I don't want to tempt fate but I think we might be done for rain today.

Lehmann does well, in control of that one. Hasn't always been in control of one or two of those shots outside off stump that he plays with a cross bat, but that certainly was.

  3. Postpublished at 14:48 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 190-6

Runs... four of them, as Jake Lehmann cuts off the back foot past backward point for four runs as Tom Curran returns.

That's his ninth boundary and he's on to 57*.

He goes for another with an expansive cover drive but doesn't get all of it and deep cover gathers to restrict him to a single before Delano Potgieter clips to fine leg from the final ball to retain strike and move onto 9*.

  4. Postpublished at 14:44 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 184-6

Delano Potgieter leaves the first three balls from James Taylor alone outside off stump before dribbling the fourth and fifth to mid-off and it's another maiden over.

  5. Postpublished at 14:41 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 184-6

Jordan Clark is having a breather so Tom Curran is back into the attack at the Vauxhall End for the first time today, barring the first couple of balls.

Jake Lehmann defends the second ball back to him on the back foot and then punches along the ground to cover before defending the fourth delivery and another back-foot drive towards Dom Sibley for no run.

An attempted cut from the final ball is chopped into the ground and into the hands of second slip.

    Maiden over for Tom Curran.

87 runs to avoid the follow-on, 66 for a batting point. Four wickets in hand.

  6. Postpublished at 14:36 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 184-6

Jake Lehmann defends the first ball of James Taylor's over and opts against a risky single to point from the second.

The third is clipped off his hips for no run and the fourth is defended on the back-foot but he tries another uppercut to the fifth, failing to connect as Ollie Pope claims chest-high behind the stumps.

Lehmann moves to 53* with a single which will have him on strike for the next over, and we might have a change of bowling...

  7. 'All about avoiding follow-on for Hampshire'published at 14:34 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 183-6

    Roushan Alam
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Hampshire's equation now is all about avoiding the follow-on.

They need another 88 runs to make Surrey bat again, which would just eat into the game a little bit.

They've got four wickets, a lot of this will rely on Lehmann, won't it?

You have to feel Surrey are on top and will look to try and turn the screw and make Hampshire bat again.

  8. Postpublished at 14:32 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 183-6

Jordan Clark is back and so is the sun, it looks like that shower has slunk past to the south, which is good news if you like live cricket.

Delano Potgieter is content to leave the wide ones, as the Hampshire run-rate slips under 3.5 for the first time but digs out a full one from the penultimate delivery and ducks under a short ball to finish the over.

  9. Postpublished at 14:28 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 183-6

James Taylor returns around the wicket, bowling to Jake Lehmann and his third ball is guided to third with an open face for a single.

Delano Potgieter defends the fourth delivery and leaves the fifth alone before jabbing the last out to backward point for a single to retain strike.

  10. 'Clark closing in on 300 wickets'published at 14:27 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 181-6

    Kevan James

He [Jordan Clark] is closing in on 300 first class wickets. He's two shy now.

Playing his 79th first-class match for Surrey. Bowling wise, he averaged 34 at Lancashire for 78 wickets. He now has 220 first-class wickets here at Surrey, averaging 28.

  11. Postpublished at 14:24 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 181-6

Delano Potgieter clips off his pads to the fine leg boundary off Jordan Clark's first delivery.

Clark beats the outside edge with the next ball and Delano Potgieter drives and misses at the fourth.

The South African lefty manages to fend off the fifth which nips back at leg-stump and it looks like he's damaged his bat, so a new one is run out to him.

He uses it to clip away to long leg for a couple to end the over and can retreat to the non-striker's end.

  12. Postpublished at 14:20 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 175-6

Jake Lehmann gets off 50 with his first run in well over an hour, a dab to third for a single.

Delano Potgieter is back in the firing line, still looking pretty uncomfortable, but sees-off three balls and an inside edge to the final delivery brings him a single to mid-wicket to get him off the mark and keep him on strike.

  14. Postpublished at 14:17 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 173-6

The floodlights are back on and there's a small shower lurking on the radar to the south west of London... no bigger than about four Ovals, but problematic nonetheless if it heads this way.

Delano Potgieter is okay to continue after that bang on the inside of the elbow and James Taylor continues from the Pavilion End.

  16. Postpublished at 14:14 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 173-6

You feel that was a big wicket for the hosts and their hopes of batting bonus points and avoiding the follow-on would appear to rest firmly with Jake Lehmann, unbeaten on 50.

Delano Potgieter sees out the Jordan Clark over, though the final delivery spits up and lands a painful blow on his arm and he'll need a spot of treatment.

  17. 'Surrey picking up wickets in every mini-session'published at 14:13 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 173-6

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It's a nice bit of bowling from Jordan Clark and Ben Brown looking to let it go and then it's just nipped back and knocked his off stump out the ground.

So Surrey have their first one after lunch. What Surrey are doing quite well here, is that in the periods of play that we have, they're picking up a wicket.

If the rain does come now and this is a mini-session again, that will be the third mini-session in which they've picked up a wicket.

They are doing that bit of the job very well.

  18. 'Really good bowling from Clark'published at 14:12 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 173-6

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent commentator

Brown looks a little forlorn with that one. I guess with a couple bouncing outside off stump, he's been looking to leave the ball.

Always looked a bit tight to leave that. That's come back in actually. That's a really good piece of bowling there from Jordan Clark.

Shaped a couple away as he generally does and then he does have that ability to get the ball to come back and that's exactly what's happened there.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:09 BST 9 June

    Brown b Clark 7 (Surrey 421 v Hampshire 173-6)

    Off-stump out of the ground...

Jordan Clark has angled the last couple away but this one straightens up a lot and Ben Brown can only look on aghast as he shoulders arms and it clatters the top of off.

A good ball but not a good leave.

A third wicket for Clark and Delano Potgieter comes to the crease.

For lunch options there are many places within the Oval ground offering hot and cold food at all times…and all at incredibly inflated prices.

So perhaps the players need to carry their loose change in their trouser pockets to speed things up then? Actually that might be a bad look, and it's cashless now anyway.

Keep the lunch break or no lunch break on a rain-interrupted day theories coming...
