Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk:

"For the players, it was important to get the result and it was a good way for us to win as a group. If I was to pick a way to win the game for the development of the group, it would be something like this.

"It was a game that was difficult. We played well in the first half, but we didn't get our reward. Then a lot of things we talked about during the week when things aren't going our way, we have to stay calm, stay together, do our jobs, stay focused and have trust.

"If we don't win the game early, we can win it late.

"It was a good way to win the game – clean sheet with a good impact from the bench and strong resilience."

Same story every week. Saints start well but every half-time team talk, and every substitution just makes things worse. We take our best player off and lose shape, momentum, confidence and discipline. The biggest threat to Southampton is Southampton.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent:

“The first half was poor. We took 45 minutes to get going, but it was a much-improved performance in the second half, when we were by far the better side but didn’t put the ball in the back of the net.

“It was a poor piece of defending to concede the goal and after that we didn’t make good enough decisions and stopped doing the things that had made us a good side in the second half.

“With the level of performance and the amount of chances we created, we definitely should have won the game.”

Stoke City manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke:

“The performance was good enough, first half especially, I thought we were really good and should have been 2-0 up.

“We didn’t take those chances and gave the opposition the encouragement to remain in the game when we should have put it to bed.

“They smelt that and came out in the second half to put us under a lot of pressure to start with, but we also put ourselves under pressure with a lot of strange decisions, but had a brilliant goalkeeper who made a great save.

“When we needed to, we defended properly and saw the game out.”

Sack Manning, Knapper, Webber and Adams tonight. Play the youth team at least they might show some effort and won't have been coached by Manning. We want our Norwich back.

    Watford

Watford boss Javi GraciaImage source, Shutterstock

Watford manager Javi Gracia speaking to BBC Radio Three Counties:

"From my point of view we played very well most of the game. When you have clear chances and don't score one goal against the league leaders it is not easy.

"I am happy with my team as they showed a good attitude and dominated the game. In the second half with one player less we conceded no shots on target and we were able to score a goal.

"If we control a little bit better the first half we could have had a result. We had two 'one v ones' with Rocco [Vata] but their keeper made great saves. You have to finish with composure and finish well.

"If we want better results we need to be more constant. But today we could see a team. With some mistakes that penalise us, yes. But a real team."

    Coventry

Frank Lampard raises his arms in celebrationImage source, Shutterstock

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard speaking to BBC Radio CWR:

"It was a difficult game against good opposition with lots of pace, lots of transition threat and lots of quality. If you'd offered me that (3-1) this morning against Watford I would have taken it so I'm happy.

"Carl Rushworth made some great saves for us. That is what he is there for and it is great to see a continuation of his form. We did a lot of damage in the first half but they are a counter attacking team.

"We had to be a bit careful in how we played but we had to take the sting out of the game. We want to win games. If you get loose against good opposition they are dangerous.

"Six wins, 12 unbeaten but don't get used to it like it is nothing. We can improve for sure but we need to continue. As easy as you go on these type of runs it can go on the reverse. We have to control it and keep working."

The Saints players should be ashamed of how they're letting the fans, the club, the manager and all the staff down. This is what minimum effort gets you, scared to tackle, no forward pressing. Just slow and cumbersome all over the pitch.

Coventry's lunchtime win over Watford has opened up a three-point lead over Middlesbrough, who were held at home by Wrexham.

Millwall are only two points back in third after beating Leicester while Bristol City and Stoke complete the top-five after wins over Birmingham and Portsmouth this afternoon.

Charlton and Hull shared the points at the MKM while QPR lost ground with defeat at Derby.

At the other end Sheffield Wednesday remain on -6 points after entering administration and falling to a 2-1 home defeat to Oxford United and they are joined in the drop zone by free-falling Norwich, who went down at Swansea, and Steel City rivals United, who lost at Preston last night.

Blackburn's first home win of the season took them above the dotted line and within a place of their beaten opponents Southampton, who have won just one of their past 11 games to pile the pressure on Will Still.

    FT: Middlesbrough 1-1 Wrexham

    Barry Horne
Former Wales and Wrexham midfielder on BBC Radio Wales

I think Wrexham will be happy with that result, I think they would have been happy before the game with a draw, and if I'm being honest with the way the game planned out they will be happy with it now.

Despite having the lead Middlesbrough dominated possession in the first half, and was very flat from Wrexham, and created few chances. Wrexham defended really well.

We said at half-time Rob Edwards need to change something, he made a big change at half-time and his team were unrecognisable.

An extraordinary game comes to an end.

Blackburn pick up their first home win at the sixth attempt and are out of the drop-zone at the expense of Sheffield United, Southampton remain bang in trouble at the wrong end of the table, just one place above Rovers.

Leo Scienza's solo goal put the Saints ahead but late goals from Ryan Albiosu and Andri Gudjohnsen turned the game on its head before Wellington's late red card saw the Saints finish with 10 men.

Delight for Valerien Ismael but Will Still's post-match interview should be worth listening to.

    What a game that was.

Swansea come out as victors, and it's more misery for Norwich.

When the home side scored through Zan Vipotnik inside the first six minutes it seemed as if Norwich might capitulate altogether.

But then the fightback begun with Jovon Makama getting an equaliser before the half time break.

Vipotnik wasn't finished there, though. He got the ball 25 yards out from the Norwich goal and absolutely put his laces through it, firing beyond Vladen Kovacevic, and sending the Swansea fans loopy.

Now it's a long painful journey home for Norwich fans as they rue missed chances and ponder what on earth the club can do to stop the rot.

A point gained, or two dropped?

Boro were dreadful in the first half and Josh Windass' deflected strike put the Red Dragons ahead early-on.

But after a raft of changes at the break Boro did improve and Hayden Hackney's late header ensured a point, though they fell short in a grandstand finish trying to complete the turnaround.

Bristol City have won three on the bounce!

They rode their luck at times with Birmingham carving out plenty of chances early on.

But it was Sinclair Armstrong who slotted home just before the half time break to score his first goal for 34 matches.

Birmingham fought hard, bringing on all their subs in a search for a way back.

Demarai Gray made a huge impact setting up several golden opportunities for the Blues, but it wasn't to be.

Back-to-back wins and back-to-back clean sheets for Derby County.

Carlton Morris' early tap-in proved the difference though John Eustace's side hit the woodwork a couple of times through Max Johnston and Ben Brereton-Diaz and spurned another couple of good chances too.

QPR offered very little in attack with no shots on target and Richard Kone's header flying over.
