Mitchell Starc with 10 wickets in this Ashes Test. It's only the 25th instance an Australian has taken a 10-wicket haul in a home Ashes Test. The previous instance was by leg-spinner Stuart MacGill in Sydney (January 1999) and the last by a pace bowler was Craig McDermott at the Waca, 34 years ago in February 1991.

England had the opportunity to put this game to bed in the afternoon session. Instead they played brainless, high risk and low percentage shots. Australia haven’t kicked the door down, England left it wide open and Australia dutifully walked through.

You don't want to see the tailenders taking it on, swiping at everything when you've got an actual batter in Jamie Smith at the other end.

Gus Atkinson joins Jamie Smith in the fray. How do England approach this now? Bazball counterattack? Or dig in?

If you're Mitchell Starc, surely you're thinking that you just finish it now. England were in such a dominant position before lunch. England have got to try and stay out there for a while.

It's edged and caught, Ben Stokes is out! Stokes looks so disappointed. Ten wickets for Starc, he's had an incredible game. Steve Smith certainly wasn't dropping that.

Now we're into the bowlers, you've got to hope that they'll stick around.

    Stokes c Smith b Starc 2 (Eng 88-6)

The change of ends does the trick for Mitchell Starc as he bags the wicket of the England captain. 10 wickets in the match for the left-arm quick.

Ben Stokes attempts to defend a delivery that is fourth-stump line from Starc and the slighest hint of movement off the pitch takes the outside edge of the bat.

Stokes drags his heels on the way back to the dressing rooms.

Scott Boland has been very good today. Most of his deliveries have been in the same area whereas yesterday, there was a few short, a few too full, he couldn't find his rhythm. Today he's been much better.

  12. Eng 85-5published at 24 overs

A change of ends for Mitchell Starc, in fact, as he replaces Scott Boland.

Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith have got a storm to weather. They've got to absorb the pressure. We saw Australia in a similar situation yesterday but they just sat in their crease. They need to find a way to still pick up some runs.

Test cricket brings all the emotions!

  15. Eng 83-5published at 23.3 overs

Steve Smith decides to keep Mitchell Starc fresh and Brendan Doggett returns to the attack. England will not mind that after a bit of a sticky patch.

  18. Eng 83-5published at 23 overs

Ben Stokes looks pensive at the non-striker's end, starring thoughtfully down at the crease.

Scott Boland draws a play and miss from Jamie Smith with his third delivery. Gasps from the crowd.

A scrambled seamer from Boland later in the over jags in sharply and strikes Smith on the inner thigh.

Just cracked open a pack of cherry bakewells. As you do at 0530 in the morning. Butterfly effect and all that.

There's a real sense of anticipation as Mitchell Starc bounds in.

Ben Stokes flicks a full full delivery square off his pads for a single to get off the mark.
