  1. Eng 67-2published at 17 overs

The Australians in the crowd sense a moment as Scott Boland runs into Joe Root, who is on pair, but manages to work one off his legs to get off the mark.

    And breathe...

Good bit of bowling from Scott Boland, just bounced on him a bit. He'll be thankful for that because he didn't have a great day yesterday, he was a little bit too full. He's pulled his length back and just finding the seam now.

Steve Smith was pretty adamant that he'd got that, it did look good.

    Duckett c Smith b Boland 28 (Eng 65-2)

Ben Duckett is trudging back to the pavilion before the third umpire completes the double check of whether it's carried.

Steve Smith has definitely got his fingers underneath the ball. It's clean, no doubt about that.

It was a good ball from Boland, who bowled a touch too full yesterday. He squares up the left-handed opener with a back-of-a-length delivery which draws an edge off the top of Duckett's bat.

  4. Umpire reviewpublished at 16.2 overs

Scott Boland, who was expensive and wicketless in the first innings, is given the second over after luncheon and he thinks he has got Ben Duckett with his second ball.

Duckett attempts to defend and edges to second slip where Steve Smith takes the catch.

Has it carried, though? The umpires want a look.

England just need to kick on a bit here, they need a few meaty partnerships.

  6. Eng 64-1published at 16 overs

Amid the chaos of day one, Ollie Pope played a very measured innings. He looked the one England player in true form having made a couple of decent scores in the one warm-up game.

Cameron Green's first ball is wide and Pope has an uncharacteristic swish at it causing a few hearts to flutter in the crowd.

A couple of balls later and Pope punishes a filthy shorter wide one from Green, waspishly cutting to the boundary for four.

Right, the players are back out on the field at the Perth Stadium.

Cameron Green will bowl the first over after lunch.

The Australian bowlers bowled well but without any luck. The way Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope went about it was good, they've toned it down from yesterday.

Australia will need some quick ones after the break but good Test match so far.

Since then it's been relatively steady for England with Ben Duckett unbeaten on 28 off 37 balls and Ollie Pope on 24 not out off 48 deliveries.

Jake Weatherald's fielding has helped as well.

England's second innings got off to unfortunate start as Zak Crawley bagged a pair following a brilliant diving caught-and-bowled effort from Mitchell Starc.

It certainly got Jim Maxwell buzzing on TMS.

With just one Australian wicket left to take this morning, England skipper Ben Stokes started with Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson to enable either of them to open their account having gone wicketless on day one.

England missed the chance to dismiss Brendan Doggett when Ollie Pope shelled a chance at short leg off Wood

Nathan Lyon and Doggett added 11 runs to Australia's total before the former was caught by Harry Brook in the cordon off Brydon Carse.

There was a bit of an injury scare to Joe Root during England's kick about this morning.

However, he was able to take the field and there's nothing to suggest he won't be able to bat.

Steve Bruce is a big cricket fan. He's over in Perth with his 88-year-old father-in-law.

He actually delayed taking the Sheffield Wednesday job in 2019 to watch England play in the West Indies.

    Not out

    That's pitching outside leg!

    Ben Duckett survives!

I'd be intrigued to see if that was going over the stumps, but the ball tracking stops once the outside leg call has been made.

Meanwhile that physio break and review has taken us to lunch.
