India have had an interesting build up to the T20 World Cup thus far, beating Australia 2-1 in February before suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of South Africa last month. India will be hoping to get back to winning ways and replicate their series win over England last summer.

India captain Smriti Mandhana: "It's been a long time [since winning the ODI World Cup]. We've played good cricket in England in the last two or three tours. Every tour you have to start afresh, we take the confidence but when we play the first ball it'll be a fresh start.

"Australia [whom they beat 2-1 in February] was a good tour for us in terms of T20s, South Africa [whom they lost to 4-1 in April] play good cricket. We understand a lot of things we need to work on, which is a great thing ahead of a World Cup."

On standing in for Harmanpreet Kaur in this match: "She's resting today, she'll be very good in the second match.

  12. Postpublished at 18:21 BST 28 May

England captain Charlie Dean: "It looks a good pitch. Hopefully we can get a bit out of it while the sun is out.

"We are getting a bit closer [to knowing best team] but still have a few things to work out. Tilly makes her debut today which is exciting.

"They [India] are one of the strongest sides in the world. It will be good preparation for us."
