They need to be a little bit careful here, Surrey. They've been making life extremely difficult for Hampshire, quite clearly with six wickets down.

But once it gets over that trail by 200, they can't just let it drift towards 150.

It's such an important context and time in the game, it really is for this contest.

  5. 'These two need to bat through session for Hampshire'published at 15:26 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 202-6

Hampshire will certainly be hoping to avoid that follow-on but it is still some way away.

These two with a bit of a rebuild job to do. The partnership is at 29.

They need to bat through this session to get as close as they can to try and put Surrey back in again just to eat away at the time in this game.

Otherwise, if they follow-on, Hampshire are staring heavily at defeat because the conditions, the way Surrey have bowled, you really would have to put them firmly in the driving seat.

Now then, Will Jacks is going to have a bowl, replacing Tom Curran...

This will be interesting. Hampshire have looked stoic in the past hour so Rory Burns is rolling the dice.

There's that Lehmann sort of cross-batted shot out on the offside, which when it comes off is great.

But he's played and missed, without exaggerating, eight or nine times.

Lehmann follows another short ball again two balls later and again can't get willow on leather as Pope catches above his head.

The final ball produces a big celbrappeal from Curran who thinks Potgieter got an edge through to Pope but nothing doing, according to the umpire.

  20. Postpublished at 14:52 BST 9 June

Reece Topley replaces James Taylor, with the left-armer bowling to left-handed Delano Potgieter, who leaves the first delivery alone and then drives the next to the fielder at cover.

You can sense he wants to cut loose but he leaves the third ball alone before flicking a couple off his pads as Topley changes line to end the over. His second maiden.
