Ash Gardner has dropped a reasonably straightforward chance. You can't help but feel Alana King should've had a wicket there.

  2. dropped catch

    SA 30-2

Hang on, what have I just seen?

An Australian has dropped a catch?

Not only that but Ash Gardner has parried it over the ropes for six, too. It was clubbed straight to her on the mid-wicket boundary but it's somehow burst through her hands.

That is not something you expect to see from her, she is one of Australia's best fielders.

    Here comes Alana King.

    Box office.

  4. SA 22-2published at 4 overs

    Target 173

Kim Garth bowls another testing over and Laura Wolvaardt gets a streaky boundary from the final ball. She attempts one of her trademark cover drives but edges over point instead, just out of the fielder's reach.

It doesn't really feel like De Klerk has smacked that one. She's just helped it on its way and it's gone flying.

    She's such a good player.

    Oh, hello!

Nadine de Klerk slog-sweeps Sophie Molineux for six. She's not bothered by the loss of two early wickets.

These two need a partnership. Yes, they have Kapp to come but they need some runs on the board.

South Africa are a funny team. They always seem to start poorly in World Cups but when their backs are against the wall, that's when they really play.

South Africa were impressive in the field, led by Laura Wolvaardt with this spectacular catch. She's got a big job to do with the bat now, though.

  9. SA 9-2published at 2 overs

    Target 173

Gorgeous shot from Nadine de Klerk to get off the mark, driving through the covers for a couple as sub fielder Megan Schutt just about manages to save the boundary after a rare misfield.

It's just clipped the pad on the way through, it nipped back quite a long way. We said Kim Garth would be a dangerous bowler on this surface and she gets her first wicket in her first over.

It's four and out, but that is an absolute ripper from Kim Garth.

The seam position is perfect, and Dercksen is squared up as the ball nips past her defence and clips the top of off.

Australia are showing why they are so formidable already.

  12. SA 7-1published at 1.3 overs

Tricky situation for the promising youngster Annerie Dercksen, coming in so early, but she kickstarts her innings by thumping Kim Garth down the ground for four!

A bit quicker from Sophie Molineux, attacking the stumps. It was a good delivery and a good call from the umpire.

South Africa off to a shocking start.

Sophie Molineux strikes as Sune Luus misses a pull shot off a ball that is a fraction short but it skids through quickly.

They discuss a review but opt against it and the replays show it was crashing into the leg stump, so a wise call.

Australia should win this game. But, you never know what could happen, South Africa do have some of the world's best out there.

South Africa's batting line-up is a strong one, but they have tinkered with it quite a bit over the past couple of years.

They've settled on Sune Luus and Laura Wolvaardt as the opening pair for this tournament after Tazmin Brits had gone through a poor run of form.

Luus solidly defends the first ball.

As Matt says, Australia are not short on bowling options. Ellyse Perry was going through some drills out there but she is rarely used with the ball these days.

Kim Garth is the frontline seamer with support from all-rounders Annabel Sutherland and Nicola Carey, while there's plenty of spin from Alana King, Georgia Wareham, Ash Gardner and captain Sophie Molineux. - who is going to take the first over.

What to make of this score? I'd say it's about par but Australia's bowling attack is above par.

This would be the highest chase at a women's T20 World Cup if South Africa pull it off.

I'm a little bit anxious to be honest. 173 is a lot of runs in what's a huge game for South Africa.

Laura Wolvaardt has to play a big part in this. She does have a lot of support but I am feeling more nervous than optimistic.

Australia batter Phoebe Litchfield: "I knew they had their world-class bowlers in Kapp and Ismail up front so I didn't want to just let them bowl at me. So I tried to move around a bit and managed to get a few away in the powerplay which was nice.

"The wicket was good, it came on to the bat nicely.

"But it's definitely a competitive total, it did play a few tricks out there early on, so I think it'll suit Kim Garth and then our spinners can hopefully get to work in the middle."
