    Van Gerwen 1-2 Clayton

Lovely set-up from Jonny Clayton, a 136 to leave tops.

That puts the pressure on Michale van Gerwen to take out 68... and he misses the double four.

No mistake from Clayton. The Ferret breaks to take the lead.

    Jonny Clayton levels... just.

What could've been a 12-darter for the Welshman ends up with him needing to hit double one to clinch it in 18.

  3. MVG takes out 122published at 19:15 BST 16 April

    Van Gerwen 1-0 Clayton

Michael van Gerwen gives the fans what they want!

A big 122 checkout to get things started. Great stuff after a pretty nervy first couple of visits from the Dutchman.

Jonny Clayton has been consistent. There's been players that have been brilliant but he's been consistent and he showed resilience last week to bounce back from three quarter-final defeats.

    Van Gerwen v Clayton

A perfectly respectable welcome for Jonny Clayton for the Rotterdam crowd, no booing or anything like that.

But they've been saving themselves because here comes Michael van Gerwen - that is some reception for the Dutch number two.

Jonny Clayton talking to Sky Sports: "We're here to win matches - I want to win the night. That is what I'm aiming for, but if I can get two points that is massive bonus. I've said that from night one.

"It is going to be difficult and it is going to be noisy. I need to get a job done and that is what I'm going to try and do."

I always think darts is in a better place when Michael van Gerwen is playing well so it was good to see him reaching the final last week.

Jonny Clayton came out on top when these top met in the final last Thursday in Brighton, rallying from 5-2 down to take it in the last-leg decider.

No doubt Michael van Gerwen will want to put things right after missing four match darts - and he will have the backing of a vociferous home crowd as he attempts to do so.

The Dutchman has not won a night since the opening week in Newcastle but has collected enough wins to keep himself in the top four, currently four points ahead of fellow countryman Gian van Veen in fifth.

Another win in Rotterdam would boost his hopes of adding to his seven Premier League titles.

Meanwhile, Clayton must already be planning for finals night at the O2 next month.

The Welshman's win on the south coast last week was his third of the year and took him above Luke Littler to the top of the standings - some 12 points clear of fifth.

He may already have enough points but just a couple more wins over the next six weeks and The Ferret's top-four place will be secured.

    Result: Van Veen 2-6 Humphries

Luke Humphries finishes with an average of 100.51 despite that slow start with some big scoring and much more clinical finishing - he ended 46.15% on the outer ring - as the game went on.

For Gian van Veen, a disappointing showing in front of a home crowd. He averaged just 93.36 and his checkout percentage was down at 33.33%.

We'll have to wait a bit longer for the next Littler and Van Veen clash.

Very sloppy on doubles at the start from Luke Humphries, but he was by far the better of the two in that match.

He will face Luke Littler in the semi-finals.

    Van Veen 1-2 Humphries

    Wayne Mardle
Former World Matchplay finalist on Sky Sports

Luke Humphries is a measured man and knows what he can achieve so he can go on a little run.

You don't want to start losing this week and start relying on others though.

The Premier League is brutal and it has been brutal for him.

    Van Veen 1-2 Humphries

Nearly a spectacular bit of work from Luke Humphries to win the leg! A 145 sets up a finish on 160. He gets both trebles but doesn't hit tops.

Van Veen can't see off 82, though, and Humphries pins double 10.

    Van Veen 1-1 Humphries

A score of 21 at one point doesn't do much to help Gian van Veen as he tries to break.

Luke Humphries is better on the outer ring this time round. He takes out 51 with 19 and double 16, hitting his first dart at the double.
