    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 333

Poor Delano Potgieter is stranded on 84*.

What a job he did though.

The game looked up for Hampshire avoiding the follow-on when he came in at 173-6 but in combination with Jake Lehmann (69), James Fuller (24 from 21) and Kyle Abbott (18) has totally changed the game.

They were 243-8, still 29 shy of the follow-on but have managed to reach 33, accruing their second and third batting points of the season and reduced the deficit to just 88.

16 overs remain in the day. How will Surrey approach this session?

Surrey's lack of wickets this season is a real cause for concern. Captain and Management have some questions to answer, too many winning positions are being thrown away.

    Henry, Kennington

Gus Atkinson, Dan Worrall and Sean Abbott would have played this week if they'd been fit and available, you'd expect.

He can't turn down a fourth-ball single to deep cover off the back foot to move to 84* though.

A no-ball inches Hampshire two runs closer to their target of 350 - 17 more required. 14 overs to get them.

    The deficit is 88.

    Brilliant stuff from the visitors.

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 320-9

Kyle Abbott picks up a single off James Taylor and then Delano Potgieter turns down another after a big inside edge on the drive.

Taylor bangs in a short one and it's struck the left glove of Potgieter, though the ball drops safely.

That's hurt him too. the glove comes off and Abbott comes over to have a look at his thumb before the physio comes out with some magic spray.

Predict Surrey to collapse before end of play, grind out the game tomorrow morning before rain intervenes. Mad swing in momentum thanks to some questionable bowling choices.

    Dan, Bradford

That's a bold prediction, Dan. It felt like the real jeopardy in the game was concentrated into those 10 minutes after tea.

James Taylor gets down on his knees to beg for an lbw against Delano Potgieter but is left looking to the heavens as his appeal is turned down.

The South African picks up a fourth ball single (again) to reach 77* before Kyle Abbott survives a challenging final two balls.

The deficit is 102. What a recovery this has been from Hampshire in sun-drenched Kennington.

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 318-9

Delano Potgieter almost topples over trying to carve the first ball from offy Will Jacks, with an eight-over old ball, away through the covers.

He eventually connects to pick up a fourth-ball single to return Kyle Abbott to strike.

Abbott turns down a single deep into the off-side from the penultimate ball and then gets off strike after defending and kicking away the final ball.

A seventh four, to go with two sixes, for Delano Potgieter off Matt Fisher, slashed through the covers, takes him into the 70s.

The eighth boundary comes at the end of the over with a tickle off his pads to the fine leg boundary.

Potgieter has 75* and these two have added 40 for the final wicket.

33 more needed for another batting point... just saying...

Why did Burns put on Will Jacks before Hants still needed 12 or so runs? One of the quickies would have made more sense

    Paul, St Albans

Have to say, Paul, this is what staggers me too. Clark, Fisher, Taylor, Topley all going for three-ish an over.

Five overs to the new ball. The entire game was on the line in that short period of time. I just don't get it. One for Rory Burns to answer after stumps you'd imagine.

Kyle Abbott has driven beautifully off the back foot, picking the gap between cover and point and sending the ball from Jordan Clark all the way to the rope for four. He's no mug with the bat.

He showcases that two balls later with a lovely back-foot cut to the fence at third.

Clark finishes with a full toss which Abbott guides to mid-on but he's had his fun and turns down the single.

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 293-9

Delano Potgieter cuts to the backward point boundary for another four off Matt Fisher and then clips off his hips for a quick two to keep strike and bring the second batting point within seven runs.

He's managed this situation very well indeed.

As he has done in the past two overs he picks up a fourth-ball single to bring Kyle Abbott back onto strike.

Abbott clips off his his hips to long leg. He wants a second but doesn't risk it.

Potgieter will need a single to stay on strike, but what's this? HE'S PULLED A SIX OVER FINE LEG.

    That's the second batting point.

Who cares if he's off strike for the next over.

This has been a sublime hour for Hampshire.

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 287-9

Jordan Clark back into the attack but Delano Potgieter picks his slower ball and bobbles it to cover from the fourth delivery for a single to move to 54*.

Kyle Abbott cracks the final ball well into the outfield but opts against the single again, though Surrey were jogging, imploring him to keep strike.

31 overs remain in the day. Not sure I'm having Surrey as favourites anymore, not after that James Fuller onslaught.

Surrey will have to bat again and then take 10 wickets to stand any chance.
