  1. Can Addicks raid Boro's Riverside fortress?published at 19:39 GMT 11 March

    Middlesbrough v Charlton (19:45 GMT)

The Riverside has not been a happy hunting ground for Charlton Athletic.

The London club have picked up just one win in their past 17 league games on Teesside - a 3-0 Premier League victory all the way back in 2005.

Middlesbrough are flying high after their thumping 4-0 win over QPR on Sunday and another victory tonight will help consolidate second spot and automatic promotion to the top tier for Kim Hellberg's team.

The Addicks' timely 1-0 win over Birmingham City on Saturday opened up an eight-point gap between them and the relegation zone.

Buck the trend and pick up three points tonight and Charlton fans can start planning for a second season in the Championship come August.

  2. Sinking Baggies host in-form Saintspublished at 19:36 GMT 11 March

West Brom v Southampton (19:45 GMT)

Six wins in eight games have led to a surge up the table to eighth place from Southampton.

Win tonight and Tonda Eckert's side will be a point off the play-offs.

West Brom's form has been nothing short of disastrous.

The Baggies have now gone 12 Championship games without a win - sacking two managers in that timeframe - and have dropped into the bottom three.

Saints are undefeated in eight - and have won eight of their past 10 league games against their hosts.

They're also riding high after beating Fulham to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at the weekend.

Almost everything here points to an away win.

  3. Six-pointer territory?published at 19:32 GMT 11 March

    Oxford v Blackburn (19:45 GMT)

You can argue until the cows come home about what actually constitutes a six-pointer in football. But surely this one fits that category?

Oxford United and Blackburn are both in the relegation battle and separated by just four points.

Seemingly out of nowhere, after a run of six games without a win and just one victory from 11 matches, the U's have won two on the bounce for the first time this season to give themselves a fighting chance of survival.

A third win in a row for Matt Bloomfield's side would not only put them level on points with Leicester in 21st, it would also very much reel Rovers right in.

Blackburn won two in a row themselves after Northern Ireland international manager Michael O'Neill was announced as their new boss but have since gone three without victory (D1 L2) and will likely have this fixture earmarked as a must-win against a direct rival.

  4. Cut and thrust campaigns for Blades and Canariespublished at 19:30 GMT 11 March

Norwich v Sheff Utd (19:45 GMT)

These two teams have shared very similar experiences in a topsy-turvy Championship season.

Both were in relegation trouble, both changed managers, both have fared significantly better since doing so.

Norwich were second from bottom and four points adrift of safety when Philippe Clement took over - the Canaries have won 11 of their 20 games since then to climb to 17th and nine points clear of the drop.

Similarly, Sheffield United were rock bottom after six straight defeats to open the campaign and five points from safety when Chris Wilder replaced Ruben Selles for his third spell at Bramall Lane.

Fast forward 30 matches and the Blades are up to 12th. United are even outsiders for a late play-off charge and could move within five points of the top six with a win tonight.

  5. Birmingham and QPR looking to shake off bluespublished at 19:27 GMT 11 March

    Birmingham v QPR (19:45 GMT)

The play-offs appear out of reach.

    Seemingly safe from the drop.

And on a run of three consecutive losses.

Both Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers' seasons are in danger of fizzling out in the Championship's mid-table wilderness.

Chris Davies' Blues come into the game on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat by Charlton Athletic at The Valley, while Julien Stephan's Rs have been licking their wounds from a 4-0 mauling at home by Middlesbrough on Sunday.

With 49 [Birmingham] and 47 [QPR] points respectively, both sides have a slim chance of sneaking into the top six by the time the play-offs roll round in May.

For now, though, both will be focused on getting back to winning ways and a strong finish to the season.

Coventry are aiming to remain at least five points clear of Middlesbrough at the top of the Championship, while Boro themselves can restore a four-point cushion to Millwall in third.

Southampton will hope to make the most of Wrexham's defeat by Hull last night and move within a point of the play-off places - quite remarkable when you think the Saints were 10 points adrift of the top six just two months ago.

At the bottom, West Bromwich Albion need a win to climb out of the bottom three while Oxford and Blackburn are also in need of points in their respective survival battles.

  9. Owls to be docked 15 points if deal completedpublished at 19:18 GMT 11 March

    Championship

It just goes from bad to worse for the Owls.

This wretched season, in which they've been deducted a total of 18 points, already been relegated and might even finish the campaign on negative points, cannot end quickly enough.

And now they have been stung with the news they will be hit with another 15-point deduction in League One next term if a deal with their new preferred bidder goes through.

Administrators have begun an exclusive period of negotiation with American private equity company Arise Capital Partners.

However, Arise's offer would not meet the EFL's requirement to repay creditors 25p in the pound, which would mean the Owls starting life back in the third tier with a significant handicap.

Dejphon Chansiri, their main creditor, is understood to have loaned the club £60m over more than a decade as owner, and must be paid back £15m of that if the Owls are to avoid a points loss.

It's yet another kick in the teeth for a fanbase who can't wait to put the whole miserable saga behind them and begin to rebuild.

  10. Tuesday night's resultspublished at 19:15 GMT 11 March

    Championship

The Championship results on Tuesday 10 March: Leicester 2-0 Bristol City, Millwall 1-0 Derby, Portsmouth 1-2 Swansea, Sheff Wed 1-1 Watford, Wrexham 1-2 Hull, Stoke 3-3 IpswichImage source, Opta

There were some big results in the Championship last night at both ends of the table.

Millwall made yet more strides towards challenging for automatic promotion with a narrow win over Derby, while Ipswich drew in a six-goal thriller at Stoke.

Hull overcame Wrexham in a battle between two play-off challengers and Sheffield Wednesday were denied their first win since September after Watford equalised in the 90th minute.

Leicester ended their 10-game winless run to climb out of the relegation zone and fellow strugglers Portsmouth were beaten 2-1 at home by Swansea.

  11. Can Vale cup heroics inspire great escape?published at 19:12 GMT 11 March

Port Vale v Bradford (19:45 GMT)

Port Vale have been rewarded for their amazing FA Cup win over Sunderland with a plum draw away to Chelsea.

The lowest ranked team in the cup by a distance, their remarkable run is made even more incredible when compared with their shocking league form.

The Valiants are propping up the third tier with 27 points and just six wins from 32 games this season.

But a run of three games without defeat - plus a plethora of matches in hand on their relegation rivals - has given Jon Brady's side a glimmer of hope of a late dash to safety.

They host promotion chasers Bradford City, who can move level with third-placed Bolton Wanderers with a win, while AFC Wimbledon welcome Blackpool in the night's other League One encounter.
