    Hampshire 42-2 - require 348 to win

    Mark Church

He timed that very nicely indeed, just punched off that back foot. Nicely played by Ali Orr.

The weather is nice at the moment. Batting has always been easier with the sun out and the sun is now out.

Always looked that might be going down to Lehmann who just got stuck in the crease there. But nicely bowled by Jacks, he does give it a good rip.

Will Jacks is summoned by Rory Burns to send down some offspin, but don't expect a flurry of sixes this time.

Saying that Ali Orr punches through the covers off the back foot, scaring some more pigeons and picking up a boundary from his first ball to reach 23*.

He cuts a single from the second ball bringing Jake Lehmann onto strike and improving his Hampshire average in his 11th appearance and first of this season in the County Championship.

Big shout for lbw from the fourth ball but it looks to have just been sneaking down leg as Lehmann is pinned in his crease.

    Hampshire 37-2 - require 348 to win

Jordan Clark bowls to Jake Lehmann to start his second over and the Australian almost drags a low one on to off stump, only saved by the toe of his boot back in his crease.

A play and miss follows from the second delivery before a block towards point from the third and fourth and a duck out the way of a short fifth.

The last is deflected towards backward point and it's another maiden.

  4. 'A big innings for Orr'published at 14:50 BST 10 June

    Hampshire 37-2 - require 348 to win

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

This is a big innings for Ali Orr. It's his first game of the season. Hasn't quite worked out for him since he moved along the south coast a couple of seasons ago.

Only averages 23 in the 10 matches he'd played previously. Left out of the side at the start and with two or three batters in that top five not really justifying their place yet, he has a chance to really push his claim.

He's also looking to try and get in the Scotland side. He was selected for Scotland A earlier in the season against Jersey and got runs.

Lovely timing from Ali Orr to guide James Taylor off his hips to the square leg boundary for his second four.

The third follows from the next ball, a textbook cover drive which scatters a flock of pigeons to take him to 19* before showcasing some solid defence to see the over out.

Jordan Clark replaces Reece Topley at the Pavilion End for his first action of the day.

His first ball to Ali Orr rises up and comes off the glove but drops short of the slips. Bang on the money straight away.

The second ball is pushed into the covers for no run and the third to mid-wicket is another dot.

Orr Drives to long-off and runs three before the ball is returned to the keeper, good intent.

Jake Lehmann defends the penultimate ball via an inside edge onto his thigh then glances to backward point from the last, no run.

    Hampshire 26-2 - require 348 to win

    Kevin Howells
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Many people believe - and I'm one of them - that eight points is too much for a draw.

But if ever an eight points really was deserved, if Hampshire draw this game, they really will deserve their eight points. They really will.

This is a case in point where that eight points is probably fair.

Jake Lehmann works the first ball from James Taylor into the leg side to get off the mark with a couple.

The left-hander defends the next and then diverts the third straight into the shin of Dan Lawrence at forward short leg. I suppose that's a chance, but it was flying at him. Nobody could have reacted in time. Ouch.

This is going to test the batters this afternoon, isn't it? Where's that cloud?

There are some grey clouds above us but they don't look, for me, threatening enough.

Reece Topley is asking plenty of questions.

Only four scoring shots from his first 30 deliveries.

Ali Orr has a big swipe at the third ball but his attempted cut is too high as the ball keeps a little low.

The last ball spits up again but Orr does well to fend it off to the leg side, it might not have hit the bat, that might have been his midriff.

Four scoring shots from 36 Topley deliveries now after that maiden.

James Taylor replaces Matt Fisher for the 11th over.

We're not seeing much rain but will we see some fire? (Yes, I'm reusing that gag for a second day).

Ali Orr tickles the second ball off his pads and away to the fine leg boundary. it takes him to 7*.

The third is glanced wider to long leg for just a single before Jake Lehmann defends the last three balls.

Encouraged by what he saw two balls before that, my gosh that really has got up again hasn't it?

Wow, where has that one come from? Nothing he could do about that. That really was stunning stuff from Topley who has taken both of the wickets.

Gubbins, I think, has done well to get a glove on it.

If I was the next batter in, I'd be thinking "oh dear". That wasn't that short. It was certainly not a ball on a length you expect to get head high.

To get anything on that is amazing. Gubbins is trying to take evasive action at the same time as trying to ride the bounce.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:25 BST 10 June

    Gubbins c Pope b Topley 10 (Hampshire 19-2 - require 348 to win)

Reece Topley has given up three scoring shots in his first four overs and is back for a fifth.

Nick Gubbins watches the first ball safely past and defends the second on middle stump.

The third swings away late after nipping back a mile and bursts through the gloves of Ollie Pope diving to his right and away for four byes.

An inside edge to mid-wicket doesn't yield a run but THERE'S A WICKET FROM THE NEXT.

A shorter ball spits up and Gubbins rocks back but can only glove the ball through to Pope as he tries to contort out of the way from the rising delivery. It wasn't even that short. It comes off the hand as it left the bat by the look of it.

The stuff of nightmares for Jake Lehmann walking out there. He made 69 in the first dig, he might need a similar effort here to calm the nerves.

Matt Fisher beats the edge of Ali Orr's bat with his second ball of the new over. Peach of a ball which shapes back. Orr wanders off to contemplate the meaning of life for a moment.

He gets the bat down on the next couple, one into the leg side, the other into the off side as the rain begins to fall steadily... just not on the square as yet, it seems.

That shower is with 150 yards of the track. Surrey's luck might just be in you know...

    Fisher completes a maiden over.

You could argue that Dom Sibley is exactly what England need right now. A solid, considered player who can be a constant amongst the relative chaos. He has been the perfect foil for Dan Lawrence today.
