  1. Eng 235-5published at 54 overs

Jamie Smith is off the mark. Albeit with a sigh of relief.

The England wicketkeeper edges Scott Boland just in front of Steve Smith at first slip.

Boland is punished for being a little too full to Joe Root with his penultimate delivery as the England batter whips him square for four.

Root is grinning after the final ball of the over as his defensive poke is beaten by a jaffa from Boland.

  2. Eng 229-5published at 53 overs

Jamie Smith eschews the chance to take on a bouncer from Mitchell Starc as the England batter sees off a maiden.

Harry Brook is so talented but you do wonder if he ever engaged his brain whether he would be twice the cricketer he currently is.

    Tom

People knocking Brook need to remember has averaged nearly 45 in this series. Second in the batters. There are many others that deserve ire than him.

    Sam, London

Goodness me, Brook can be infuriating! Given his wicket away (again).

Here's the dismissal of Harry Brook.

  6. Eng 229-5published at 51 overs

Australia's relentlessness with the ball again, here, is impressive. Hitting those lengths and the top of off consistently.

Joe Root has a fair bit more on his shoulders now.

I gave that out on body language from Ben Stokes. He almost had a shock about him of 'that was well bowled and I'm gone'.

The original decision of not out is overturned after Snicko shows Ben Stokes got a thin edge on that peach of a delivery from Mitchell Starc.

Stokes is on his way back to the pavilion for an 11-ball duck.

Left-arm quick Starc has now dismissed left-handed batter Stokes five times in the series and 14 times in Tests overall.

It looks like he has hit it. This deliberation has been a problem through this whole series with technology.

Big moment for the much-derided Snicko.

It's a brilliant delivery with bounce and a hint of movement off the seam.

Mitchell Starc was unconvinced but it did really climb through.

Sometimes you can get a clue in Stokes' body language - he seems okay.

  12. Australia reviewpublished at 50.4 overs

Hmmm, Mitchell Starc is on a fourth or fifth stump line and Ben Stokes defends.

Steve Smith thinks he's heard something. Given not out on field.

Australia review it. Stokes is poker faced.

This is a big 20 minutes now. If Australia can get another wicket here then England are in trouble.

  14. Eng 228-4published at 50 overs

A tight over from Scott Boland with just a single for Joe Root off it. Ben Stokes yet to get off the mark.

Harry Brook reminds me of a young Cristiano Ronaldo. A bit of a young show pony. Ronaldo turned into a world beater. Let’s hope Harry does the same.

    Mike Smith, Richmond

Lot of talk about how talented Brook is, but so many of his dismissals are like this. Surely they have to talk to him about the mentality in those situations?

Today was a massive day for Harry Brook. He is going to be back here in four year's time and to be coming back with a century would have helped him so much.

A big moment for Harry Brook to miss out on.

  17. Eng 227-4published at 49 overs

The TV graphics suggesting a fraction more movement off the pitch with that delivery from Scott Boland to dismiss Harry Brook. A little bit of juice in this pitch first thing, perhaps.

Mitchell Starc bowls to Ben Stokes, who defends him stoutly.

The England skipper will not be troubled by as much movement through the air from the left-arm quick given the conditions but he does still manage a leading edge attempting to work one off his toes from Starc.

After all that swiping and swishing at the short ball, Harry Brook gets out to a nothing poke at a wide one. Story of his series.

  19. Eng 226-4published at 48 overs

Harry Brook's hands were quite some way away from his body. He almost played it like a catching drill for the slip cordon.

England skipper Ben Stokes the new batter.

A poor shot and a good catch from Steve Smith. There will be no century today from Harry Brook.

He is walking off slowly, he knows he has messed up.
