Superb from Luke Humphries to earn the first break of the match.

He left 62 with Michael van Gerwen well back but the Dutchman puts the pressure on with a two treble visit.

Humphries holds his nerve though and hits double eight to take the leg.

Luke Humphries is two from two on the outer ring now. That has been an area of concern from him in the Premier League so far.

    Van Gerwen 1-2 Humphries

Michael van Gerwen is starting to get going now and, when Luke Humphries fails to reel in the big fish, the Dutchman has a shot at 122 to break.

Not this time and Humphries has left himself 36. One dart is all he needs, double 18 hit and the defending champ edges ahead again.

That was a good response from Van Gerwen.

We always ask if he's back to his brilliant best and he has produced his best Premier League average in Cardiff with 116.9.

Those are the levels we want to see him back at.

    Van Gerwen 1-1 Humphries

Pretty much a mirror of the first leg with Michael van Gerwen holding comfortably.

A 13-darter for the Dutchman, finishing on double 16 to take out 50.

    Van Gerwen 0-1 Humphries

Not a vintage leg but a clinical finish from Luke Humphries.

He takes out 80 in two darts after warming up throughout the leg. A comfortable hold with Michael van Gerwen not even down to a finish.

It feels inevitable that the results will come for Luke Humphries.

I like that he is saying there's no panic and he knows the results will come.

    It can't keep happening.

I think tonight is the night the Nuke arrives in the tournament. I’d love to see Rocky pick up some points but I see imagine Littler will be determined to get further tonight than he has in the previous 4 weeks. Ominous.

    Here we go then.

We've had Seven Nation Army, we've had I Predict A Riot, the crowd have had a bit of a sing-song - not quite as tunefully as the choir we heard from a little earlier - and now it's time for the darts...

    Van Gerwen v Humphries

Luke Humphries talking to Sky Sports: "There is no easy nights. It's really tough. I have been playing some good stuff but unfortunately the other players have been putting in better stuff. I've just got to keep going and see if it's good enough."

Michael van Gerwen talking to Sky Sports: "Every week there is a lot of noise. To play Luke Humphries is always nice. He's a quick player an a good player. He's under pressure because he's missed some opportunities. I need to be sharp again."

Luke Humphries can't keep playing as well as he is and not win. He is blowing chances and fluffing his lines but eventually those opportunities will be taken.

Like Luke Littler, he just can't seem to get wins on the board, but I think they'll both overcome it and be fine.

What a match to get things started in Cardiff!

Three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen takes on 2024 winner and defending Premier League champion Luke Humphries.

Mighty Mike started the competition in fine style with victory in Newcastle on night one and looked in great form in 2026.

He had to withdraw from night three because of illness but still finds himself third in the table, two points behind leader Jonny Clayton.

By contrast, it has been a difficult start for Humphries.

He's won just two matches across the first four weeks and finds himself down in sixth.

It's still early days but he needs his form to pick up if he wants to make it back to the O2 to defend his title in May.

Back in the Premier League and looking right at home, things look good for Jonny Clayton as he prepares for night five in front of a home crowd in Cardiff.

The Welshman tops the table with one nightly win to his name and six matches won.

More surprising is that last year's finalists Luke Humphries and Luke Littler find themselves in sixth and seventh, respectively, with just three wins combined so far.

Premier League of Darts - Night 5

Darts fever has well and truly hit the Welsh capital.

The bingo card of traffic cones, bananas and jockeys is easily completed at the Utilita Arena this evening - on almost every table you look at.

How this crowd would love the two Welsh players to make a run to the final this evening, and it is hard to rule either out on their current form.

Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price have got to compose themselves now. We know how much this home crowd will want them to win.

The choir performance on the stage was really quite emotional and astounding.

It's night five of the Premier League and the roadshow has moved on to Cardiff tonight!

The home fans will be hoping table-topping Welshman Jonny Clayton can continue playing the kind of darts we've seen from him thus far.

But with four different winners in the first four weeks - none of whom are named Luke - there is every chance we will be looking at a fifth different winner already...
