One thing about Weatherald is that once he's going, look out. England need to get one of these blokes out or they are going to keep steaming.

Travis Head pounces on deliveries when offered any sort of width. In Tests the since the start of 2022, he averages 55.2 at an exceptional strike rate of 131 with deliveries wide of off stump. England have hardly bowled any deliveries on tight lines and attacking Head's body.

The captain has to bowl. He's the player for England that so many times has produced some magic for them.

Australia's positive approach is working and England's attacking approach isn't.

Australia are rejoicing, they've fought back and put themselves in good position for victory.

    Six more for Travis Head!

He casually gets under Mark Wood's penultimate delivery and helps it on its way over the ropes at fine leg - his third boundary clearance of the innings.

He then closes the over by guiding the ball through backward point for four.

The stand-in opener moves to 49 from 35 balls.

Chris Smith: England need a miracle from here given how easily Australia are scoring runs and the threat from England’s attack looks non-existent. They had to win this match to have any chance in the series and the way key batters have played doesn’t look promising for the series.

Ryan: How deflating to see England squander such a brilliant opportunity, no matter how good the bowlers are they need runs to play with. No-one will ever convince me one three-day game against the Lions was enough preparation.

Sash_or_Chicane: Of all the times we've thrown away such strong positions playing absolutely brainless cricket, this surely has to be the worst. What on earth is it going to take to change our mentality?

    Target 205

A couple of singles and a wide off the rest of the over.

10 overs down and Australia are going at 5.8 runs an over - we've still got an hour and 45 minutes remaining, probably not enough to get all the way to their target, but you never know...

I felt this was England's best opportunity but these two are a dangerous pair. This has been a brilliant move by Australia. Travis Head is obviously an aggressor and he's come out and proved himself.

That's a pretty handy way to bring up your team's fifty.

Travis Head slams Brydon Carse over chasing fielder at deep third for his second six of the innings.

Jofra Archer's pace has dropped in the first spell this innings by almost three mph compared to his rapid first spell yesterday.

    First Innings - 90.3 mph.

    Second Innings - 87.6 mph.

Australia are controlling the game at the moment but you can never rule this England side out. They can do some pretty amazing things.

Head and Weatherald have taken a huge bite out of this total.

  14. Aus 47-0published at 9 overs

    All Australia all the moment.

It's changes at both ends for England as Mark Wood comes on to bowl.

Travis Head sends him into the covers for three, before Jake Weatherald guides the following ball through backward point for four.

It's been a very clever move from Australia to bring Travis Head up the order.

England are going to have to bring Ben Stokes in. He's the man to crack open the game for them.

  16. Aus 39-0published at 8 overs

Four more for Travis Head, lashing Brydon Carse through the covers.

11 runs come from Carse's first over.

Travis Head just guiding it over slip cordon for six. It does feel like the game has swung Australia's way at the moment.

Olly Moore: Travis Head opening up a great move. Great temperament and think Australia will knock these off with minimal fuss.

James Gulleford: While we’re used to England batting atrociously I suspected the Aussies wouldn’t do it twice in the same match. They could win this at a canter.

Si Lomas: Already feels ominous this, Jofra Archer not got the same zip as first innings. Time to get Brydon Carse on. All so avoidable this throwing away a winning position with reckless abandon again.

Jofra Archer has an exceptional record against left-handers in Tests. He's far more effective from over the wicket averaging 15.8 (17 wickets) compared to 24.8 (5 wickets) from round the wicket.
