Alana Dalzell made her debut in 2023 as a bowler, and did not feature with the bat until her 19th game. She has been elevated up the order as an opener in her last five T20Is and this was the first time she made it to double figures.

  2. Ire 38-3published at 6 overs

A strong end to the powerplay for Ireland, who take 13 from Sophie Ecclestone's first over.

Still, England will be the happier of the two sides having taken those three wickets.

Ireland will be hoping that Orla Prendergast can provide something very special.

That's a brilliant shot from Prendergast. She's so strong down the ground.

  5. Ire 35-3published at 5.3 overs

    More spin for England.

However, Sophie Ecclestone's first delivery is cutely cut away for four behind square by Orla Prendergast.

A thick outside edge brings two more for Ireland's number four.

And four more! Lovely use of the feet to access long-off and it lands just inside the rope.

I think England have got the best bowling attack in the tournament. They have got all bases covered.

  7. Ire 25-3published at 5 overs

A wicket maiden to start for Charlie Dean.

It's a soft dismissal. Charlie Dean is just bowling straight, and Dalzell is trying to hit a little straighter than that so it comes off the outside edge.

It's not looking good for Ireland.

  9. wicket

    Dalzell c Kemp b Dean 14 (Ire 25-3)

Charlie Dean is into the attack from the pavilion end and she strikes.

Alana Dalzell tries to use her feet to the spinners once more, but only succeeds in plinking a catch to Freya Kemp at extra cover.

Three down in the powerplay is never good news.

Love that intent from Dalzell. She's got used to facing Smith now, knows she is going to be attacking the stumps so she makes sure she gets to the pitch of the ball with mid-off inside the circle.

  11. Ire 25-2published at 4 overs

Linsey Smith - collar up a la Eric Cantona - continues and is bopped back over her head for four by Alana Dalzell.

A decent over for Ireland - eight from it.

  12. Ire 17-2published at 3 overs

Orla Prendergast joins Alana Dalzell with Ireland in a spot of bother.

That's a little unlucky for Gaby Lewis.

Short fine leg was up. The shot was on. She got a good bit of it. A foot either side or a foot higher and Heather Knight wouldn't have got there.

    First ball? Hmm.

It's a brave shot, she got hold of it pretty well, but I'm not sure about playing that when it had already been a pretty good over for Ireland.

A first-ball duck for the Ireland captain.

With fine up inside the circle, Gaby Lewis steps across her stumps and gets plenty of bat on a paddle sweep.

However, it flies just to the right of Heather Knight who takes a sharp catch.

Just a little bit too full from Lauren Bell. Dalzell just had to lean on it and it has flown away.

  17. Ire 14-1published at 2.2 overs

After a scratchy start, Alana Dalzell whips a lovely shot through mid-wicket for her first boundary.

She's such a hard bowler to sweep, she bowls so straight and gets that in-swing more than spin.

There was pressure on Amy Hunter with her opening partner on one from seven balls, so it's not a huge surprise to see her play a shot like that.

Linsey Smith is on the money straight away!

After a couple of shots landed short of fielders earlier in the over, Amy Hunter is bowled attempting a sweep shot to leg.

There had only been two singles before that and the pressure told.

Well, that's because she's never played anywhere else. She's played for Hampshire, Southern Vipers and Southern Brave.
