A bit of jeopardy here, it's great.

I didn't see a reason not to keep Orla Prendergast going. Ireland have to get into the all-rounders.

  2. Eng 44-3published at 7 overs

    Target 119

Both Murray and Maguire have bowled very slowly this evening and forced the batters to generate their own pace on the ball, which Sciver-Brunt does by whipping one through the leg side and Alice Tector's excellent dive on the boundary forces them to run three.

Cara Murray has an average speed of just 41.6 miles per hour - no tracked spinner globally has a slower average speed in T20Is.

Heather Knight and Nat Sciver-Brunt are in the middle now, looking to dig England out of trouble as they so often do.

Sciver-Brunt effortlessly pulls Cara Murray's first ball for four.

  5. Eng 35-3published at 6 overs

    Target 119

Orla Prendergast wraps up the powerplay and, though England are still favourites chasing such a low total, it's been a very positive one for the Irish.

    This is brilliant from Ireland.

Prendergast gets through Alice Capsey with a full ball. There's an argument for bowling Prendergast out, but you might need her later on.

But she's been beaten by a beauty!

Stunning response from Orla Prendergast. Having dropped too short the previous ball, she nails a slower yorker and Alice Capsey plays all around it, losing her middle stump.

Ireland are putting up a great fight here.

Alice Capsey has changed her game noticeably against spin in 2026, scoring two thirds of her runs down the ground, up from her career figure of 40% prior to this year.

  9. Eng 35-2published at 5.3 overs

A first boundary for Alice Capsey, confidently pulling Orla Prendergast through mid-wicket.

  10. Postpublished at 21:35 BST 16 June

Ireland hit four boundaries in the final over to push their total up to 118-9.

    Here they are.

  11. Eng 30-2published at 5 overs

    Target 119

The in-form Alice Capsey joins Nat Sciver-Brunt for her first innings of this World Cup after England lost just one wicket in their opener against Sri Lanka.

The pair rotate singles to conclude a cracking over from Aimee Maguire.

Tries to go over mid-off, bat twists in her hands and it's easier for Gaby Lewis this time.

Maguire has bowled a lovely line and length in this over.

    Copy and paste!

Danni Wyatt-Hodge falls in identical fashion to Amy Jones, trying to take on Aimee Maguire who is bowling very cleverly by taking the pace right off.

It's a much simpler catch for Gaby Lewis this time, and Ireland are pumped. Both openers gone.

What a catch that is from Gaby Lewis, setting standards in the field.

Exactly why Maguire was brought back into the attack.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.1 overs

    Jones c Lewis b Maguire 9 (Eng 27-1)

    Great catch!

Amy Jones tries to hit up and over the off side but skews it high in the air, and Ireland skipper Gaby Lewis takes a fine diving catch over her shoulder.

    Nothing streaky about that.

Amy Jones drives sweetly past extra cover for four.

Fingertips. It would have been a brilliant take.

  18. dropped catch

Jones dropped on 4published at 3.1 overs

    Eng 21-0

Feels a bit harsh calling this a drop, as it would've been a spectacular grab from Amy Hunter behind the stumps.

Jones attempts to ramp Prendergast, and Hunter dives full-stretch down the leg side and gets one hand to it, but can't cling on.

    Ah, frustration for Ireland.

Too wide and that's a freebie for Danni Wyatt-Hodge. Crunched for four.

Great bowling from Orla Prendergast and Arlene Kelly who are shaping the ball nicely back into Danni Wyatt-Hodge. The England batter’s strike-rate falls to just 116 against in-swing compared to 142 when the ball shapes away.
