Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is already leaping and jumping around inside (and out of) his technical area. No chance of him taking any game for granted - not even with a 5-2 advantage from the first leg.

  2. Barca await the winnerspublished at 20:05 GMT 18 March

Tottenham 0-0 Atletico Madrid (2-5 agg)

Whoever gets through this will have a two-legged quarter-final tie against Barcelona, who just produced a destructive performance to get past Newcastle, winning 7-2 earlier to seal an 8-3 aggregate triumph.

Spanish leaders Barcelona are 13 points ahead of third-placed Atletico in La Liga, although Atletico did just eliminate Barca, 4-3 on aggregate, in the Copa del Rey recently.

Spurs have only ever played Barcelona four times, and never beaten them. Their only recent matches came in the group stage of the Champions League in 2018-19, with Tottenham losing 4-2 in London and drawing 1-1 in Spain.

Bayern Munich 0-0 Atalanta (agg 6-1)

We've only played a couple of minutes at the Allianz Arena and already Lennart Karl is looking lively.

The forward - who is expected to be named in the Germany squad for the first time tomorrow - is the third youngest player (18 years and 24 days) to start a Champions League knockout game for Bayern Munich.

It has been a lively start. Possession has been turned over three or four times already. They do have that threat on the counter-attack - they will not be afraid to play direct.

Hugo Ekitike picks the ball up wide left. He comes inside and looks to whip one into the far post but he sets it out too wide.

    Liverpool 0-0 Galatasaray (0-1 agg)

It's an early free-kick to Galatasary deep in their half after some high pressing from Liverpool.

The Turkish will be looking to take the sting out of the crowd early doors.

Liverpool have adopted the PSG kick-off style by hammering the ball into touch down near the corner flag.

Arne Slot will be hoping they play like them tonight.

Bayern Munich 0-0 Atalanta (agg 6-1)

Harry Kane captains Bayern Munich for the first time in the Champions League tonight.

Will the Englishman add to his 45 goals in all competitions this season?

The Champions League anthem is drowned out by chants of Liverpool from the Anfield crowd. Liverpool need to race out of the blocks here.

    Liverpool v Galatasaray (0-1 agg, 20:00 GMT)

Anfield is crackling and the Liverpool players look focussed tonight as they meet Galatasaray for the third time this season.

The Reds have to beat the Turkish side this time around, though.

  12. Youthful Spurs looking for magic nightpublished at 19:57 GMT 18 March

Tottenham v Atletico Madrid (20:00 GMT, 2-5 agg)

At 24 years and 301 days old, this is Tottenham Hotspur's second-youngest starting XI in the Champions League (and youngest in the knockout stages of the competition); they only fielded a younger side against Borussia Dortmund in January (24 years, 245 days).

  13. More history for Salah?published at 19:57 GMT 18 March

    Liverpool v Galatasaray (20:00 GMT, 0-1 agg)

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has scored 49 Champions League goals (two for Basel, one for Roma, 46 for Liverpool) and could become the first African player to net 50 in the competition.

But if the Reds were to go out tonight, could this be Salah's last game in Europe's elite competition?

    Liverpool v Galatasaray (0-1 agg, 20:00 GMT)

There will be no Galatasaray fans at Anfield tonight after they were banned because of misconduct during the play-off second leg against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium on 25 February.

Fans were found guilty of lighting and throwing fireworks and flares, some of which were launched toward the home sections of the stadium.

Despite this, videos emerged on social media showing plenty of Galatasaray fans in Liverpool last night.

This really is the kind of Anfield night that needs no introduction. Throughout their history, Liverpool have thrived on these European nights.

It's worth re-emphasising too that Galatasaray fans have been banned from attending tonight after receiving a UEFA sanction. Though there's still been plenty of Turkish fans in Liverpool throughout the day.

Either way, it promises to be a cracking night with so much at stake.

"Nights like this are what Anfield is all about," says Virgil van Dijk in his programme notes.

"That this is a massive game for us requires no explanation," adds Arne Slot.

The Liverpool boss will know full well that if his side don't progress tonight, the pressure on him and his future will only amplify.

  18. Why Olise is now in Ballon d'Or contention at Bayernpublished at 19:50 GMT 18 March

    Bayern Munich v Atalanta (6-1, 20:00 GMT)

A left-footed winger cutting in from the right flank? It just feels natural at Bayern Munich.

It was an Arjen Robben trademark - now it's Michael Olise's.

Bayern go into the second leg of their last-16 tie with Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday holding a 6-1 advantage.

That's thanks to a dazzling performance from the 24-year-old in the first leg, when he scored twice and laid on an assist.

The display was in keeping with Olise's remarkable form since he joined from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2024 - no one in Europe's top five leagues has more than his 23 assists in all competitions this season, no winger can top his 38 goal involvements.

It's no wonder he's now being talked about as one of the best players on the planet.
