Crawley could average 6 in first class cricket this season and still get picked as England opener.

    Rob, London

Well Rob, he is averaging 15 from the two games so far. There are four more Championship games before the first Test against New Zealand in June.

  2. Tea at Hovepublished at 16:08 BST 12 April

    Sussex 134-3 - Target 328 v Warwickshire

This game has had more ups and downs than a Rory McIlroy Masters round.

Sussex looked well in the pine needles and behind some thick trees when Ethan Bamber claimed two quick wickets for Warwickshire.

But Daniel Hughes and Jack Leaning are playing attacking shots in a bid to get their team out of trouble.

    Could still go either way.

  3. Prest showing big turnaround in formpublished at 16:07 BST 12 April

    Yorkshire 177 v Hampshire 251 & 267-4

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

The turnaround in Hampshire’s performance from last week has continued into day three.

The batting has shown a big improvement.

The only wicket to fall in the afternoon session was that of Tom Prest (53) unluckily run out at the non-strikers end. The 23-year-old, of which much hope has been placed on him, lost his way a bit last season.

Today he hit his second half century of the new campaign. A gifted stroke maker, his technique looks a lot tighter this term.

He’s worked hard on his batting in the close season. Along with several other young Hampshire batters they spent a few days in Delhi post Christmas working on that part of their game. That and two other pre-season tours and Prest’s early season form shows signs of a turnaround.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:04 BST 12 April

    Bohannon c Jewell b Abbas 4 (Lancs 351 & 4-2 v Derbys 374)

Mo Abbas strikes again in his second over and that is a big wicket.

Josh Bohannon had started in a confident manner with two twos but Abbas has done him with a hint of shape away.

Caleb Jewell has done brilliantly to stay low and picks the ball out of the air half an inch off the grass but replays show he gets his fingers under it.

Lancs are still trailing by 19 runs and Derbys are wondering whether there may be a win in this game yet.

  6. Tea in Bristolpublished at 16:02 BST 12 April

    Glos 175 & 183-7 v Durham 605-5 dec

This will surely be the last scheduled stoppage of this match.

A dream of an afternoon for Durham as they have collected seven of the 10 Gloucestershire wickets they require to complete an innings win.

Cameron Bancroft and Ben Charlesworth put on 101 for the first wicket, but since then resistance has not been in great supply.

  7. Postpublished at 15:58 BST 12 April

    Lancs 351 & 0-1 v Derbys 374

This is very good bowling from the Derbys opening pair with Ben Aitchison whistling his third delivery past the edge of Harry Singh who is up on tiptoes defending.

Abbas is back on with the in-form Josh Bohannon now in his sights.

  8. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:54 BST 12 April

    Wells b Abbas 0 (Lancs 351 & 0-1 v Derbys 374)

Back under way at Old Trafford and it has taken six balls for Derbys to make the breakthough.

That was an absolute beauty from Mo Abbas who angles it in, straightens it up through the gate and kisses the bails on its way through.

It has barely disturbed the stumps but Luke Wells, who looked uncomfortable in the five deliveries that proceeded walks with a nod to the bowler.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Daniel Hughespublished at 15:54 BST 12 April

    Sussex 119-3 - Target 328 v Warwickshire

Daniel Hughes batting for SussexImage source, Shutterstock

Financial issues are restricting Sussex to one overseas player but they seem to have a good one in Aussie Daniel Hughes.

He's survived one or two scares and taken a blow to the hand which required treatment. But he's scoring well and giving hope to the home fans in a crowd of nearly a thousand at Hove.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:49 BST 12 April

    Holden c Roderick b Hannon-Dalby 40 (Middx 118-5 - Target 262 v Worc)

Two in two overs for the Pears who are now scenting their first victory since relegation.

Wicket keeper Gareth Roderick dives to his left to take a sensational low catch and Max Holden falls to Olly Hannon-Dalby

  11. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 15:49 BST 12 April

    Surrey 520 v Leics 564-5

Ben Cox (left) about to punch gloves with Stephen Eskinazi (who is holding his helmet) at The OvalImage source, Shutterstock

Stephen Eskinazi and Ben Cox remain together at tea, with their partnership now just above 150.

Cox is into the 90s, needing nine more for his century, with Eskinazi on 78 and Leicestershire leading by 44 runs.

  12. rain stops play

Tea at Headingleypublished at 15:47 BST 12 April

    Yorks 177 v Hants 251 & 267-4

The light is not great either but it is a spot of rain which is cutting this short and the covers are being pushed on.

Tea will be taken and they will be back at around 16:03 weather permitting.

Hants are 341 in front with six second innings wickets standing and in a commanding position in this contest.

  13. Tea at Canterburypublished at 15:46 BST 12 April

    Kent 178 & 27-1 v Northants 684-2 dec

Calvin Harrison comes on for an over just before the interval, with four fielders around the bat to put Ben Compton under pressure but the left-hander withstands that and nudges the penultimate ball of the session for a single.

A lot for Kent to do, but Compton and Sam Northeast have managed to negotiate the rest of the session without further damage.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:45 BST 12 April

    Geddes b Taylor 7 (Middx 114-4 - Target 262 v Worc)

Tom Taylor strikes again with an inswinger that keeps a bit low and knocks over the off stump to dismiss Ben Geddes.

It's in the balance at Lords.

  15. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:43 BST 12 April

    Lancs 351 v Derbys 374

The change of innings has been used to squeeze in a spot of tea and cake for Lancs and Derbys. Back in about seven minutes.

  16. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:39 BST 12 April

    Miles c Robinson b Roach 4 (Glos 175 & 159-7 v Durham 605-5 dec)

It's Easter procession time at Nevil Road!

Kemar Roach bangs one in a bit to Craig Miles, who half follows it as if to try an upper cut, but succeeds only in a light feather, probably off the glove, into the hands of the wicketkeeper.

A really soft way to go and now Durham are only three wickets away from a journey home with 24 points in the bag.

  17. Rain returns at Trent Bridgepublished at 15:38 BST 12 April

    Glamorgan 83-1 - Target 478 v Nottinghamshire

There was hope of a resumption at Trent Bridge as an early tea was announced ahead of a 3.30pm inspection.

    But it's raining again.

  18. Postpublished at 15:35 BST 12 April

    Surrey 520 v Leics 550-5

The Oval has always been famous for its gasworks, of course - and this contest could do with an injection of fuel in the next few hours.

It feels a little pedestrian at the moment, with Stephen Eskinazi and Ben Cox sauntering onwards on 75 and 80 respectively and the Leicestershire lead growing slowly as we approach tea.

  19. Postpublished at 15:34 BST 12 April

    Middlesex 114-3 - Target 262 v Worcestershire

The game at Lords is moving at a brisk pace.

Max Holden hits Ethan Brookes for two fours but in between those shots Brookes beats the outside edge with an away swinger.

  20. wicket

DERBYSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 374published at 15:33 BST 12 April

    Abbas c Wells b Coughlin 8 (Lancashire 351 v Derbyshire 374 all out)

Paul Coughlin finishes with 4-79 as Mo Abbas flashes hard at a full, widish delivery and Luke Wells snaffles the catch at gully.

Nothing much between the two sides at the halfway stage with Derbys leading by 23, but it has been a good performance with the bat from the visitors.

Harry Came's 83 was matched by Brooke Guest but there were decent contributions from Matt Montgomery and Martin Andersson.

For the hosts, Coughlin worked long and hard for his wicket haul and was unlucky not to bag a five-fer on debut for his new county.
