Ben Duckett has been hit a few times today. He's got to be feeling a bit sore.

    Ouch.

Ben Duckett charges Scott Boland and is struck on his left elbow.

The physio is coming on - we've got one ball left in the over and are just five minutes from lunch.

Ben Duckett across his Test career has a very good record playing the cut and pull shot, scoring a high proportion of runs square on either side of the wicket.

In this Test though, he's scored only 24% runs square of the wicket - the lowest in a Test for the left-hander in his career. On average he has scored 63% runs square of the wicket in his Test career.

Pope and Duckett are capitalising on anything that's too full or too wide. That's what keeps the runs ticking over.

    Straight down the ground!

Ben Duckett drives Brendan Doggett for four - his third boundary, it takes him to 28.

The scoreboard keeps moving with England, pressure keeps building... Could the Aussies be out psyched by day two of the series?

This is much better from Boland. He was bowling far too full yesterday, couldn't find his rhythm. We've seen a much better display from him today though.

  9. Eng 54-1published at 13 overs

A tidy maiden from Scott Boland, bowling to Ollie Pope.

The seamer twice sends down deliveries that England's number three makes tentative pushes towards, with the ball just missing the edge.

  10. Eng 54-1published at 12 overs

Three more runs off Brendan Doggett's over.

No sign of Cameron Green yet - he was the one to dismiss Ollie Pope yesterday.

The scoreboard never stops ticking for England so Australia never have scoreboard pressure.

If we look at how Australia played yesterday, the scoreboard pressure built quite quickly because they couldn't keep the runs coming in.

  12. Eng 51-1published at 11 overs

Change of ends for Scott Boland as he replaces Mitchell Starc.

Ben Duckett runs his first ball into the leg side, bringing up England's fifty - the same total for the partnership too, of course, after Zak Crawley's early dismissal.

It's been sloppy from Australia with these overthrows.

  14. Eng 49-1published at 10 overs

    Wahey!

Overthrows from consecutive balls open Brendan Doggett's over, as Australia shy at the stumps.

Ben Duckett is able to add a second run after pushing into the covers, then Jake Weatherald's throw flies past the non-striker's end and heads to the ropes for five more runs.

Pope then gets three more in the covers.

  15. Eng 38-1published at 9 overs

Just a single off Mitchell Starc's over, with Ben Duckett taking a single past gully.

Ollie Pope then plays at misses at two deliveries, attempting drives.

Most ducks in Tests since Zak Crawley made his debut...

    1. Jasprit Bumrah - 23
    2. Mohammed Siraj - 15
    3. Khaled Ahmed - 13
    4. Zak Crawley, Tim Southee, Keshav Maharaj - 12

Crawley is the only recognized batter among all the players in this list.

  17. Eng 37-1published at 8 overs

A change of bowler as Brendan Doggett replaces Scott Boland.

Ollie Pope beats the scrambling Nathan Lyon in the covers and runs three, before Ben Duckett slams the ball through backward point for four.

Those now defending Crawley, whilst yes he may give you that one miracle innings to win you a game, his poor dismissals in between those moments may lose you 3-4 games. Is the trade off worth it?

  19. Eng 29-1published at 7 overs

    Oooh, almost a nick..

Mitchell Starc's delivery cuts past Ollie Pope's inside edge and carries through.

He gets off the strike via a leg bye and Ben Duckett picks up two past backward point.
