"We were expecting a difficult match because they needed to win. They are brave playing forward. Trying to get in individuals duels with us.

"In Europe, with the experiences we have, we know how difficult each match is. Today, playing 90 minutes, creating this energy with our supporters is something we can feel as a competition where we can be protagonists and get something."

On the academy players: "It is necessary to give them chances and those three players play, George and then Jamal and Kadan, I think it's a good opportunity for them, they played getting experiences and played like we need in the plan we have with them.

"To get a victory, to play with some players like them and creating in this competition something with our supporters feelings for it I think is very important."

    Nottingham Forest

Finally from Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche, speaking to TNT Sports: "Different competition and different team, with all due respect, we should be looking like a Premier League team. That doesn't mean you win, but we should have authority over how we go about our business.

"I was really pleased with that tonight. There was that authority being a good Premier League outfit, a good squad of players and delivering a proper performance.

"Look, the Premier League is the bread and butter. The club I saw this club for years and years try get back in the Premier League, so they did. Last season was a superb season which got us into this competition. I think we made it clear we want to do well in it.

Given the strength of mid-ranking PL teams, they must be favourites to win the Europa League now. No Champions League teams drop down into it at the knock-out stage. Good for Premier League teams looking for a trophy but does it devalue the competition?

Nottingham Forest's attacking ranks have been bolstered by the addition of 6ft 7in Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca, who has joined on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy in the summer.

The 25-year-old striker has five caps for Italy but has struggled for form this season under Antonio Conte.

Lucca scored 14 goals for Udinese last season, but has had limited game time with the Italian champions.

He has scored once in 16 Serie A appearances for Conte's side - although he has made just four starts - and netted once in the Coppa Italia.

Lucca has had to wait for his Forest debut, though, and was ineligible for tonight's match.

He can be added to the squad ahead of the knockout phase so could still have an impact for his new side in Europe this campaign.

But he'll have to displace the in-form Igor Jesus first.

  8. 'Pleased with McAtee' - Dychepublished at 22:35 GMT 29 January

    FT: Nottingham Forest 4-0 Ferencvaros

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche, speaking to TNT Sports: "It has not been easy through various games, the schedule, planning, travelling and all that sort of stuff. To come out of a disappointing one in Braga and then to deliver that I am very pleased. I said last time I want them to lay a marker down and put constant doubt in my mind.

"It has been very difficult, but I am really pleased and I am pleased for the supporters as well to enjoy that.

"Pleased with him [James McAtee] we have been speaking to him trying to play with freedom. I thought Dan Ndoye was super sharp tonight. Some of the games hasn't been where he [McAtee] wants to be or where we want him to be. Tonight, he was and I am pleased for him. He has been putting the work in without a doubt.

"In all these games, particularly the Premier League, if your framework is not good you can get opened up, but it is equally coming off that to play with freedom. They're has been good signs recently and good signs tonight."

Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers, speaking to TNT Sports about how much belief Unai Emery's record in the Europa League gives the team: "He knows how to get his way through a competition, especially this one. To have him in our corner guiding us through it is going to be massive.

"Ultimately, it's down to us and how we apply ourselves, how we take each games, how we try and win games. And it's each round, there's so many good teams in the competition, so it's about taking each game as it comes and being at our best."

I love that Unai used the subs without panic. Even at 2-0 down he made the changes where they were needed instead of flipping the team on it's head. Not a Villa fan but I love his game management.
