  1. 'The first half was crazy'published at 20:57 GMT 18 March

FT: Barcelona 7-2 Newcastle (agg 8-3)

    Barcelona

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick: "The first half was crazy. It was up and down, second half we made it much better. We wanted to keep the ball and to control the ball. The third goal from us before half-time was important to us. We came back into the game and it was good.

"In the first half we played a lot of balls directly in the offense and we lost balls. Against this team who have a lot of speed and transition, that wasn't a good solution. In the second half we had to control more and keep them locked."

  2. Why Trippier's yellow card was the right decisionpublished at 20:57 GMT 18 March

FT: Barcelona 7-2 Newcastle (agg 8-3)

    Darren Cann
    Former Premier League assistant referee

Why Newcastle's Kieran Trippier wasn't sent off when he conceded a penalty at the end of the first half:

The penalty and yellow card is the correct decision. The holding offence was clear and sustained and, unfortunately for Newcastle, had to be penalised.

The yellow card was given on the basis that there was doubt as to whether Raphinha would’ve 100% got to the ball. For it to have been a red card for a Denial of an Obvious Goalscoring Opportunity (DOGSO), one of the criteria that needs to be met is ‘likelihood of (the fouled player) keeping, or gaining, control of the ball’.

I don’t think Raphinha would’ve got the ball - it always felt a bit too far ahead of him, particularly given the pace of the cross.Had the highly-rated referee, Francois Letexier, felt that Raphinha would’ve 100% got on the end of the cross, it would’ve been a red card for DOGSO. But, just like the ref, I don’t think Raphinha would’ve - definitely - got to the ball without the pull from Trippier, and therefore the yellow card and penalty is the correct decision.

  3. 'You make errors, you get punished'published at 20:56 GMT 18 March

FT: Barcelona 7-2 Newcastle (agg 8-3)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle goalscorer Anthony Elanga: "Today it was the errors that cost us really. The support we had from the fans was amazing. Proud of the lads of how far we’ve come in the competition. A shame we went out the way we did but we can reflect on our errors and work on them for Sunday.

"Even in the last bit I thought there might have been a penalty. If the referee gives one he has to give the other right?

"We played really well in the first half I think we could’ve built on that in the second. We can’t change it now. It happens in football. You make errors, you get punished, especially against teams like Barcelona. Everyone can make mistakes but we can’t focus on it too much."

"On a personal level, it’s nice to score. For me, I want scoring goals to turn into something to help the team, that's something I can build on. Disappointed about the way we lost and the manner we did, especially in the goals we conceded. Can’t dwell too much, we just have to look to the future."

  4. 'We got a schooling'published at 20:55 GMT 18 March

FT: Barcelona 7-2 Newcastle (agg 8-3)

Former Newcastle defender John Anderson says Eddie Howe's side were 'schooled' by Barcelona earlier tonight.

Hear Anderson's reaction at the full-time whistle on BBC Radio Newcastle below:

  5. 'No time to dwell'published at 20:54 GMT 18 March

FT: Barcelona 7-2 Newcastle (agg 8-3)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Edddie Howe: "Tough way to go out. Really strange to sum that up. First half we were excellent, albeit both halves we didn't defend properly in key areas. In the second half we weren't as good.

"Psychologically, it was a tough one for the lads. They had that penalty right before half-time and scored quite quickly after half time and psychologically, we didn’t recover."

On the penalty: "I’d need to see it again when I'm in a more controlled state before giving an opinion on it."

On Barcelona: "It’s hard to play against them but in the first half we controlled it relatively well. A lot of counter attack opportunities, great representation of how we play. First goal to players positioning, second was a set play. Among all the good play we gave them two goals."

"We have a massive game on Sunday [at home against Sunderland] so no time to dwell or feel sorry for ourselves. Huge game for our city and club, we need to focus on that."

For those just joining us, it was a painful second half for Newcastle earlier on as they conceded five goals after the break to lose 7-2 to Barcelona, who sealed an 8-3 aggregate success...

  7. Anfield is stunnedpublished at 20:52 GMT 18 March

HT: Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray (1-1 agg)

    Aadam Patel
    Football Reporter at Anfield

It's such an unusual penalty from Mohamed Salah. He usually puts his foot through the ball and Anfield is stunned. That could have been Salah's 50th Champions League goal. Liverpool have been so so wasteful.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:52 GMT 18 March

    Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray (1-1 agg)

Liverpool should be leading this tie but instead, it's all level going into the second half.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:51 GMT 18 March

    Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray (1-1 agg)

Florian Wirtz skips past a couple of Galatasaray players and feeds Mohamed Salah. He strikes first time and Ugurcan Cakir saves but pushes it into the path of Wirtz, who forces another save.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:51 GMT 18 March

Tottenham 1-0 Atletico Madrid (3-5 agg)

Tottenham are back in this tie and deservedly lead on the night, thanks to Randal Kolo Muani's downward header.

But Spurs need two more goals to take it into extra-time, but they have at least given themselves a chance.

    What a save.

It's a top save from Vicario and that's what he's capable of. He was committed for the right reason and the deflection looks like it's going to roll over him.

All Tottenham's work looked to have been undone but he sticks a flailing arm up, wow.

  12. 'It is a poor penalty'published at 20:50 GMT 18 March

That is half a Panenka. He tried to do that side-foot into the goal, but Mo Salah gets the execution wrong. It is a poor penalty.

  13. Postpublished at 20:50 GMT 18 March

That is a huge moment in this tie.

  14. MISSED PENALTY - LIVERPOOLpublished at 20:49 GMT 18 March

    Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray (1-1 agg)

Mohamed Salah goes low to his right and so does Ugurcan Cakir.

    It's a dreadful penalty.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:49 GMT 18 March

Bayern Munich 1-0 Atalanta (agg 7-1)

Half-time at the Allianz Arena and, as it stands, Bayern Munich are cruising into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

  16. PENALTY - LIVERPOOLpublished at 20:48 GMT 18 March

    Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray (1-1 agg)

Dominik Szoboszlai drops to the deck after getting to the ball first. Ismail Jakobs gives him a clip on the shin and the referee points to the spot.

    Big, big moment coming up.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:47 GMT 18 March

Tottenham 1-0 Atletico Madrid (3-5 agg)

Close for Atletico Madrid as ex-Manchester City man Julian Alvarez strikes with power, it nicks up off Pape Matar Sarr with the ball skimming the top of the goal.

The Spanish side almost score from the following corner too. Giuliano Simeone, son of boss Diego, hits it well, it deflects off the head of Cristian Romero and that is almost enough to take the ball past Guglielmo Vicario.

But the keeper shows brilliant reflexes to fling up an arm and make a top-class save to keep Tottenham ahead on the night.

  18. INJURY TIMEpublished at 20:46 GMT 18 March

    Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray (1-1 agg)

Into five minutes of additional time we go at a ferocious Anfield.

  19. 'Liverpool in full control'published at 20:45 GMT 18 March

    Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray (1-1 agg)

    Paul Robinson
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield

Liverpool are in full control of this game. They need to be patient, and they don't need to take any risks. They are in complete control.

  20. Postpublished at 20:45 GMT 18 March

    Liverpool 1-0 Galatasaray (1-1 agg)

Another one sits up nicely for Dominik Szoboszlai but he doesn't connect as he'd like. Liverpool recycle the ball as Jeremie Frimpong fizzes one low into the box but Mohamed Salah can't react.
