the EFL Cup final was followed by a surprising loss to Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup.

Will they get back to winning ways and boost their confidence with a victory at Sporting tonight?
