An utterly emphatic win for Barcelona. The team stands arm in arm in front of their ultras who've not stopped supporting for 90 minutes.

It's in stark contrast to the Newcastle players who have headed to the other side of the pitch, beneath their supporters, to thank them for their support.

Barcelona's Champions League dreams remain very much insight.

It will be a long night of celebrating here in Barcelona.

For a game and half Newcastle were in the tie but on paper it's an absolute hammering.

In the second half Barcelona just went up through the gears and it was a sorry end for Newcastle.

Another disappointing night for a Premier League team.

The referee has decided he's seen enough. No time added on and he blows the whistle for full time.

A brilliantly entertaining first half which was evenly contested was followed by Barcelona taking things up a gear to pull away in the second half.

They progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Newcastle are the latest Premier League side to go out.

The Camp Nou is bouncing and the party has started! The ultras are on their feet, the drums are banging, the flags are waving and the stadium is electric.

They'll have the quarter-finals on their minds... either Atletico Madrid or Tottenham Hotspur will be their opponents.

Barcelona were a little bit lackadaisical in that first half. Defensively they weren't switched on and Newcastle punished them.

Lets be honest we don't really know where Arsenal are compared to the top sides of Europe because the Leverkusen team they played is not on this level.

Goalkeeper Joan Garcia made that save from Harvey Barnes and immediately clutched at his knee. He has felt something tweak here and he is going to be replaced.

Wojciech Szczesny will be brought on to see this one over the line for Barcelona.

This is already a real beating for Newcastle so it is really difficult for them to try and keep some sort of organisation and shape.

Lamine Yamal is denied by Aaron Ramsdale.

Harvey Barnes goes for it up the other end but it's easily gathered by Joan Garcia.

Newcastle have conceded 7+ goals in a match in any competition for the first time since a 7-3 defeat to Arsenal in December 2012 - this is their 610th game since.

It is the joint-most ever by an English team in a game in major European competition, after Tottenham in their 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in October 2019.

A lot of Premier League teams have taken some absolute batterings in European competition this year. Is the Premier League really as good as what some claim?

    Bradley Bicknell, Hartlepool

Not a great look for the Premier league is it. There's a chance of only Arsenal being in the next round after the games tonight.

  15. Spurs face mammoth taskpublished at 19:25 GMT 18 March

Tottenham v Atletico Madrid (20:00 GMT)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs must defy the odds and all the recent evidence of their form to somehow claw back a 5-2 deficit against Atletico Madrid - with Sunday's Anfield talisman Richarlison suspended.

In reality, Sunday's upcoming game at home to fellow Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest is probably the more important game, but this will still be a big night because it looks like this will be Spurs' last Champions League game for quite some time.

There are so many goals that the English teams have just given away, so easily. At this level, you get found out.

The English teams have really struggled in and around their own penalty areas. You just cannot get through this trophy if you're going to give away goals like that.

It's dreadful from Ramsey, plays a blind pass back to goal and just pops it into Raphina's path.

The boys from Barcelona are giving Newcastle one hell of a beating. This is going to be a long 17/18 minutes for Eddie Howe's side.

Is this a lesson in the value of European experience for Newcastle?

You have to credit them for going for it but some of the goals conceded have been a bit disappointing from their point of view.
