To a certain Mr Olly.. how on earth have we been over achieving? We should be 10 points better off than what we are..

What do we make of the Blackburn throwback kit for their 150th anniversary by the way?

    Blackburn 0-1 Wrexham

Matty Litherland tussles for possession in the Wrexham box, but shows too much muscle and concedes the free-kick.

At the other end, Wrexham wing back Ryan Longman goes down a second time and looks to be in a little trouble. He continues for now.

Longman then blocks a powerful shot but with an outstretched arm and it's a free-kick right on the edge of the box.

Todd Cantwell over the ball and he smacks it straight into the wall, Matty James to be precise, and then clouts the rebound harmlessly over the bar.

  5. 'Blackburn not at the races'published at 12:57 GMT 1 January

    Blackburn 0-1 Wrexham

    Kevin Gallacher
Former Blackburn striker on BBC Radio Lancashire

We're certainly not at the races yet, Wrexham have come out the far better side.

We're struggling to put two passes together at the moment. The defenders don't want to drive into space because it's getting closed down, but the movement from the front players is shocking.

  6. Groans growingpublished at 12:54 GMT 1 January

    Blackburn 0-1 Wrexham

    Ian Mitchelmore
    BBC Sport Wales

The moans and groans from the home fans are growing.

And their concerns are entirely understandable.

Wrexham have started well here and are well worth their lead.

    Blackburn 0-1 Wrexham

Rovers skipper Todd Cantwell drops back to get on the ball in an attempt to try and marshall his troops.

They strung together about 20 passes there, but without progressing up the pitch.

Then Wrexham break quickly and again go close. Ollie Rathbone robs Todd Cantwell and plays in Ryan Longman down the right.

His far-post cross has too much zip on it and Sam Smith can only divert it into the side netting.

0-5 Wrexham. Rovers been over achieving all season. Reality now.

These long balls from deep are really working for Wrexham who are hoovering up the second ball.

Sam Smith almost works an opening for Lewis O'Brien on the edge of the box. But Rovers do enough to clear the danger.

  10. 'Blackburn can't contain Wrexham'published at 12:48 GMT 1 January

    Blackburn 0-1 Wrexham

    Kevin Gallacher
Former Blackburn striker on BBC Radio Lancashire

The long passes from Wrexham are causing all sorts of problems for Blackburn.

Wrexham are doing it brilliantly, they're outnumbering Blackburn and we don't know how to handle it.

They're having much more success in this first half so far.

  11. CLOSE!published at 12:46 GMT 1 January

    Blackburn 0-1 Wrexham

    Wrexham almost have a second!

Rovers had not conceded a goal in three matches but almost leak two in the opening 13 minutes.

More slack defending allows Sam Smith to pick out Ollie Rathbone in space in the Blackburn box, but Sean McLoughlin diverts the ball just past the post.

Wrexham have been a real surprise package this year. It's just another chapter in their incredible story. They are not blowing teams away, but they are picking up the points when it really matters. It's amazing what desire and a shared goal can do for team morale. Phil Parkinson is doing an amazing job. If they can sort out their away day malaise, they just might sneak into the play-offs. Could they go up? Why not, they are certainly proving people wrong.

  13. Smith intent on grabbing his chancepublished at 12:45 GMT 1 January

    Blackburn 0-1 Wrexham

    Ian Mitchelmore
    BBC Sport Wales

He's been starved of opportunities this season, but Sam Smith is fully intent on taking his chance to impress today in the absence of top scorer Kieffer Moore.

The forward is making just his second league start of the campaign and bags his second Championship goal of the season.

The Wrexham fans in the away end are truly making themselves heard now, and it's fair to say the home supporters are somewhat jittery.

  14. 'Shocking marking'published at 12:43 GMT 1 January

When are Blackburn going to learn?

It's shocking marking between them, the defenders are sleeping. It was a simple long pass and suddenly you find yourself 1-0 down.

I'm not convinced by Aynsley Pears' positioning too.

  15. goal

GOAL: Blackburn 0-1 Wrexhampublished at 12:42 GMT 1 January

    Sam Smith (10 mins)

    Wrexham hit the front!

Matty James spots the hosts are short at the back and launches a superbly weighted long ball over the Blackburn defence.

It finds the run of Sam Smith who continues into the box and threads a shot between Rovers keeper Aynsley Pears and his near post.

    Blackburn 0-0 Wrexham

Rovers old boy Dom Hyam gets a few boos as he gets his first touch. Quite muted.

Blackburn finally get out of their own half and have the first attempt.

Ryan Hedges, overlapping down the left, gets in a deep cross which falls to Matty Litherland on the edge of the box, but he blazes high over the bar.

  17. Rathbone returnspublished at 12:38 GMT 1 January

    Blackburn 0-0 Wrexham

    Ian Mitchelmore
    BBC Sport Wales

It's great to see Ollie Rathbone starting again.

The midfielder was Wrexham's Player of the Year in 2024-25 as the Red Dragons gained promotion from League One.

But he is making his first league start of the 2025-26 campaign today having missed several months due to an ankle injury he suffered in pre-season.

    Blackburn 0-0 Wrexham

Wrexham's squad gets a full airing today with those five changes, with a few of them enforced in the forward line.

Kieffer Moore is out with a slight hamstring injury picked up at Preston, while Josh Windass is out with a calf knock.

The visitors have started on the front foot and playing the game in Blackburn territory, but no attempts on goal to mark your card just yet.

    John Densley, Barton upon Humber

Please correct my maths if I'm wrong.... But could Sheff Weds be (mathematically) relegated by end of January if results go against them?? Genuinely wish the Weds fans luck for the future... But wow...

    Rob, Norwich

Bit worried for Middlesbrough at the moment. Style of play been in decline since Edwards left and players looking short of belief they can get promoted. Fancy Ipswich to overtake them soon.

    Blackburn 0-0 Wrexham

There's a new/old look for Blackburn today as they celebrate their 150th anniversary season with a change of strip.

They run out in the all white tops they wore back in 1875 with a Maltese cross in place of the modern club badge.

    Old school.
